    The road to another Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Philippines championship begins August 21, with MPL Philippines Season 18 bringing together eight teams and a familiar rivalry that could immediately set the tone for the new campaign.

     

    The opening week at Victoria Sports Tower will waste little time delivering a blockbuster.

     

    Defending champion Team Liquid PH will begin its title defense against Team Falcons PH, giving fans an early replay of last season’s grand finals. But while TLPH enters the season with continuity, Falcons comes in carrying the memory of a painful 4-2 defeat that denied them the championship.

     

    For Team Liquid, the mission is bigger than simply defending the crown, the Cavalry is chasing a historic four-peat while keeping its championship core intact. Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno remains at the forefront, alongside exp laner Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya, midlaner Alston “Sanji” Pabico, roamer Jaypee “Jaypee” Gonzales, and jungler Dave “Teddyqt” Viaña.



    That stability could be crucial after the champions endured an unusually difficult international campaign. Team Liquid PH went winless and suffered an early exit from the Mid-Season Cup in Paris, leaving the squad with something to prove when the domestic season resumes.

     

    Falcons, meanwhile, will try to turn last season’s heartbreak into motivation as the team finished the MPL PH Season 17 regular season with an impressive 12-2 record, earning the second seed before making its way to the grand Finals. Their Finals appearance also secured a place at MSC 2026, where they joined the Philippine representatives in Paris.

     

    Now, their first assignment is the team that stood between them and the title.

     

    Before that Finals rematch takes center stage, however, the season will officially get underway with ONIC Philippines taking on Aurora PH in the opening match on August 21.

     

    That matchup also introduces one of the biggest changes of the offseason as ONIC has handed the head-coaching reins to multi-titled midlaner Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, who makes the transition from player to coach after a short stint with EVOS in MPL Indonesia.

    Pheww brings a decorated rĂ©sumĂ© to the position. He previously helped AP.Bren capture multiple championships before moving under the Team Falcons banner, and he will now attempt to guide ONIC’s King “K1NGKONG” Perez, Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez, Jann “Kirk” Guttierez, import Clayton “Saver” Kuswanto, and Czedrick “Super Yoshi” Romero.

     

    The arrival of Super Yoshi is another notable adjustment to the lineup. He has taken over a starting role from veteran roamer Borris “Brusko” Parro, who will begin the season on the bench.

     

    With familiar champions, a revenge-minded finalist and a new coaching era all packed into the opening week, Season 18 already has plenty of storylines before the first major battles unfold.

     

    Omega Esports, TNC Pro Team, AP Bren and Twisted Minds PH will also see action during the first week, ensuring all eight teams get their campaigns underway early.

     

    The regular-season schedule will feature seven matches per week: two on Friday, three on Saturday and two on Sunday.

     

    There is also a scheduling adjustment later in the campaign. Week 8 will begin on Thursday, October 8, 2026, but there will be no matches scheduled for Saturday, October 10.

     

    For MPL PH, the new season is not simply another title race. It is a chance for Team Liquid to continue its reign, for Falcons to rewrite the ending of their previous campaign, and for contenders like ONIC to see whether major changes can quickly translate into results.

    For a span of seven years, Edward Jay “Edward” Dapadap helped define what it meant to be an elite Filipino Mobile Legends: Bang Bang player.

     

    Now, one of Philippine esports’ most decorated careers has reached its final chapter as Edward announced his retirement from professional MLBB on Tuesday, with Aurora Gaming confirming the veteran exp laner’s departure from competitive play after a career filled with domestic championships, international glory, and individual recognition.

     

    “Some careers end on stage. Others live on through the moments they leave behind. Edward, thank you for making Aurora Gaming your final chapter as a pro MLBB player. Your consistency helped shape the scene better. We’re proud to have shared your final ride with us,” Aurora Gaming said on their social media post.


    The timing of his retirement brings an end to a journey that began far from the bright lights of the MPL Philippines stage.

     

    From student hobby to esports history, Edward first encountered MLBB as a student, initially treating the game as a hobby before his performances in amateur tournaments began attracting attention from established players.

     

    At only 15, he made the bold move to travel alone to Manila in search of opportunities in the growing professional scene.

     

    It eventually led him to Blacklist International, where he became one of the key figures in one of Philippine MLBB’s most successful runs.

     

    With Blacklist, Edward captured MPL Philippines Season 7, Season 8, and Season 10, adding the M3 World Championship in 2021 to his résumé.

     

    But his career did not stop with Blacklist as Edward later joined Aurora Gaming, where he added another world championship to his collection by helping the team conquer the M7 World Championship.

    The victory placed him in an exclusive group of players to have won the MLBB World Championship twice.

     

    The 21-year-old became the fourth player to accomplish the feat, joining jungler Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, David “FlapTzy” Canon, and Angelo “Phewww” Arcangel.

     

    For all the championships attached to his name, Edward’s influence on the local scene was not measured solely by medals and titles.

    “This is Edward signing off. Thank you for being part of the best years of my life. Maybe this is the last time na makikita niyo akong wearing a pro jersey. Pero sa lahat ng support niyo, I will carry it with me forever,” said Edward.

     

    From a 15-year-old making the trip to Manila to a player lifting world championship trophies on the international stage, Edward’s seven-year career became part of the story of Philippine MLBB itself.

    Despite entering the tournament with high expectations, Blacklist International, Boom Esports, and Titan Esports Club struggled to overcome the world’s best Honor of Kings teams, ending their title hopes during the group stage.

     

    Among the three representatives, Blacklist International delivered the deepest run and carried the country’s final hopes the longest.

     

    Seeded in Group A, Blacklist started its main stage campaign on a strong note, sweeping Brazilian squad MIBR.LOS, 2-0, to secure a spot in the upper bracket. 

     

    However, the road became tougher as the Filipinos faced defending world champion AG.AL, which handed Blacklist a 0-2 loss and forced them into the lower bracket.

     

    With elimination looming, Blacklist fought to keep its tournament alive against Team Vitality in the lower bracket final. The Filipino squad pushed the series to a deciding game but could not complete the comeback, falling 1-2 and ending the country’s last remaining chance of reaching the playoffs.

     

    Blacklist’s exit marked the end of the longest KWC 2026 run among Philippine representatives, but it also highlighted the team’s resilience after entering the tournament through the play-in stage and recording the country’s best performance heading into the event.

    The victory secured a podium finish for the Indonesian squad and ensured that Filipino representation remained alive in the tournament despite the struggles of the country’s own teams.

     

    For Kelra and Kairi, however, the medal came with a familiar sacrifice: succeeding overseas while being separated from the people who matter most.

     

    In his first season with ONIC Indonesia, Kelra admitted that the hardest part of playing abroad is being away from his partner, Yang, and their son, Slake. While competing at the Esports World Cup (EWC), he said his schedule leaves little time for family conversations.

     

    “Malungkot para sa akin, pero kailangan eh. Nakakausap ko naman sila kapag may free time ako, pero ngayong nasa EWC ako madalang kasi focus muna ako dito.”

     

    Kelra made sure the sacrifice translated into results. He dominated Game 1 with Granger, posting an impressive 9/0/4 KDA to give ONIC Indonesia an early edge in the series before the team completed the sweep.

    This year, however, the tournament unfolded differently for the Philippine representatives. Defending champions Team Liquid PH were knocked out early in the knockout stage, while Team Falcons PH battled their way into the race for third place but were ultimately swept by an ONIC Indonesia squad anchored by two Filipino imports.

     

    Although Philippine teams were unable to repeat their dominance from the previous edition, Filipino players still left their mark on the international stage. 

     

    Through Kelra and Kairi, the country’s presence was still felt on the podium, serving as another reminder that Filipino talent continues to thrive—even when success comes while wearing another nation’s jersey.

    It marks the first time since 2019 that no Philippine team finished on the tournament podium. The Filipinos came within one game of reaching the grand finals after pushing Myanmar’s Yangon Galacticos to a winner-take-all Game 5 in the semifinals.

     

    The defeat denied the Philippines another appearance in the MSC Grand Finals and simultaneously sent Yangon Galacticos to its first international championship match since the M2 World Championship in 2021.

     

    Team Falcons PH still had one more opportunity to leave Paris with a medal, but Indonesia’s ONIC ID proved too much to handle. 

     

    The Indonesians completed a convincing 3-0 sweep in the battle for third place, leaving the Filipino squad to settle for fourth overall.

     

    While the result fell short of the country’s lofty standards, Team Falcons PH remained one of the tournament’s strongest teams after surviving a highly competitive field just to reach the final weekend of the MSC.

Defending MSC champions Team Liquid Philippines and 2024 champions Selangor Red Giants were both eliminated in the group stage, while emerging regions continued to challenge the traditional powerhouses throughout the tournament.

     

    For the Philippines, the fourth-place finish also snapped a remarkable streak of grand final appearances. After the last all-Indonesian MSC final in 2019, Filipino teams reached every championship series—Execration and Blacklist International contested an all-PH final in 2021, RSG Philippines won the title in 2022, Blacklist International finished runner-up to ONIC Esports in 2023, and Team Falcons PH claimed second place behind Selangor Red Giants in 2024.

     

    Although this year’s campaign ended without a medal, Team Falcons PH once again proved it belonged among the world’s elite. 

     

    Reaching the tournament’s final four in an increasingly competitive international field showed that while the Philippines may have relinquished its place atop the podium this time, it remains one of Mobile Legends’ premier regions heading into the next global championship.

    Veteran midlaner Salic “Hadji” Imam dictated the pace early, showcasing his trademark Selena in the opening two games to help Team Falcons seize control of the series. 

     

    But Team Vitality refused to fold, riding Dylont “Shogun” Huraihira’s disruptive Barats and Filipino import Eman “EMANN” Sangco’s Paquito to steal Game 2 and even the series at one game apiece.

     

    Game 3 became the turning point as Shogun’s Barats once again wreaked havoc, pulling off a Flicker-Detona’s Welcome combo that caught Team Falcons jungler Michael “Kyle” Sayson on his Fanny in the 11th minute. Instead of unraveling, Falcons responded with discipline.

    Kyle emerged as the Star of the Day after stuffing the stat sheet with 16 kills, a 4.14 KDA, and an impressive 54.41 percent Kill Participation, providing the steady presence Team Falcons needed throughout the series.

     

    More importantly, the victory erased the sting of their earlier defeat to Team Vitality. After surviving the lower bracket, Team Falcons completed its redemption arc by eliminating the same squad that had previously knocked them down, extending the Philippines’ hopes of another international MLBB title.

     

    The victory also booked Team Falcons PH a semifinal showdown against Myanmar’s Yangon Galacticos, who advanced after defeating Cambodia’s PRO Esports in the other quarterfinal.

    Waiting for the Philippine representatives is familiar rival Team Vitality, the Indonesian champion that previously sent Falcons PH to the lower bracket. This time, however, the stakes are higher as Falcons PH looks to turn a painful early defeat into a statement comeback.

     

    The rematch is set for Wednesday, July 29, at 8:30 PM, where Team Falcons PH will attempt to rewrite the outcome of their first encounter and continue their push toward the MSC 2026 championship.

     

    Falcons PH entered their first meeting with Team Vitality carrying confidence after sweeping Guangzhou Gaming in their opening match. However, the Indonesian squad quickly changed the direction of the series after surviving a tense Game 1 battle and stealing momentum through a crucial late-game turnaround.

     

    The turning point came during an extended second Lord clash when Team Vitality picked off four Falcons PH heroes, allowing the Indonesians to seize control of the map. Although the Filipinos managed to withstand the initial Lord pressure, Vitality kept applying pressure.

     

    Jungler Manuel “Nnael” Simbolon delivered the decisive plays, securing the third Lord through a clutch Retribution against Hirara before exploding for a triple kill in the following team fight. With Falcons PH unable to mount a defense, Team Vitality completed the comeback and took Game 1.
