    The transition period for Alas Pilipinas continues, and Angel Canino is ready to help lead it.

     

    With the Philippine women’s national volleyball team entering a new era ahead of the 2026 Asian Games, the De La Salle standout has once again answered the call to represent the country, joining the national training pool assembled under newly appointed head coach Taka Minowa.

     

    For Canino, another invitation to wear the Philippine jersey carries the same meaning it always has—not just as recognition of her growth, but as an opportunity to contribute to something bigger than herself.

     

    “I’m very grateful talaga na napili ulit ako for the Asian Games,” Canino told reporters. “It’s really an honor for an athlete na ipatawag ka for the national team.”

     

    The latest pool signals the beginning of the Philippines’ buildup for the continental showcase, with the Philippine Olympic Committee temporarily taking charge of the national program following the suspension of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.

     

    Despite the changes surrounding the program, Canino remains focused on the common objective.

     

    “For me talaga, gusto ko talagang i-represent ang Philippines. ‘Yun talaga ang goal ko ever since I started very young,” she said.

     

    “And now, it’s still in the process, and hopefully talaga mag-connect at mag-in line ang bawat isa kasi we’re praying for it.”

    With a new coaching staff, returning veterans, and young collegiate stars coming together, she emphasized the importance of unity as Alas Pilipinas begins another international campaign.

     

    “Hopefully, lahat ng support, lahat ng pagmamahal ng bansa, pagmamahal ng mga tao, pagmamahal ng atleta, mapupunta doon sa magandang pamamaraan,” she said.

     

    The two-time UAAP champion also paid tribute to every athlete who has accepted the responsibility of representing the Philippines, acknowledging that national team duty demands sacrifice and collective commitment.

     

    “Thankful ako at grateful kami sa mga nagre-represent ng Pilipinas kasi it’s always an honor talaga to represent the Philippines,” she said.

     

    “But of course, kailangan talaga at some point we have to be in connection with one another and in line with one another.”

     

    Canino last suited up for Alas Pilipinas during the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, where the Filipinas finished fourth. She is now expected to reunite with several key members of the national team, including veteran setter Jia De Guzman, fellow collegiate stars Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon, and other top PVL standouts as preparations intensify for the Asian Games in Japan.

    After rewriting the record books in UAAP Season 88, De La Salle University head coach Ramil De Jesus believes the biggest boost heading into the next chapter came not from a new recruit, but from his veteran players choosing to stay.


    The decorated Lady Spikers mentor expressed his appreciation after Shevana Laput, Angel Canino, Amie Provido, and Lyka De Leon decided to return for UAAP Season 89, giving La Salle the continuity and leadership it needs as it tries to defend its throne.

     

    The decision carries extra weight after the Lady Spikers produced one of the most dominant campaigns in league history last season. La Salle went unbeaten through all 16 assignments, eventually completing its championship run by sweeping defending champions National University in the Finals.

     

    For De Jesus, seeing his seniors prioritize the team over turning professional immediately was a meaningful reward.

     

    “Ayun ‘yung pinakaswerteng natanggap ko na regalo ng mga seniors ko, na nag-stay sila for the team, and hindi kaagad nagmadaling mag-pro,” Ramil said.

     

    However, the veteran coach understands that repeating a perfect season will be a much bigger challenge. With La Salle now carrying the target on its back, De Jesus knows every opponent will enter games against the Lady Spikers with extra motivation.

     

    “‘Yung bawat games naman dumadaan eh, so kung ano ‘yung kahinatnan ng games, kung kulang ‘yung preparation mo, eh maghabol ka. Pero kung nandoon ka sa itaas, edi ikaw ‘yung habulin. Ganon kasimple,” he said.

    Despite the pressure that comes with success, De Jesus remains committed to the sport and the program that he has built over the years.

     

    “Sa akin kasi, siguro, ‘yung passion kasi hindi nawawala ‘yun eh. Hanggang siguro binibigyan ako ng pagkakataon, ng chance, at mayroong naniniwala sa akin so tuloy tuloy lang siguro ‘yun.”

     

    Aside from their impact on La Salle, the returning seniors are also earning recognition on the national stage. De Jesus welcomed the inclusion of Canino and Provido in the Alas Pilipinas women’s volleyball training pool that will prepare for the 20th Asian Games in Japan this coming September. Finals MVP Laput is also part of the group.

     

    The veteran mentor believes their selection reflects the quality and potential they have shown.

    “Deserving sila, nakita nila ‘yong potentials ng mga bata, nakita nila talagang makakatulong (sa team),” veteran coach said.

     

    Canino and Provido were among the country’s top hitters named to the Philippine Olympic Committee-released training pool. They join national team standouts including captain Jia De Guzman, Belen, Eya Laure, Fifi Sharma, Shai Nitura, Alyssa Solomon, Vanie Gandler, and Erika Santos under new head coach Taka Minowa.

    Instead of easing into the 2026 AVC Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship, the Filipinas will immediately measure themselves against some of Asia’s most established youth volleyball programs, opening their campaign in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand with consecutive matches against regional heavyweights.

     

    The Philippines starts its Pool C campaign against reigning 2025 Asian Youth U19 champion Iran on Wednesday before facing perennial powerhouse Japan the following day. Indonesia completes the Filipinas’ group-stage schedule on Friday.

     

    While the draw leaves little room for error, head coach Karl Dimaculangan sees the tournament as more than just a race for results. For the national mentor, it is another opportunity for a young core to continue growing on one of the biggest stages in Asian volleyball.

     

    “We have talented players, they just need to improve their level of play,” said Dimaculangan, who will be joined on the coaching staff by Keenan Quitco and Marco Maclang.

     

    Leading the charge is Xyz Rayco, one of the country’s brightest youth prospects after helping steer the Philippines to a historic qualification for the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship in Santiago, Chile last year.

    PLDT High Speed Hitters are taking a measured approach to the offseason as they prepare for the upcoming Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason conference, with recovery and regeneration taking center stage following a breakthrough campaign in the recently concluded All-Filipino Conference.

     

    Fresh off securing the franchise’s first-ever podium finish in a regular PVL conference with a bronze-medal performance, the High Speed Hitters have temporarily shifted their focus away from the court. Instead of immediately diving back into intense training, the team is emphasizing physical recovery, mental rejuvenation, and personal time before resuming preparations for another challenging season.

     

    Head coach Ralf Ricafort stressed that allowing the players adequate time to rest is a crucial part of the team’s long-term development, especially after months of rigorous training and competition.

    “We highly prioritise the balance between the work that we put in since the preseason and the rest needed after every conference. I might try streaming One Piece on Netflix,” Ricafort said in a media interaction.

     

    Ricafort believes that proper recovery is just as important as the work done inside the gym, noting that giving players the opportunity to recharge physically and mentally helps sustain performance over the course of a demanding volleyball calendar.

     

    For veteran setter Kim Fajardo, the offseason serves as more than just a break from volleyball. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the previous conference, assess individual growth, and prepare mentally for the next challenge.

     

    “It’s a time for self-realization,” Fajardo said.

    Outside hitter Kiesha Bedonia echoed the importance of taking care of the body after an exhausting campaign, emphasizing that recovery does not necessarily mean complete inactivity.

    “We need to prioritize sleep, do light movements like walking and stretching,” Bedonia added.

     

    The emphasis on recovery reflects a growing understanding among professional athletes that quality rest is essential in maintaining peak performance, preventing injuries, and extending longevity throughout a lengthy season.

     

    For opposite hitter Jessey De Leon, stepping away from volleyball also means reconnecting with another passion. A licensed architect, De Leon finds balance by immersing herself in creative projects whenever she has the opportunity.

     

    “I really enjoy doing creative work whenever I feel inspired – it helps me reset and feel like myself again outside of the sport,” De Leon said.

     

    While the players enjoy a well-earned break, PLDT’s management has remained active in strengthening the roster ahead of the preseason tournament and the upcoming PVL season.

     

    The High Speed Hitters bolstered their offensive depth by bringing in experienced opposite spiker Jessa Ordiales while also investing in young talent through the 2026 PVL Rookie Draft. The club selected former University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) standout Fianne Ariola with the eighth overall pick, adding another promising attacker to an already competitive lineup.

     

    PLDT also addressed additional areas of its roster by acquiring former Galeries Tower Highrisers standout Winnie Bedana and outside hitter Joan Monares, moves that provide the coaching staff with added versatility and depth heading into the preseason.

     

    The offseason additions reflect the organization’s determination to build on the momentum generated by its historic bronze-medal finish. After finally breaking through for a podium finish in a regular PVL conference, the High Speed Hitters are looking to transform that success into sustained contention.

     

    With a healthier, deeper roster and an offseason centered on recovery before returning to competition, PLDT hopes to enter the PVL On Tour preseason conference refreshed, recharged, and ready to continue its upward trajectory.

    Angel Canino barely had time to celebrate one of the greatest collegiate seasons in recent memory before another opportunity arrived.

     

    Fresh off leading De La Salle University to a flawless UAAP championship campaign and being recognized as the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year, the Lady Spikers star is once again preparing to wear the Philippine colors after earning another invitation to Alas Pilipinas.

     

    For Canino, the recognition is rewarding, but the focus has already shifted toward the bigger mission waiting later this year—the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

     

    Speaking after receiving her Collegiate Press Corps (CPC) Player of the Year award at Discovery Suites, the reigning collegiate star said every call-up to the national team remains something she never takes for granted.

     

    “Of course, I’m very grateful. I feel incredibly blessed that when the lineup was announced, I was included. But of course, we’re still in the process of preparing,” said Canino in Filipino.

     

    “So hopefully, everything leading up to the Asian Games will fall into place. I hope everything aligns well, and I also hope we can all continue to support one another even more.”

     

    The latest invitation marks another chapter in Canino’s growing international résumé after suiting up for Alas Pilipinas during last December’s Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, where the Filipinas finished fourth.

     

    Her return to the national team comes after a collegiate campaign that elevated her status as one of Philippine volleyball’s brightest stars.

     

    Canino was among the driving forces behind La Salle’s perfect 16-0 championship run in UAAP Season 88, helping the Lady Spikers reclaim the title despite the early-season absence of Finals MVP Shevana Laput.

    She also delivered when the stakes were highest.

     

    In the championship opener against National University, Canino powered La Salle with 17 points, nine digs, and five excellent receptions before following it up with another all-around performance of 11 points, 10 digs, and 10 receptions in Game 2 as the Lady Spikers completed a straight-set sweep of the defending champions.

     

    Those performances earned her the Collegiate Press Corps’ UAAP Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year recognition.

     

    Joining Canino among this year’s volleyball awardees are National University’s Leo Ordiales as the UAAP Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year, Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Lara Silva as the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year, and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Reymark Betco as the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year.

     

    The four standouts will be honored during the 2026 Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night presented by Strong Group Athletics.

     

    While another individual award now sits beside her growing collection, Canino’s attention is already on the next challenge.

     

    This time, the goal extends beyond collegiate glory as she hopes to help Alas Pilipinas compete against Asia’s best on one of the continent’s biggest sporting stages.

    Jia de Guzman headlines the 22-player training pool for Alas Pilipinas Women, signaling the start of a rebuilding process under new leadership as the team shifts its focus toward the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

     

    The national squad enters a new chapter with Japanese coach Taka Minowa taking over the program while the Philippine Olympic Committee temporarily oversees national team operations following the suspension of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF).

     

    Rather than building from scratch, the new coaching staff is leaning on the players who helped establish Alas Pilipinas as one of Southeast Asia’s rising programs over the past few years.

     

    De Guzman, who skipped the team’s most recent campaign in Candon City, returns to lead a roster that blends experienced veterans with the country’s brightest young stars.

     

    Joining the longtime national team setter are Justine Jazareno, Jen Nierva, Bella Belen, Eya Laure, Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura, Fifi Sharma, Vanie Gandler, Alleiah Malaluan, Amie Provido, Dawn Catindig, Dell Palomata, and Mars Alba.

     

    Also receiving invitations are Alyssa Solomon, Thea Gagate, Niña Ytang, veteran middle blocker Pangs Panaga, Erika Santos, Gel Cayuna, Arah Panique, and Shaira Jardio.

     

    Many of these players formed the backbone of the Alas squad that captured a historic silver medal in last year’s AVC Women’s Challenge Cup, one of the country’s biggest achievements in recent international volleyball.

     

    This year’s campaign, however, proved far more difficult. A younger and retooled Philippine squad, led by Alyssa Valdez, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Ces Molina, and Ara Galang, failed to reach the semifinals and ultimately settled for eighth place.

     

    The transition comes during a turbulent period for Philippine volleyball.

     

    Sources told that the suspended PNVF has invited De Guzman, Valdez, and Gonzaga to serve on the federation’s Athletes’ Commission, a requirement imposed by the FIVB ad hoc committee as part of efforts to resolve the federation’s ongoing issues.

    Meanwhile, Minowa officially steps into the program after previously working with Philippine volleyball.

     

    The Japanese mentor, who coached Akari in the Premier Volleyball League and handled the Alas women’s squad in 2024, recently served as an assistant coach for Japan SV.League club Aisin Tealmare Hekinan. He also shares a close connection to Philippine volleyball as the husband of former national team standout Jaja Santiago.

     

    On the men’s side, continuity remains the priority.

     

    Italian mentor Angiolino Frigoni will continue steering Alas Pilipinas Men into the Asian Games, hoping to maximize a talented core highlighted by Japan SV.League champion Bryan Bagunas, Taiwan league winner Marck Espejo, and reigning Spikers’ Turf MVP Jude Garcia.

     

    Also included in the men’s pool are Owa Retamar, Leo Ordiales, Buds Buddin, Lloyd Josafat, Al Bukharie Sali, Louie Taguibolos, Josh Ybañez, Adrian Villados, Vince Lorenzo, Kristofer Rodge Alejos, and Trevor Valera.

     

    Frigoni remains one of the most successful coaches in the program’s recent history, having guided the Philippines to a historic appearance in the FIVB Men’s World Championship and a bronze medal finish in last year’s Southeast Asian Games.

     

    As preparations begin for Aichi-Nagoya, both national teams now face the challenge of building momentum despite the uncertainty surrounding Philippine volleyball’s governing body, with experienced leaders once again expected to provide stability when it matters most.

    The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has officially begun its oversight of the country’s national volleyball program, unveiling a new coaching setup and the preliminary player pools that will carry the Philippines into the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.


    In its first major volleyball decision following the suspension of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), the POC appointed Japanese coach Takayuki “Taka” Minowa to lead the Alas Pilipinas women’s team while retaining Italian mentor Angiolino Frigoni at the helm of the men’s squad.

     

    The appointments, announced alongside the national team pools on Sunday, June 28, set the stage for the country’s Asian Games campaign scheduled from September 19 to October 4.

     

    The former head coach of Akari, Minowa inherits a program that has steadily regained its footing over the past two years, and the POC has opted for continuity by bringing back many of the players who fueled that resurgence.

     

    Leading the 22-player women’s pool is team captain Jia De Guzman, who returns after missing the recent AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup in Candon City.

     

    Also rejoining the national team are Bella Belen, Eya Laure, Angel Canino, Vanie Gandler, Fifi Sharma, Justine Jazareno, Alleiah Malaluan, Amie Priovido, Arah Panique, Dawn Catindig, Dell Palomata, Mars Alba, and Shaina Nitura.

     

    Only Thea Gagate, Alyssa Solomon, and Nina Ytang remain from the hastily assembled Alas Pilipinas squad that represented the country in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup just weeks ago.

    Completing the women’s pool are Jeanette Panaga, Shaira Jardio, Gel Cayuna, and Erika Santos, giving Minowa a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents as preparations begin.

    Frigoni will continue to call the shots after guiding the Philippines through last year’s FIVB Men’s World Championship, with much of that core expected to stay intact for the Asian Games.

    According to POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, POC secretary-general Atty. Wharton has already informed both Minowa and Frigoni of their appointments, which will officially run from July 1 until October 15.

     

    The simultaneous announcement reflects the POC’s approach as it takes over the national volleyball program—maintaining continuity where it matters while introducing new leadership on the women’s side.

     

    With the Asian Games less than three months away, the focus now shifts from assembling the roster to building chemistry, as both Alas Pilipinas teams prepare to test themselves against Asia’s best under the POC’s new direction.

    Although the Solar Spikers were unable to pull off an upset against the powerhouse Dominican side, the exhibition served as an important measuring stick for a Capital1 team that has undergone significant changes during the offseason. Facing a team with extensive international experience gave the Solar Spikers an opportunity to evaluate their progress while exposing areas that still need improvement before the new PVL season begins.

     

    The Dominican Republic arrived in the Philippines as part of its campaign in Week 2 of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) held in Pasig City. Ranked among the world’s strongest women’s volleyball programs, the Caribbean nation showcased its class against Capital1, highlighting the gap between an established international team and a club still working to integrate several new players into its lineup.

    Despite the result, Capital1 head coach Jorge Souza de Brito viewed the match as an invaluable learning experience for his squad.

     

    “As a first friendly match, it was very good. Even without having all the key players on the court at the same time, the system proved to be viable, even against the strong Dominican team. There is no comparison between the level of the teams, but learning how to handle the fundamentals in critical situations may have been the greatest lesson from the game. We will have moments like these in the competitions ahead,” De Brito said in a media interaction.

     

    The Brazilian mentor emphasized that the match was never solely about the final score. Instead, it provided his players with a rare opportunity to compete against elite international talent while testing the team’s execution under pressure. The organization made a series of headline-grabbing acquisitions aimed at surrounding rising star Bella Belen with experienced talent capable of elevating the team’s competitiveness.

     

    Among the biggest additions were former Cignal HD Spikers standouts and Most Valuable Player tandem Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos, both expected to provide scoring firepower and veteran leadership. The Solar Spikers also strengthened their playmaking department by signing veteran setter Jaja Maraguinot in free agency, adding another experienced floor general capable of orchestrating the team’s offense.

     

    The roster overhaul continued during the PVL Rookie Draft, where Capital1 selected University of Santo Tomas captain and two-time University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Best Libero Detdet Pepito with the second overall pick. Widely regarded as one of the country’s top defensive specialists at the collegiate level, Pepito is expected to make an immediate impact in the back row. The club also added University of the East standout Khy Cepada, further boosting the team’s youthful depth.

     

    With an impressive collection of talent now assembled, many observers believe the Solar Spikers have significantly raised their ceiling entering the new campaign. However, De Brito cautioned that talent alone does not automatically translate into victories, stressing that the team’s long-term success will ultimately depend on chemistry and cohesion.

     

    “We are on the right path, and with the support of these new players, Capital1 continues its journey of growth and development. Without a doubt, the quality of the players naturally leads people to expect exponential growth, but performance depends on the chemistry we are building, and of course, on the ups and downs that every new group experiences. Our goal is to exceed expectations through hard work and by doing things the right way for our team,” he added.

     

    As one of the most respected coaches in Philippine volleyball, De Brito understands that integrating multiple new players into a single system requires patience. Building communication, trust, and familiarity on the court often takes weeks or even months, particularly with several key newcomers expected to play major roles immediately.

     

    Fortunately for Capital1, there is still valuable preparation time before meaningful games begin. Training sessions and additional practice matches will give the coaching staff more opportunities to experiment with different combinations while allowing the team’s new acquisitions to further develop their understanding of De Brito’s system.

     

    The Solar Spikers will officially begin their PVL On Tour campaign on Saturday, July 25, when they face the Nxled Chameleons in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. By then, Capital1 hopes the lessons learned from competing against one of the world’s premier volleyball nations will translate into stronger performances as the club looks to establish itself as a legitimate contender in the upcoming conference.

    For some stars, it’s about proving they can carry a franchise. For others, it’s about silencing critics, thriving in a new environment, or showing they still belong among the league’s elite.

     

    Here are five players with the most to prove when the PVL On Tour tips off.

     

    1. Bella Belen (Capital1 Solar Spikers)

     

    Bella Belen enters the PVL On Tour carrying perhaps the biggest expectations of any sophomore in the league.

     

    The reigning PVL Press Corps Rookie of the Year made an immediate impact during her first professional season, proving that her decorated collegiate career at National University could translate to the professional level. Despite joining an expansion Capital1 squad that was still building its identity, Belen consistently showcased the all-around game that made her one of the most accomplished players in UAAP history—scoring efficiently, contributing on defense, and serving as a reliable playmaker whenever the Solar Spikers needed someone to steady the offense.

     

    But this conference presents an entirely different challenge.

     

    For the first time since entering the PVL, Belen is no longer expected to carry the team almost single-handedly. Capital1 made arguably the biggest moves of the offseason by signing former Cignal stars Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos after the Super Spikers disbanded. Both arrive fresh off helping Cignal reach the PVL All-Filipino Conference Finals, instantly giving Capital1 proven firepower and valuable championship experience. The Solar Spikers also strengthened their floor defense by selecting two-time UAAP Best Libero Detdet Pepito in the draft, giving the team another cornerstone for the future.

     

    With the supporting cast now significantly improved, the spotlight shifts back to Belen.

     

    Can she evolve from being a standout rookie into the franchise player capable of leading a legitimate contender? Opposing teams will now have multiple offensive threats to worry about, which should create more opportunities for Belen to showcase her versatility. If she can elevate her leadership while maintaining her elite production, Capital1 could emerge as one of the biggest surprises of the PVL On Tour—and Belen could firmly establish herself among the league’s premier stars rather than simply one of its brightest young talents.

     

    2. Brooke Van Sickle (Nxled Chameleons)

     

    Few players enter the PVL On Tour with bigger expectations than Brooke Van Sickle.

     

    The three-time PVL MVP has already established herself as one of the league’s most complete stars, earning multiple individual awards while helping Petro Gazz become one of the league’s model franchises before the team went on leave ahead of the 2026 season. She also played a major role in Petro Gazz’s championship-winning campaigns, proving she can deliver on the biggest stage instead of simply putting up impressive numbers.

     

    Now comes perhaps the biggest challenge of her professional career.

     

    After becoming the centerpiece of Nxled following Petro Gazz’s disbandment, Van Sickle isn’t just expected to continue her MVP-level production—she is expected to transform an entire franchise into a legitimate title contender.

     

    Nxled aggressively rebuilt its roster by surrounding Van Sickle with familiar faces from Petro Gazz, including MJ Phillips and Myla Pablo, before adding veteran five-time Best Setter Gel Cayuna to orchestrate the offense. On paper, the Chameleons suddenly possess one of the league’s deepest lineups.

     

    But talent alone doesn’t guarantee championships.

     

    Van Sickle has already proven she can win titles. The next challenge is showing she can bring that same championship culture to a completely different franchise. If Nxled finally breaks through and captures its first PVL crown, much of that transformation will begin with its biggest star.

     

    3. Trisha Tubu (Farm Fresh Foxies)

     

    Few players transformed their career trajectory as quickly as Trisha Tubu.

     

    After starring for Adamson in the UAAP, Tubu immediately became one of Farm Fresh’s go-to scorers, bringing her explosive attacking ability and fearless mentality into the professional ranks. 

     

    Throughout the past few conferences, she consistently delivered big offensive performances while embracing the responsibility of becoming one of the faces of a franchise still searching for sustained success. Whether it was carrying the scoring load or stepping up during crucial stretches, Tubu showed flashes of becoming one of the PVL’s next elite outside hitters.

    Now, however, expectations have become much higher.

     

    Farm Fresh is no longer simply looking to stay competitive—they’re aiming to establish themselves as legitimate playoff contenders. The Foxies have continued to invest in their roster and develop a stronger core, placing even greater importance on Tubu’s continued growth. As one of the team’s primary offensive options, she’ll be expected to produce consistently against the league’s top clubs while becoming a more complete player on both ends of the floor.

    While the “Phenom” may no longer dominate matches the way she did during her prime, Valdez continues to evolve her game every conference. Her leadership, floor defense, timely scoring, and ability to steady Creamline during pressure moments were once again evident as the Cool Smashers reclaimed the 2026 All-Filipino Conference championship, extending the franchise’s remarkable dynasty.

     

    With Creamline retaining virtually its entire championship core while adding highly regarded Adamson rookie Barbie Jamili through the PVL Draft, Valdez no longer carries the offensive burden alone.

     

    Instead, her role has become even more important.

     

    She is now the emotional leader, the veteran voice, and the player capable of delivering momentum-changing plays whenever the Cool Smashers need them most.

     

    The PVL On Tour offers Valdez another opportunity to prove that even if she isn’t the explosive scorer fans once knew, she remains an irreplaceable piece of Creamline’s championship formula—and a player capable of helping guide another title run.

     

    5. Savannah Davison (PLDT High Speed Hitters)

     

    Savannah Davison has spent the past two seasons proving she belongs among the PVL’s elite.

    The Canadian-Filipina once again earned Best Outside Hitter honors after another outstanding All-Filipino Conference, leading PLDT to a podium finish while remaining one of the league’s most consistent scorers from opening day until the semifinals.

     

    Yet individual brilliance is no longer enough.

     

    Davison also knows what it’s like to win.

     

    Last year, she helped power PLDT to back-to-back championships in the PVL Invitational Conference and the inaugural PVL On Tour, giving the High Speed Hitters their first major titles as a franchise. Those victories showed that PLDT was capable of beating anyone when everything clicked.

     

    Now comes the difficult part.

     

    The upcoming On Tour presents Davison with a chance to prove those championships were not a one-off run or simply perfect timing. With PLDT entering another season as one of the league’s contenders, expectations have shifted from surprising teams to consistently competing for championships.

     

    The High Speed Hitters have repeatedly come close in the All-Filipino Conference but have yet to reach the Finals despite Davison’s stellar production. If PLDT wants to finally break through in the league’s premier tournament, its biggest star will once again be expected to lead the way.

    For almost a decade, Japan served as the foundation of Jaja Santiago’s rise into one of Asia’s most respected middle blockers. Now, the Filipino volleyball star is preparing to write a new chapter and this time on American soil.

     

    Santiago, who now competes under the name Sachi Minowa, confirmed that she will continue her professional career in the United States after securing a spot in League One Volleyball (LOVB), one of the sport’s newest and fastest-growing professional leagues.

     

    During the Philippine leg of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, the 30-year-old told reporters that her move to the United States is already confirmed, with her team assignment still awaiting official announcement.

    “I’m going to US next season,” Santiago confirmed.

     

    Days after her announcement, LOVB officially welcomed the Filipina through its social media channels.

     

    “Adding a new country to our list: the Philippines! Welcome, Sachi “Jaja” Minowa!!”

     

    The move signals the end of a remarkable nine-year stay in Japan, where Santiago steadily established herself as one of the country’s elite middle blockers.

    She first suited up for Saitama Ageo Medics, spending five seasons with the club before transferring to Osaka Marvelous, where she played a key role in capturing the 2024–25 SV.League championship.
