    The news was first reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, who revealed on X that Brooks and the Suns had reached an agreement on the lucrative extension.

    The extension represents another significant step in Phoenix’s efforts to establish a long-term identity following a dramatic roster overhaul over the past year. Brooks has quickly emerged as one of the franchise’s emotional leaders, bringing the defensive intensity, physicality, and competitive edge that the Suns have sought to build around under first-year head coach Jordan Ott.

     

    The timing of the agreement is also notable. Brooks was entering the final season of the four-year, $86 million contract he originally signed before arriving in Phoenix and would have become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Both games featured major individual performances and decisive third-quarter runs that helped define the tone of their respective series moving forward. 


    Magic vs. Pistons – Detroit takes Game 2, series tied 1–1 (98–83) 

     

    The Detroit Pistons responded in emphatic fashion at home, overpowering the Orlando Magic 98–83 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series to even things at one game apiece. After a tightly contested opening half, Detroit seized control with a dominant third quarter that ultimately decided the game.

    Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again set the tone for Oklahoma City, finishing with 37 points and 9 assists while controlling the offense with his usual mix of pace manipulation and efficient shot creation. His ability to consistently collapse Phoenix’s defense opened lanes for role players and kept the Suns scrambling in half-court sets.

     

    Phoenix leaned heavily on Devin Booker, who kept the Suns competitive in stretches with his scoring pressure, while Dillon Brooks added 30 points in a strong offensive showing. However, Phoenix struggled to generate consistent stops, and their defensive rotations were repeatedly exposed by Oklahoma City’s spacing and ball movement.

    Kevin Durant returned to Phoenix Suns with mixed emotions, but it was his new home that stole the spotlight on Wednesday (PHT). 


    The Houston Rockets staged a dramatic comeback to claim a 119-105 victory, overcoming a 21-point first-quarter deficit in a game that sealed Phoenix’s fate regarding automatic playoff qualification in the Western Conference.

     

    Durant, traded from Phoenix to Houston last year, remained a focal point on the floor, finishing with 24 points. 

     

    Houston’s resilience was evident in the fourth quarter, where they outscored Phoenix 38-21 to secure the win. The Rockets shot 45% from the field and dominated the boards 55-34, turning 24 offensive rebounds into 37 second-chance points.

     

    Amen Thompson spearheaded the comeback with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. added 20 points, including five three-pointers, as Houston extended its winning streak to seven games and nine victories in 11 outings. 

     

    Alperen Sengun contributed 12 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, though foul trouble limited him to 28 minutes.

    Phoenix had their moments, starting strong and building a 21-point lead early. 

     

    Devin Booker excelled from the line, hitting 15 of 16 free throws, while Kevin Williams contributed 5 of 6. The Suns converted 34 of 39 free throws, both season highs, but struggled from the field at 42.7%.
