Despite the heightened expectations surrounding Nxled’s upgraded roster, the veteran setter remains focused on process rather than pressure.

     

    “For me, Nxled has always been a talented team, especially with the veterans already here. Maybe the expectations have just grown because of the new additions. But I don’t focus on labels as a super team. My priority is how I can help and how we can become better as a group every day,” Cayuna said in a media interaction.

     

    One of the early focal points of Nxled’s preparation has been developing chemistry between Cayuna and the team’s key attackers, including three-time PVL Most Valuable Player Brooke Van Sickle. Training sessions have already begun with the duo working closely to establish timing, rhythm, and trust in execution—crucial elements for a team looking to compete at the highest level.

    Cayuna emphasized that building connections with Nxled’s veteran core and star hitters is central to her integration process.

     

    “I’m really looking forward to working with them because it’s a big opportunity for me to grow as a player. There’s so much I can learn from them, especially because they are veterans with a lot of experience in the game. I also want to build our chemistry on the court as soon as possible so I can help the team,” she added.

     

    Her move to Nxled also marks a significant new chapter in her career following her stint with Cignal, which began in 2022. Cayuna admitted that the transition was one of the most challenging moments of her professional journey, particularly after being part of a Cignal squad that had just come off a breakthrough PVL Finals appearance.

     

    “Honestly, it was one of the most challenging moments of my career so far. Coming from a finals run, you expect to celebrate first. But suddenly there was a big change because of the disbandment. I had to be practical and think about what the best next step was for me and my career.”

     

    After weighing her options, Cayuna ultimately chose Nxled, citing both the organization’s vision and the trust they placed in her as key factors in her decision.

     

    “Among all the options I had, I believed that Nxled was the environment that would help me grow both as a player and as a person. I also felt the trust they gave me, and I want to repay that by working hard and helping the team achieve its goals,” Cayuna concluded.

     

    With the PVL On Tour series set to begin on Wednesday, July 8, in Ilagan City, Isabela, Nxled will immediately face a major early test as they open their campaign against powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers—a matchup that will offer an early glimpse of how quickly Cayuna and her new team can gel under competitive pressure.

    Lyann De Guzman embraces mentor role as new PVL hopefuls prepare for leap to pros

    Only a year into her professional career, Lyann De Guzman suddenly found herself on the other side of the PVL journey — no longer the nervous rookie trying to earn a spot, but one of the players helping the next wave prepare for the pressure that comes with turning pro.

     

    Ahead of the 2026 PVL Rookie Draft Combine, the Nxled Chameleons winger joined fellow PVL standouts AC Miner, Chenie Tagaod, and Ishie Lalongisip in speaking to draft hopefuls during a pre-draft gathering organized by Hustle & Groove.

     

    For De Guzman, the experience served as a reminder of how quickly life in the pros moves.

     

    “Actually hanggang ngayon, [feeling ko] sobrang bilis na isang taon na kami agad sa pro. And for me… Marami pang kailangan matutunan din [kami]. And of course yung mga papasok din naman ngayon. I know, [maalam] na din sila sa volleyball,” De Guzman told One Sports during the pre-draft meeting.

     

    But instead of viewing the incoming class as mere competition, De Guzman sees the 41-player draft pool as a challenge that could elevate everyone in the league — veterans and rookies alike.

     

    “Sobrang taas na rin ng standards nila. Sobrang makikipagsabayan din sila. So ano lang din, parang give and take lang din. Na matututo kami sa kanila, and matututo din sila sa amin.”

     

    That perspective becomes even more personal for De Guzman considering several draft aspirants are players she once shared the court with in high school and college.

     

    One of them is former Ateneo setter Taks Fujimoto, one of De Guzman’s closest friends and former teammates.

     

    Having gone through the uncertainties of the transition herself, De Guzman said she and Miner constantly reminded Fujimoto to trust the opportunity in front of her despite the risks attached to pursuing a professional career.

     

    “Actually sinasabi nga lang namin kay Taks nalang na go for it lang talaga. High risk lang talaga. High risk, high reward,” De Guzman said.

    “Kasi you never know the result hanggang hindi mo tinatry. And support lang kami kahit anong mangyari. Kasi we know naman na, alam namin yung kakayahan ni Taks sa volleyball. And we know na kaya niya.”

     

    For De Guzman, the upcoming combine in Mandaluyong is less about proving who belongs and more about watching a new generation finally receive its shot.

     

    “Actually, very happy kasi na parang another opportunity for them na to grow din. Of course, mashowcase din yung talent nila,” she said.

     

    “And nakikita ko talaga kasi halos lahat ng mga papasok ngayon, naging teammates ko rin noong high school kami and noong college. And I know naman yung kakayahan nila.”

     

    Now entering her sophomore year in the PVL, De Guzman is beginning to realize something many young pros eventually discover.

     

    The league never stops evolving — and sometimes, the players you once grew up with become the ones pushing you to grow even more.

    For Brooke Van Sickle, the 2026 Volleyball All-Star Showcase isn’t just another event—it’s a reminder of how far she’s come, and how close she now feels to home.

     

    Long before stepping onto the bright stage of the Premier Volleyball League, Van Sickle spent most of her life in the United States. But this week in Candon City, the journey feels full circle.

     

    “Yeah, I’m really happy, you know, super grateful to be able to just go around Ilocos Sur a little bit more in the Candon area, just to be able to see the area more than when we would come with PVL for games,” said the Nxled star, who hails from nearby San Emilio.

     

    This time, it wasn’t just about volleyball.

     

    Instead of the usual in-and-out game schedule, Van Sickle and fellow All-Stars slowed things down—sharing a welcome dinner, exploring the city, and even planting trees at the local Ecopark. It’s a side of the sport she rarely gets to experience, but one that has quietly deepened her connection to the country.

     

    “It’s a little hard to fit in extracurricular activities. So it’s been really exciting and really fun to be able to plant the trees, just see the Eco Park a lot. It’s really beautiful out here. So just all good experiences.”

     

    While the setting feels familiar, the stage still brings something new.

     

    Despite already being a three-time league MVP, Van Sickle is stepping into uncharted territory with her first-ever All-Star appearance—an experience she admits comes with a mix of excitement and nerves.

     

    “Yeah, I’m just really excited. I mean, I’m a little nervous. I don’t know what to expect because I’ve never been a part of any All-Star event like this before,” said Van Sickle, who is part of Team Hustle as a reserve. “So I’m just really excited to be surrounded by such good athletes and just wonderful people.”

     

    But beyond the competition, what stands out most is the shift in environment.

     

    Rivalries are set aside, replaced by shared moments and new connections. For Van Sickle, it’s a rare chance to see fellow players beyond the intensity of matches—to understand them not just as opponents, but as peers.

    “It’s cool to get to know everybody slowly and everything. So yeah, I’m really excited just for good volleyball and I hope the fans enjoy it too and this is a good experience for everybody,” she added.

    Her return to Ilocos Sur also carries a quieter, more personal meaning.

     

    “It still feels awesome. Like, I know the first time I was here, it was just trying to grasp like, oh, I’m finally here,” she said, recalling her previous visit during the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

     

    “It feels right. It’s really good to be out of the city. I’m not really a city girl. I’m more like a province, nature girl.”

     

    This time, the experience becomes even more special with family set to watch her play—adding another layer to a week already filled with meaning.

     

    “They’re going to come to the game tomorrow. So I’m really excited to spend time with them and just get to know Candon a little bit more.”

     

    Now in her second year in the Philippines, Van Sickle’s journey has evolved from adjustment to belonging.

     

    What started as an opportunity has turned into something more permanent, something personal.

    “Yeah, I mean, obviously, coming to events like this is very helpful in my personal growth and everything and just, like, eye-opening for me. And obviously, anything I go to is always a wonderful experience and I’m really grateful to be here. And yeah, it’s slowly, it’s been a really great experience these past two years,” said Van Sickle.

     

    “And I’m finally, like, coming to a place where I’m, like, this is home for me. Like, it’s, like, I get it, like, okay, I’m from Hawaii and everything, but I see this as home. Like, okay, like, that’s, like, vacation for me now is going to Hawaii. So, like, it’s really great to be here and just, you know, I’m loving life and just super grateful for everything and just, yeah, I’m just super happy all the time. Yeah.”

     

    In a weekend built around stars, stats, and spectacle, Van Sickle’s story stands out for a different reason.

    The Farm Fresh Foxies made history on Tuesday, April 7, as they punched their ticket to the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) for the very first time, following a dominant 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 victory over the Nxled Chameleons at the FilOil Centre. The landmark win marks a defining moment for the Foxies, a team that has steadily grown in competitiveness under the guidance of its new leadership.

     

    It was a balanced and disciplined effort from Farm Fresh, with Trisha Tubu leading the scoring charge with 12 points. She received ample support from Ces Molina, who contributed 10 points, while Ara Galang added nine. Complementing the attack were Riri Meneses and Royse Tubino, who chipped in seven and five points, respectively. The collective output underscored the Foxies’ cohesion and adaptability on the court, traits that have become more evident under the guidance of head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.

     

    Tsuzurabara, a Japanese tactician with a proven pedigree, previously led the Petro Gazz Angels to the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference championship. During his tenure with Petro Gazz, he successfully managed high-caliber players, including Brooke Van Sickle, MJ Phillips, Myla Pablo, Jules Tolentino, Bang Pineda, Djanel Cheng, and Ranya Musa, among others. Interestingly, many of the core players for Nxled were former Petro Gazz members, who were recruited by the Chameleons after the Angels disbanded.

    Despite his familiarity with both squads, Tsuzurabara remained humble in the post-match press conference and refrained from commenting on whether it gave his team a competitive edge. Instead, he focused on instilling a winning mindset and guiding Farm Fresh toward sustained success.

    “No comment. My coaching started in January. Always, I said to the players, change your mind, change your heart. Little bit, step by step, they have changed their mind. Good game,” Tsuzurabara said.

     

    He further emphasized the Foxies’ status as underdogs and their drive to make a historic breakthrough.

     

    “But we do our best, just best game. Because we are challenger. We are challenger. Other teams, example, Creamline, PLDT, other teams, always A-rank. Farm Fresh before A-B, C-rank team. We are a challenger. That’s it. I want to make, we must make a new history of Farm Fresh,” he added.

    Tubu, the night’s standout performer, echoed the coach’s philosophy, noting that Tsuzurabara has helped unlock new potential within the squad.

     

    “It’s true we’re considered challengers and it’s a challenge for us. How long are we going to stay challengers? Each of us approaches every game knowing we have to work hard for every point. Like coach says, don’t think about winning—focus on how you win each point. And he always reminds us that our real opponent isn’t the team on the other side, but ourselves. If you beat yourself, you win the game,” Tubu said.

     

    With the historic victory, Farm Fresh now prepares to face the formidable Cignal Super Spikers in the first semifinal matchup on Saturday, April 11, at the Mall of Asia Arena. The second semifinal will feature the perennial powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers against the PLDT High Speed Hitters later that day.

     

    Farm Fresh’s remarkable run this season highlights the team’s evolution under Tsuzurabara, with players demonstrating resilience, tactical discipline, and a relentless work ethic.     Nxled’s rise this conference did not begin with a miracle run. It began with inheritance. When Petro Gazz opted to take a leave of absence from the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference, Nxled found itself in possession of something every young franchise hopes to build over time but rarely acquires overnight — a championship backbone.

     

    Now, that backbone is beginning to show its true value. With a semifinals berth within reach, the Chameleons are discovering that what they absorbed was not just talent, but temperament. 

     

    Not just star power, but the internal wiring that helps teams survive when the season starts narrowing and every match begins to feel like an elimination game.

     

    That edge was on full display the last time Nxled took the floor. Faced with a Galeries Tower side that had already given them trouble in the preliminary round, the Chameleons responded not with panic, but with control, dispatching the Highrisers, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23, last March 28 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium to stay alive in the Play-in tournament.

     

    And for veterans like Myla Pablo, that composure did not come from nowhere. “I guess that desire and grit to win came from our experience with Petro Gazz before. We’re kind of used to playing in crucial games,” former MVP Pablo said.

     

    That may be the clearest difference in this Nxled team.For a franchise still searching for its first true breakthrough, it now has players who have already lived through the pressure that comes with title runs, sudden-death scenarios, and matches where one bad stretch can end everything.

     

    Brooke Van Sickle, Pablo, and MJ Phillips have all brought that pedigree into a team still trying to define itself, and in the process, Nxled has begun to look less like a rebuilding side and more like a group learning how to win in real time.

     

    Pablo said that transition has been intentional from the start. “When we joined Nxled under coach Ettore (Guidetti), we wanted to apply the things and experience we had with Petro Gazz. I feel that we’re playing and communicating better during crucial games. The leadership and ferocity in each of us come out naturally,” Pablo added.

     

    That influence now gives Nxled a real shot at history. The Chameleons will try to secure their first-ever semifinals appearance since entering the league three years ago when they face fourth-seeded Farm Fresh on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

     

    It is unfamiliar ground for the franchise — but not for the players now leading it. Van Sickle, one of the most decorated names in the league, has embraced the urgency of the moment without losing sight of the process that got them here.

    “I’m just excited to keep moving forward one step at a time,” Van Sickle said.

     

    “So, we just focused on ourselves and what we can improve on as a team. And how we can still stick together and play cohesively. So, we’re just doing a little, you know, fixing things within our side of the court,” she added.

     

    That mindset could matter just as much as talent against a Farm Fresh side that nearly pushed Nxled to the brink in the preliminaries. The Chameleons needed five sets to escape the Foxies the last time they met, and that narrow margin has only sharpened their preparation during the long Holy Week break.

     

    For Van Sickle, the pause may have arrived at the perfect time. “So, I think, yeah, just moving forward. Just watching more film. Making sure our bodies are feeling great. And just continue to keep communicating and pushing each other in practice. So, really excited for the next game. It’s going to be really fun,” the Filipino-American winger added.

     

    If Nxled’s match is about proving that its transformation is real, the other Play-in showdown carries a different kind of weight.

    The Chameleons’ path to this point has hardly been straightforward, which may be exactly why they now appear more dangerous than ever.

     

    They looked like a legitimate contender early in the conference, opening their campaign with three straight wins and immediately showing signs that they could be more than just an emerging side trying to keep pace.

     

    That momentum, however, did not last long. A four-game losing streak suddenly threw Nxled off course and placed its campaign in serious danger, forcing the team into the kind of pressure stretch that often reveals whether a squad is truly ready to compete for something bigger.

     

    Instead of fading, Nxled found a way to respond at the right time.The Chameleons recovered with two crucial wins to close the preliminary round, preserving their season and forcing their way into the play-in phase with renewed confidence and a second chance to keep their breakthrough hopes alive.

    The Nxled Chameleons may not have fully found their rhythm in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, but they continue to show resilience and composure when it matters most—keeping their semifinal hopes alive with a crucial victory.

     

    Nxled booked their spot in the next phase of the Play-In round after sweeping the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23, on Saturday, March 28, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. While the straight-sets result suggested control, the contest itself was far from straightforward, as the Chameleons had to fend off multiple surges from a determined Galeries side that refused to back down.

     

    From the opening set, Nxled was forced to stay sharp against a Highrisers squad that had already proven capable of pulling off upsets earlier in the conference. The Chameleons leaned on their experience in the closing moments of each set, particularly in the first and third frames where execution in crunch time spelled the difference.

    Leading the charge was team captain Brooke Van Sickle, who once again anchored Nxled with her leadership and steady presence on the court.     “Early in the preliminaries, Galeries upset some teams, especially us. I already knew they were going to be tough and come out firing. Even in the third set, they were still battling until the end, so we just stayed calm and collected,” Van Sickle said.

     

    Despite some inconsistencies throughout the conference, the Chameleons showed flashes of cohesion and mental toughness—qualities that could prove crucial as the competition intensifies. Van Sickle highlighted the team’s ability to stay together through adversity, pointing to their collective effort rather than individual brilliance.

    “There were a few road bumps, but I’m proud of all the girls for sticking together and working as a team, whoever was on the court. I’m really proud of everyone,” she added.

     

    The win not only keeps Nxled in contention but also reinforces their identity as a team capable of grinding out results even without playing at peak form. Contributions came from across the roster, with different players stepping up in key moments to maintain control whenever Galeries threatened to swing momentum.

     

    Van Sickle, who holds the distinction of being the first-ever Most Valuable Player in PVL history, also took time to acknowledge the growth and potential of their opponents. The Galeries Tower Highrisers, one of the younger squads in the league, showed significant promise throughout the conference and pushed Nxled to stay disciplined until the final point.

     

    “I thought Galeries had a really good run. They are going to be very lethal in the future. They already did well,” Van Sickle concluded.

     

    With the victory, Nxled now turns its attention to an even tougher challenge ahead. The Chameleons will face the Farm Fresh Foxies on Tuesday, April 7, at the FilOil Centre, with a coveted semifinal berth on the line.
