    She also saw action in doubles alongside American partner Iva Jovic. The pair exited in the Round of 32, where the team prize totaled $19,510, or roughly P1.15 million. If divided equally between the two players, Eala’s estimated share would be $9,755, equivalent to around P579,929.

     

    Combined, her earnings from both events place her estimated tournament winnings at $115,475, or approximately P6.8 million.

    However, the upcoming tournament also brings added pressure. Those points from last year will soon expire after the 52-week ranking cycle, meaning Eala must deliver another strong showing in Miami to maintain her current position in the rankings.

     

    Anything short of a deep run, particularly another semifinal appearance could lead to a significant drop in her standing and if her recent performances are any indication, the Filipina star may only just be getting started.

    Alex Eala’s breakthrough run at the BNP Paribas Open came to a disappointing halt on Wednesday afternoon (PHT), as she fell in straight sets, 2-6, 0-6, to Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.


    The Filipina tennis player, who had previously bested Noskova in junior competition, struggled to find rhythm against the aggressive baseline play of the Czech. 

     

    Early in the first set, Noskova broke Eala’s serve, setting the tone for a match that Eala could not turn around. Despite briefly closing the gap at 2-3, Eala was unable to gain traction, and Noskova secured the set in just 32 minutes.

     

    The second set saw Noskova turn the pressure up even further, completely shutting out Eala with a 6-0 sweep to close the match in 55 minutes. 

     

    The defeat continued Eala’s frustrating record against Czech players, dropping her head-to-head to 0-11.

     

    While this loss is a setback on the WTA Tour stage, Eala now shifts focus to the upcoming WTA 1000 Miami Open, beginning March 17, where she will look to replicate her semifinal run from last year—a performance that first put her on the international tennis map.

    Eala has moved into the Round of 16 following a walkover victory against world No. 4 Coco Gauff, who was forced to retire from their Round of 32 match with an apparent left arm or shoulder injury. The match ended with the Filipina leading 6-2, 2-0 when Gauff could no longer continue.

     

    The result sends Eala into a highly anticipated clash against world No. 14 Linda Noskova on Wednesday in California—a matchup that reunites two players who once crossed paths regularly on the junior circuit.

     

    Although it will be their first meeting as professionals, Eala carries positive memories from their earlier encounters.
