    Two Premier Volleyball League (PVL) teams will join forces on the international stage as the Farm Fresh Foxies and ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles combine their talents to represent the Philippines at the 2026 Formosa Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament in Chinese Taipei.

     

    The tournament, scheduled from July 30 to August 2, will provide the Philippine squad with a valuable opportunity to measure itself against a diverse field featuring club teams and national selections from Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and Hong Kong.

     

    Playing under the Strong Group Pilipinas banner, the collaboration between the sister PVL franchises allows both teams to assemble a deeper and more competitive roster while giving their players much-needed international exposure ahead of the upcoming PVL season.

    Leading the Farm Fresh contingent is reigning PVL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Trisha Tubu, who headlines a talented group that includes Roselyn Doria-Aquino, Maicah Larroza, Ces Molina, Louie Romero, and Jonna Perdido.

     

    The Foxies’ roster will be complemented by key players from ZUS Coffee, including AC Miner, Chinnie Arroyo, Clo Mondonedo, Riza Nogales, Alyssa Eroa, and Zamantha Nolasco, creating a balanced lineup that combines youth, experience, and different playing styles.

    Yee expressed his excitement over the opportunity for the players and coaching staff to wear the Strong Group colors, emphasizing the importance of gaining international experience while developing stronger relationships between the two teams.

     

    “It’s an honor for our players and coaching staff to wear the Strong Group colors and represent the Philippines. We hope to make our country proud with the way we compete. At the same time, bringing together players from Farm Fresh and ZUS Coffee is a great opportunity to build relationships, learn from one another, and create a strong team culture that will benefit both clubs when we return to the PVL,” Yee added.

    “Actually, sobrang shocked ko talaga kasi never ko naisip na panaginipan or what na magkakaroon ako ng MVP award,” she said.

    A major reset is underway for Alas Pilipinas Women as the Philippine National Volleyball Federation begins reshaping its national team program ahead of the AVC Women’s Cup scheduled from June 6 to 14 in Candon City.

     

    PNVF president Tonyboy Liao confirmed that the federation is rebuilding the roster after losing several key players from its previous core, forcing the program to rethink its composition just weeks before the continental tournament.

     

    At the same time, support is coming in from the private sector, with Frank Lao and his Strong Group Athletics pledging a major commitment to the national program. 

     

    This includes players and coaching staff from Farm Fresh Foxies and ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, as well as collegiate programs in UAAP and NCAA such as University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, College of Saint Benilde, and Letran.

     

    SGA is also set to shoulder the salaries of its players and coaches who will join the national pool, a move Liao sees as crucial in strengthening the long-term pipeline for Philippine volleyball.

     

    “It’s good that he’s willing to help (Philippine) volleyball. We have to start preparing for the 2029 World Championship, especially since his teams have a lot of young players with great potential. They may still be raw right now, but by that time, they’ll already be fully matured,” Liao said.

    As part of the long-term buildup, Farm Fresh and ZUS Coffee have also committed their first two PVL Draft rounds to the Alas program, aligning their development path with the national team’s 2029 FIVB World Championship plans.

     

    However, challenges remain on the immediate horizon. Newly-appointed head coach Tai Bundit is currently sidelined after an accident in Thailand, forcing the federation to tap his coaching staff to temporarily lead the team.

     

    An interim head coach is expected to be chosen from a pool that includes Sherwin Meneses, Shaq Delos Santos, Geuel Asia, Krung Arbasto, JP Yude, and Benson Bocboc, as internal discussions continue.

     

    Liao is also monitoring the availability of key La Salle standouts Angel Canino, Shevana Laput, and Amie Provido, who are fresh off a dominant 16-0 UAAP Season 88 run.

     

    The rebuilding comes after a decorated stretch for the previous Alas core, which delivered back-to-back historic runs in the AVC Women’s Cup—winning bronze in 2024 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum and reaching the finals in 2025 before falling to powerhouse Vietnam.

     

    That same core also collected four consecutive SEA V.League bronze medals, although a podium finish at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand remained elusive.

     

    Now, with a new pool forming and leadership still in transition, the program is entering a crucial rebuilding phase that will define its next competitive cycle.

    In a dramatic five-set showdown at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, PLDT survived a determined challenge from the Farm Fresh Foxies, pulling off a 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 26-28, 15-11 victory to move one step away from securing a podium finish in the season-ending tournament.

     

    The match swung like a pendulum from start to finish. Farm Fresh struck first, taking the opening set 25-22, but PLDT quickly responded in Set 2 behind sharper execution and better control of key rallies. 

     

    The third set turned into a high-pressure chess match, with PLDT narrowly escaping 27-25 to take control of the series momentum. Farm Fresh refused to fold, forcing a deciding fifth set after edging Set 4 in a tight 28-26 finish.

     

    Davison took over when it mattered most, scoring four of PLDT’s last five points and finishing the match with the decisive attack that sealed the victory. Her 33-point explosion once again underlined her role as the team’s primary offensive engine in high-pressure moments.

     

    “I think we’ve had a pretty tough journey leading up to the playoffs. So, we really came into this game wanting it. You know, really wanting to redeem ourselves,” Davison said.

     

    The win carried deeper meaning for PLDT, which had previously been eliminated from Finals contention by Farm Fresh in the semifinals. That added emotional weight to the matchup, turning Game 1 into a chance for redemption rather than just survival in the bronze medal series.

     

    “I think we’ve had a pretty tough journey throughout the playoffs. We really came into this game really wanting it, really wanting to redeem ourselves,” she added.

    But PLDT’s success was not built on Davison alone. Kianna Dy delivered 16 points, providing timely offense during momentum swings, while Mika Reyes contributed 13 markers through steady net presence and blocking support.     “I could say malungkot pero masaya rin ako kasi mas nakikita ko kung hanggang saan yung team namin, kung ano na yung nabibigay ng mga players and coaches sa liga na ‘to,” Molina said.

     

    “Maganda rin naman ‘yung pinakita namin, ‘yung run namin the whole conference. Masaya ako na maganda ‘yung binigay namin sa conference na ‘to, and I’m sure marami ring na-take ‘yung mga players, experiences sa liga na ‘to.     In this format, control is temporary. Pressure is constant. Cignal meets Farm Fresh at 4 p.m., followed by a heavyweight showdown between PLDT and Creamline at 6:30 p.m.—a matchup many already view as Finals-level in intensity, if not implication.

     

    The semifinal landscape splits into two contrasting rhythms. On one side are PLDT and Cignal—teams that arrive sharpened by preparation, structure, and extended rest. On the other are Creamline and Farm Fresh—squads forged in elimination pressure, carrying momentum from win-or-go-home victories that tested their composure.

Guided by championship-winning coach Koji Tsuzurabara, the Foxies lean on the scoring of Trisha Tubu and the stabilizing presence of veterans Ces Molina and Royse Tubino.

     

    “I think being mentally ready and physically ready but also just, I think coming out the same way we did today. You know, balls to the walls like, literally go for everything. Positive energy. Chemistry on the court and I think we’ll be okay,” said Farm Fresh playmaker Alohi Robins-Hardy.

     

    But Cignal represents the counterweight—experience, familiarity, and a proven system. The Super Spikers already own a recent four-set win over Farm Fresh from their prelim clash at the same venue, a reminder that margins at this level are thin but meaningful. With Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos driving the offense and Gel Cayuna setting the tempo, Cignal thrives on discipline and defensive precision.

     

    Still, both sides know that past meetings offer little protection now. “Siguro ‘yung recovery talaga and ‘yung mindset namin and kailangan going to the semifinals talagang mas mag-double o mag-triple pa, especially sa preparation namin, very crucial sa amin ‘yung game plan every training,” said Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos.

     

    Then comes the nightcap—where pressure sharpens into spectacle. PLDT and Creamline enter on different wavelengths but toward the same destination.

Alyssa Valdez’s resurgence, the steady production of Bernadeth Pons and Tots Carlos, and the playmaking of Kyle Negrito keep them dangerous in any setting. Inside presence from Pangs Panaga anchors their defense, while the possible full return of Jema Galanza could tilt their offensive balance once again.

     

    “Hindi pa naman tapos ‘yung trabaho. Ang target namin is talagang maging top ulit. Gagawin namin yung best namin para makabalik kami doon. Pero syempre, lahat naman, gustong manalo. Magpre-prepare mo na kami for Saturday’s game. Balik kami doon sa one point at a time, one stop, so doon muna kami mag-focus,” said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses.
