    Capital1 once again finds itself in prime position to shape the future of the Premier Volleyball League.

     

    After choosing Bella Belen a year ago, the Solar Spikers head into the 2026 PVL Draft Lottery carrying the highest probability of securing the No. 1 overall pick for the second straight year.


    The PVL confirmed on Sunday the four teams included in this year’s draft lottery ahead of the official draw on Monday, May 25. Capital1 holds the highest chance of securing the top overall pick with four lottery balls, giving the team a 40-percent chance of landing the No. 1 selection. 

     

    Galeries Tower follows with three balls for a 30-percent probability, while Zus Coffee owns a 20-percent chance with two balls. Choco Mucho, entering the lottery for the first time, carries the lowest odds at 10 percent.

     

    Yet despite Capital1 holding the edge, recent history has already shown that the lottery guarantees nothing.

     

    Last season, Nxled entered the draw with the best odds only to slide down to the fourth overall selection, opening the door for Capital1 to jump ahead and select Belen.

     

    Now, the possibility of pairing another elite talent with Belen has become one of the biggest storylines surrounding this year’s draft.

    Among the names generating the most attention is former National University standout Alyssa Solomon, who is widely viewed as the presumptive No. 1 overall prospect of the class.

     

    Solomon skipped last year’s rookie draft to continue her overseas development with Osaka Marvelous in Japan’s SV.League, where she appeared in 30 games and produced 147 points behind 116 attacks, 27 blocks, and four aces.

    Another intriguing possibility is UST standout and former Golden Tigresses captain Detdet Pepito, who also remains among the highly regarded names expected to headline the draft class.

     

    For Capital1, the timing could not be better. After acquiring former MVPs Vanie Gandler and Erika Santos in free agency, the Solar Spikers are quickly transforming from an expansion franchise into one of the league’s most aggressive roster-builders.

     

    Landing the No. 1 pick again would only strengthen the perception that the organization is accelerating toward contender status far quicker than expected.

     

    Still, the unpredictability of the lottery remains part of the intrigue. While probabilities favor Capital1, every team involved still has a legitimate shot at changing its future overnight.

    The Premier Volleyball League’s draft lottery has quietly evolved into one of the most important dates of the offseason because it could reshape the future of struggling franchises in a matter of minutes.


    Set for May 25 ahead of the league’s Rookie Draft in June, the annual event once again places the spotlight on the teams at the bottom of the standings, all hoping fortune swings their way in a year expected to feature one of the deepest rookie pools yet.

     

    Unlike the NBA, where 14 non-playoff teams enter the lottery, the PVL keeps the field limited. Only the four teams with the lowest weighted records across all conferences from the previous season are eligible for the lottery draw, making every losing stretch from the past year carry long-term consequences.

     

    The team with the worst weighted record receives the biggest advantage with a 40-percent chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick. The next teams receive 30 percent, 20 percent, and 10 percent odds respectively. 

     

    Inside the lottery bowl, that translates to four balls for the lowest-ranked team, followed by three, two, and one. Picks No. 5 to No. 9 are already fixed based on weighted standings, leaving the lottery itself to determine only the top four selections.

     

    The system was introduced in 2024 when the PVL launched its rookie draft. It was designed to prevent automatic rewards for the league’s weakest teams while still giving them better chances to rebuild.

    In the inaugural lottery, the process followed expectations almost perfectly. ZUS Coffee entered with the worst overall record and secured the No. 1 pick, while Capital1, Galeries Tower, and Farm Fresh followed in order.

     

    But the following year proved how quickly odds can collapse once the draw begins. Capital1 overcame only a 30-percent chance to leap to the top selection, while Nxled despite owning the highest probability and four balls in the draw — slid to No. 4 overall.

     

    That unpredictability is precisely why the event has become compelling for fans and front offices alike. The system rewards struggling teams without guaranteeing salvation, creating tension before a single rookie even steps onto a professional court.

     

    This year’s lottery may also carry added complications. Pending league confirmation, the formula for weighted rankings could still change depending on whether results from the PVL on Tour and Invitational tournaments are included in the computation. The exits of Cignal HD Spikers and Petro Gazz Angels could also affect how standings and probabilities are recalculated among the remaining nine squads.

     

    Beyond the lottery itself, much of the excitement comes from the names expected to headline the 2026 rookie class.

     

    Several collegiate standouts from the UAAP and NCAA have already expressed willingness to turn professional, giving teams even more reason to chase the top pick. 

     

    Among the most anticipated prospects are Detdet Pepito of the UST Golden Tigresses, veteran setter Lams Lamina from the NU Lady Bulldogs, and four-time UAAP Best Middle Blocker Nina Ytang of the UP Fighting Maroons.

     

    With elite collegiate stars preparing for the next step and rebuilding PVL teams desperate for franchise-changing talent, the draft lottery has become more than an offseason formality.

    As the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball comes to an end, attention has quickly shifted from championship celebrations to career-defining decisions.


    For some players, the next chapter is already clear — the professional stage awaits. For others, one more season in the collegiate spotlight remains possible. And then there is the unique case of the newly crowned champions from De La Salle University Lady Spikers, whose future continues to fuel intrigue after ending the season with perfection.

     

    Fresh off a dominant 16-0 campaign that culminated in reclaiming the UAAP crown, the Lady Spikers left fans speculating after their now-viral post-game “archer stance” celebration. 

     

    Traditionally, graduating players stand at the center of the formation, but this time, no one occupied the middle spot. The gesture immediately sparked conversations that La Salle’s core could return intact for Season 89.

     

    Notably, Angel Canino, Amie Provido, Lyka de Leon, and Shevana Laput all remain eligible for another year, leaving the possibility of a title-defense campaign very much alive.

     

    After La Salle completed its championship conquest against National University Lady Bulldogs in Game 2 of the Finals, Canino revealed that the decision behind the formation came from head coach Ramil de Jesus, adding even more mystery to the plans of the team’s senior stars.

     

    While La Salle’s future remains open-ended, several of the league’s other stars are already preparing to close their collegiate chapters.

    For National University, the season marked the emotional farewell of veteran setter Lams Lamina, who wrapped up her five-year UAAP journey after the Lady Bulldogs settled for runner-up honors against La Salle. Despite falling short in the Finals, Lamina leaves behind a decorated legacy as one of NU’s steady leaders during its recent rise back into contention.

     

    Meanwhile, NU captain Vange Alinsug now finds herself at a major crossroads. The rising star admitted that her next move remains undecided as she weighs two different paths — returning to lead the Lady Bulldogs’ redemption bid in Season 89 or following Lamina into the professional ranks.

     

    The second runner up, University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, is already beginning to take shape.

     

    The Tigresses are set to lose longtime captain and defensive anchor Detdet Pepito after completing her five playing years with the program.

    Still, UST retains a key piece for next season as Regine Jurado committed to stay for her fifth year, giving the Tigresses an experienced presence as they attempt another Final Four push.

     

    Moreover, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons standout Niña Ytang ended her collegiate run by cementing her reputation as one of the league’s premier middle blockers. 

     

    Ytang captured her fourth UAAP Best Middle Blocker award before turning her focus toward the professional ranks and life beyond collegiate volleyball.

    More than just an application process, it marks the gateway for the country’s top amateur standouts to step into the professional spotlight.

     

    This year’s draft isn’t just about filling team rosters, it’s about ushering in the next wave of stars shaped by years of UAAP and collegiate competition.

     

    Prospects now face a structured path to the pros. Applications are being accepted online through the league’s official portal, with hopefuls required to submit complete documentation before the May 22 deadline. 

     

    Eligibility rules remain firm. Applicants must be female at birth as indicated in a PSA-issued birth certificate, and must be at least 21 years old by the end of 2026—unless they have already earned a college degree, which offers an alternate route to qualification.

     

    What follows is a critical stretch that could define careers.

     

    The draft on May 25 will determine which teams hold the power to shape their future rosters. Days later, the Draft Combine from May 28 to 29 becomes the proving ground, where aspiring professionals showcase their skills in front of coaches, scouts, and decision-makers.

    By June 1, the official list of candidates will be finalized, setting the stage for one of the league’s most anticipated offseason events.

     

    Already, familiar names from the collegiate scene are stepping forward. University of the Philippines standout Nina Ytang has declared for the draft after completing five seasons, signaling her readiness to take the next leap. She won’t be alone, with teammate Irah Jaboneta also entering the pool, while Joan Monares continues to weigh her options.
