    Gilas completed a flawless 5-0 campaign in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers, finishing their gold medal run with an 85-70 victory over host Thailand on Sunday to formally secure a spot in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup set in India this August.


    The final was far from a runaway despite earlier results suggesting control. After sweeping Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia en route to the championship round, the Philippines faced its tightest test yet against a Thailand squad determined to defend home court.

     

    The hosts stayed within striking distance deep into the fourth quarter, trimming the gap to 68-61 with four minutes remaining after a Lorenzo Ravazzini basket, threatening to disrupt Gilas’ perfect march.

     

    But when the game tightened, the Philippines answered with composure. A decisive 10-2 finishing run shut the door on Thailand’s comeback hopes, with Joaquin Tovera capping the surge with a key layup with 1:35 left to restore separation and secure control.

    Tovera led Gilas in the championship game with 21 points on efficient 8-of-14 shooting, adding two rebounds, one assist, and three steals in a well-rounded performance that set the tone on both ends.

     

    He was supported by a balanced scoring effort, with Patrick Pasinos and Ethan Aguas contributing 13 points each, while Chog Moral delivered across the board with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in a steady all-around showing.

     

    Thailand, who still did enough across the tournament to qualify for the main event, leaned on Ravazzini’s double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds in the final push, but ultimately fell short against Gilas’ late-game execution.

     

    The earlier matchup between the two teams also saw Gilas secure an 85-70 win, reinforcing their control of the matchup while highlighting how much closer the rematch became under title pressure.

     

    Despite the tighter finish, the result extended the Philippines’ dominance in the regional stage, marking their seventh consecutive SEABA Qualifiers championship.

     

    With the sweep complete and momentum intact, Gilas now turns its attention to a bigger stage in India, where the challenge will rise—but so too will expectations for a program that continues to define regional consistency.

    The growing depth of Gilas Pilipinas Boys was on full display once again as every player contributed on the scoreboard in a commanding 60-point victory, 110-50, over Singapore on Thursday in the 2026 FIBA Under-18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers in Krabi, Thailand. 

     

    While the Philippines has showcased its offensive firepower throughout the tournament, its latest victory highlighted something equally important: a roster capable of producing from every position and every unit on the floor.

     

    The convincing win improved Gilas to 2-0 in Pool A and officially punched its ticket to the crossover semifinals alongside host Thailand, which later defeated Vietnam, 81-55.

     

    Unlike many youth teams that rely heavily on a handful of scorers, Gilas continued to spread the workload. 

     

    Head coach Juno Sauler saw all 12 players register points as the Filipinos overwhelmed Singapore from start to finish.

     

    The contest was effectively decided early. Gilas stormed to a 28-11 advantage in the opening quarter and steadily widened the gap behind relentless defense and efficient scoring.

     

    The defining sequence came after halftime when the Filipinos delivered perhaps their most complete stretch of the tournament.

    Gilas erupted for 33 points in the third quarter while holding Singapore scoreless, turning an already comfortable lead into a runaway victory.

     

    FEU-Diliman standout Prince Cariño led the charge with 21 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting performance. Joaquin Tovera continued his strong run in the qualifiers with 16 points, while Patrick Pasinos and Ethan Aguas added 13 and 11, respectively.

     

    Kyle Sardon chipped in 11 markers, while Ziv Espinas contributed 10 as Gilas once again showcased its depth.

     

    The victory followed another one-sided result in the Philippines’ tournament opener, a 121-28 demolition of Vietnam, further underlining the team’s dominance in the regional competition.

     

    Singapore, which fell to 0-2, struggled to keep pace against the relentless Filipino attack. Shabbir Shajan was the lone bright spot for the Singaporeans with 14 points.

     

    Through two games, Gilas has outscored its opponents by a staggering 231-78 margin, reinforcing its status as one of the favorites to secure a berth in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup.

     

    The Filipinos now turn their attention to their biggest test of the qualifiers as they face host Thailand on Friday at 7 p.m., with an unbeaten Pool A campaign on the line.

    Chog Moral, Prince Cariño banner final Gilas Pilipinas Youth roster for Asia Cup SEABA U18 Qualifiers 

    Gilas Pilipinas Youth has finalized its 12-man roster for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers in Krabi, Thailand. 


    Chog Moral and Prince Cariño will spearhead the national team’s bid for a continental tournament berth.

     

    Head coach Juno Sauler named his final lineup ahead of the June 10-14 competition, which serves as the qualifying tournament for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup set for August in India.

     

    Moral headlines the squad after gaining national attention through his breakout performances in last year’s Palarong Pambansa. 

     

    The Pampanga-native guard has since become one of the country’s most recognizable youth basketball players and is expected to play a major role in the Philippines’ backcourt.

     

    Joining him is Cariño, who has established himself as one of the top young big men in the country through his performances with Far Eastern University-Diliman. 

     

    His presence in the paint and experience in high-level school competitions are expected to provide stability for the youthful national team.

     

    Also making the final roster are Ethan Aguas, Andrew Chio, Ziv Espinas, Patrick Pasinos, Hans Patagoc, Louis Razon, Kyle Sardon, Joaquin Tovera, Bruce Tubongbanua, and Cagurungan, completing the 12-man squad that will represent the country in the regional qualifiers.

    The Philippines has been drawn into Group A alongside host Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. 

    Gilas Youth opens its campaign against Vietnam on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. before facing Singapore on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Filipinos will then close out the group stage against Thailand on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

     

    A strong showing in the tournament is crucial as the Philippines seeks qualification to the FIBA U18 Asia Cup, where the region’s top youth teams will compete later this year.

     

    Beyond the competition, the national team will also carry an emotional motivation into the tournament after dedicating its campaign to the late Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili of Ateneo de Manila University, who recently passed away following a drowning incident in Aurora.

     

    “At this moment, our hearts are incredibly heavy. We are mourning the sudden, tragic loss of our brothers, Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili. Several of our boys shared the court and built strong bonds with them,” the team said in a post on social media.

     

    “This campaign is no longer just about the gold—it is about honoring our country and honoring their legacy.”

     

    With a mix of rising stars, established youth standouts, and added motivation off the court, Gilas Youth hopes to translate its talent into results as it begins its quest for a spot in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup.
