  • AJ Dybantsa emerges as likely top pick after Wizards win NBA Draft Lottery

AJ Dybantsa emerges as likely top pick after Wizards win NBA Draft Lottery

The Washington Wizards may have found the centerpiece of their rebuild after winning the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery and securing the No. 1 overall pick.

With the top selection now in their hands, all signs point toward AJ Dybantsa, the highly touted BYU Cougars star who has long been viewed as the projected first overall pick in the class.

The 6-foot-9 wing entered college basketball carrying enormous expectations after becoming the consensus No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025 and earning five-star status across all major recruiting platforms.

Dybantsa quickly proved why he was considered one of the best prospects of his generation.

In his lone season at BYU, he averaged a Division I-best 25.5 points per game along with 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field across 35 starts.

His dominant freshman campaign earned him several major honors, including NCAA scoring champion, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, First-Team All-Big 12, and the Julius Erving Award.

What has made Dybantsa especially attractive to NBA scouts is his versatility on both ends of the floor.

Aside from being an elite scorer, he has shown the ability to create off the dribble, facilitate offense, defend multiple positions, and thrive both on and off the ball.

One of his biggest performances came in a rivalry game against Utah, where he exploded for 43 points to break Danny Ainge’s freshman scoring record at BYU.

Before arriving in college, Dybantsa had already built an impressive  résumé as a prep standout. He was a McDonald’s All-American, competed in multiple Nike Hoop Summit events, and led Team USA to the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup title, where he also won tournament MVP honors.

Now, with Washington officially holding the No. 1 pick, Dybantsa appears poised to become the next face of the franchise as the Wizards continue rebuilding for the future.

  • Dallas Mavericks trade Anthony Davis to Washington Wizards in an eight-player blockbuster deal

Dallas Mavericks trade Anthony Davis to Washington Wizards in an eight-player blockbuster deal

The Washington Wizards pulled off a blockbuster move ahead of the NBA trade deadline, acquiring superstar big man Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks in a deal involving eight players and multiple future draft picks—a move that instantly reshapes the Eastern Conference landscape.

The trade was first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN, who took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to break the news:

“The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, 2 first-round picks and 3 second-rounders.”

    Full Trade Breakdown

    Washington Wizards receive:

    • Anthony Davis
    • Jaden Hardy
    • D’Angelo Russell
    • Dante Exum

    Dallas Mavericks receive:

    • Khris Middleton
    • AJ Johnson
    • Malaki Branham
    • Marvin Bagley III
    • 2026 first-round pick from Oklahoma City Thunder
    • 2030 top-20 protected first-round pick from Golden State Warriors
    • 2026 second-round pick from Phoenix Suns
    • 2027 second-round pick from Chicago Bulls
    • 2029 second-round pick from Houston Rockets

The trade marks a new chapter in Davis’ storied career. A 10-time NBA All-Star and one of the premier power forwards of his generation, Davis’ tenure with the Mavericks had been hampered by injuries and inconsistency. The 32-year-old appeared in only 29 games for Dallas, including 20 this season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game—figures below his career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game.

Currently sidelined due to ligament damage in his left hand, Davis is expected to miss a portion of the season but brings a wealth of experience and championship pedigree to Washington. He is owed $58.5 million next season, with a player option for $62.8 million in 2027–28, and will be eligible for a contract extension starting in August.

Davis’ NBA journey began as the first overall pick by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2012 NBA Draft. After seven seasons in New Orleans, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019, where he won the 2020 NBA Championship and later added the 2023 NBA Cup to his resume. Among his many accolades, Davis was named MVP of the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, is a three-time NBA blocks leader, and has been honored with 10 All-Star selections, cementing his legacy as one of the premier big men of his generation.

The trade also highlights the Mavericks’ ongoing rebuilding efforts, as Dallas parts with a veteran superstar in exchange for a mix of young talent and future draft capital, while the Wizards signal their intent to contend in the Eastern Conference by pairing Davis with their existing core.

For Washington, Davis’ arrival provides a transformative presence on both ends of the floor. Known for his defensive dominance, rim protection, and versatile scoring ability, he is expected to immediately bolster the Wizards’ frontcourt and mentor younger players in the organization.

As the league processes one of the most significant trades of the season, all eyes will be on Davis’ return from injury and how quickly he can integrate into a Wizards team eager to make a push for the playoffs. With his combination of skill, experience, and championship pedigree, Anthony Davis’ move to Washington could redefine the team’s trajectory and alter the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

  • Hawks ship Trae Young to Washington for CJ McCollum

Hawks ship Trae Young to Washington for CJ McCollum

The Trae Young era in Atlanta has come to an end.

The Atlanta Hawks have traded Young to the Washington Wizards in exchange for veteran CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, NBA insider Shams Charania just announced.

Young’s departure comes after Charania announced earlier this week that the Hawks are exploring trade options for the guard ahead of the trade deadline.

The Hawks currently sit at 10th in the Eastern conference standings with a 17-21 record, and have been prioritizing the development of former top overall pick Zacharie Rissacher, alongside Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels.

Young last played for Atlanta last December and has been tallying subpar averages this season with 19.3 points and 8.9 assists per game.

Meanwhile, McCollum, 34, has continued to be a lethal scorer so far, averaging 18.8 points per game, while also being better on the defensive end than Young.

The Wizards, who boast a record of 10-26 and sit at the bottom of the standings, are centering their future around Young and former top pick Alexander Sarr.
