    Philippine League of Legends team secures Esports Nations Cup slot after qualifier run

    The Philippine team is set to return to the international esports stage after the country’s League of Legends squad fought through a challenging Southeast Asia/Oceania qualifier path to secure a place in the Esports Nations Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

     

    The Esports Foundation (EF) confirmed on Tuesday, June 23, that the online regional qualifiers have concluded, with the Philippines claiming one of the region’s two available League of Legends slots for the global competition scheduled from November 2 to 29.

     

    The road to Riyadh was far from easy for the Filipino lineup. After suffering an early setback in the upper bracket, the team responded with a strong lower bracket campaign, overcoming Guam, Australia, and Singapore to keep its international hopes alive.

     

    That comeback secured the Philippines a place among the world’s top national teams that will compete in the upcoming tournament.

     

    Representing the country are Reven Lhi “Relhia” Aloi as top laner, Joshua “Devoured” Escucharo as jungler, Cherv Zildjan “Cherb” Dorado as mid laner, Kyle “Dawn” Somera as ADC, and Jan Edward “Cresho” Hortizuela as support. Ralph Andrei “Leathergoods” Llabres will guide the squad as coach.

     

    The qualification represents another major step forward for Philippine League of Legends esports, giving local players the opportunity to test themselves against international contenders on one of the biggest competitive stages.

     

    The League of Legends event at the Esports Nations Cup will begin on November 21, with the championship match scheduled for November 29.

    While the national team prepares for Riyadh, the League of Legends Filipino teams is also receiving another boost through the return of the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) 2026 Wild Card.

     

    The tournament will provide Filipino organizations with another route toward the region’s premier competition, the LCP, where teams compete for opportunities to reach global events such as the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds).

     

    The 2026 Wild Card format will begin with a two-day single-elimination Open Round before advancing teams enter a double-elimination Knockout Round under Fearless Draft rules.

     

    Regional winners and the Last Chance Qualifier champion will then battle in the LCP Wild Card Playoffs from October 3 to 6. The eventual champion will earn the region’s lone opportunity to enter the LCP Promotion Series.

     

    The Philippines has already seen success through the Wild Card route, with Inferno Esports making a breakthrough last year. The Filipino squad defeated teams from across Southeast Asia before beating Thailand’s Full Sense in the finals to reach the promotion tournament.

     

    The next Philippine LCP Wild Card qualifier will open registration from July 30 to August 12. The Open Round is scheduled for August 15 to 16, while the Knockout Round will run from August 20 to 23.

     

    With two major international pathways opening up, Philippine League of Legends continues to build momentum, giving local players more chances to compete and represent the country on the global esports stage.

    T1 sets sights on the Philippines, considers Manila event featuring Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok

    South Korea’s esports giant T1 is looking beyond its home market and setting its sights on the Philippines.


    The possibility of bringing T1’s world-famous roster to Manila, including legendary superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, has emerged as the organization studies how it can deepen its connection with Filipino fans.

     

    T1 Chief Operating Officer Josh Ahn admitted that his early understanding of the Philippine esports scene was heavily influenced by the dominance of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which has become the country’s biggest competitive gaming title.

     

    “I always thought the Filipino esports market was all about MLBB and that League of Legends was very niche,” he said.

     

    However, that perception changed after learning about the strength of the local League of Legends audience and the support T1 already has in the country.

     

    “That’s why I was very surprised when Jasmine showed me that there’s a sizable League of Legends fanbase in the Philippines, and that many of them support T1.”

     

    The discovery has opened the door for possible fan-focused events, with Faker potentially serving as the biggest attraction.

    Widely considered one of the greatest esports athletes ever, Faker’s legacy extends beyond competitive League of Legends. The six-time World Champion has become a global gaming icon whose presence alone can turn an event into a major spectacle.

     

    “In order for us to get the grassroots growing, we have to have people interested in playing the game, watching the game, and we hope to do that in the Philippines if possible,” Ahn said. 

     

    While Faker could be the name that attracts attention, T1 is looking at a bigger vision, building a sustainable esports connection with Filipino fans.

     

    Ahn revealed that T1 is considering two possible formats for a Philippine debut. One option is the organization’s Home Ground experience, a premium event concept built around official League of Legends competition and fan interaction.

     

    The other possibility is an off-season showcase similar to T1’s successful Vietnam event, featuring exhibition matches, fan activities, and opportunities for supporters to engage directly with players.

     

    “We want to start with an event if possible. A big event or a small event would help us gauge market interest, and then we can consider other ways to engage with fans in the Philippines,” he said.

     

    The move would represent a major step for T1 as it explores a market where esports fandom is already deeply established. Although Mobile Legends currently dominates the Philippine scene, T1’s interest suggests that League of Legends still has room to grow among Filipino fans.

     

    Whether Manila will eventually host a T1 event in 2027 remains uncertain, but the conversation has officially started — and one of esports’ biggest names could become the bridge between T1 and the Philippines.
