    The Philippine Blu Girls made sure to leave Lima with momentum.

     

    After battling through a challenging field at the 2026 Women’s Softball World Cup, the Filipinas wrapped up their campaign in emphatic fashion, overwhelming host Peru, 13-0, in just four innings on Sunday to finish fifth in the group phase.

     

    Powering the statement victory once again was Charlotte Sales, who stayed red-hot at the plate by blasting her second consecutive home run and delivering another standout all-around performance.

     

    The Blu Girls wasted no time taking control, producing one of their most explosive offensive innings of the tournament by scoring all 13 runs in the opening frame.

     

    The relentless barrage featured six singles, two doubles, and Sales’ towering three-run blast to deep left field, while Peru struggled to slow the Philippine attack after committing two costly errors and issuing two walks along with a hit batter.

     

    Sales’ homer, which brought home Angelu Gabriel and team captain Cheska Altomonte, quickly stretched the lead to 6-0 and set the tone for the rout.

     

    The University of Santo Tomas standout continued to punish Peru’s pitching later in the inning, driving in another run with an RBI double to dead center as the Blu Girls kept the pressure on from start to finish.

    Inside the circle, Kikay Palma matched the offense with a commanding performance of her own.

    The right-hander fired a complete-game two-hitter, allowing only two hits across four innings to preserve the shutout and prevent Peru from mounting any response.

     

    Sales capped her tournament on a high note with a perfect 3-for-3 outing, finishing with a stellar .462 batting average as one of the Philippines’ most consistent offensive performers throughout the competition at the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Complex.

     

    While the Blu Girls’ campaign ended short of a place in next year’s finals, the tournament continued later in the day with defending champion and world No. 1 Japan booking its return to the 2027 Women’s Softball World Cup Finals after edging Puerto Rico, 2-1.

     

    Puerto Rico later secured the other qualifying spot from the group by defeating Venezuela, 8-1 in the repechage round.

     

    The top two teams from each of the three groups advance to the 2027 Women’s Softball World Cup Finals in Australia, with two additional wildcard berths still up for grabs.

    For the Philippine women’s national softball team, the road to softball’s biggest stage has just taken a dramatic turn.

     

    After narrowly missing direct qualification from the Asia Cup, the Philippines has been handed a wildcard entry into the Group Stage of the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup. The governing body, the World Baseball Softball Confederation, confirmed the Blu Girls will replace Uganda — who failed to meet the Participation Agreement deadline — for the event set July 14–18, 2026 in Lima, Peru.

     

    The wildcard couldn’t come at a more strategic moment. This edition of the World Cup isn’t just about global prestige — it’s the first major stepping stone in the qualification process for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

     

    In Group Lima, the Blu Girls will face a gauntlet of elite competition: world No. 1 Japan, No. 3 Puerto Rico, No. 12 Great Britain, No. 16 Venezuela, and host Peru (No. 18). Only the top two teams will advance to the World Cup Finals in 2027, where Olympic berths are first awarded.

    This will mark the country’s ninth all-time World Cup appearance and the second straight after initially missing out at the Asia Cup.

    The wildcard opportunity arrives on the heels of a standout 2025 campaign.
