    Named in the Starting XI, the Filipino-American midfielder needed just six minutes to introduce himself, striking the opening goal and putting the Philippines in control early. From that moment, the match not only became a dominant performance for the home side but also a breakthrough stage for one of the team’s newest additions.

    Beyond the goal, Mrowka’s debut was also part of a wider team performance that saw the Philippines control proceedings and secure a comfortable victory to start their Tri-Nations campaign on a strong note.

     

    The midfielder described the win as an important step in preparation for tougher challenges ahead, including their next match in the series.

     

    “It’s important. We knew like it’s a result that we should have. But you still have to do the steps to get there at the end of the day. It’s important and it’s a good building block into a tougher opponent. And you know we’ll see what happens,” Mrowka said.

     

    Despite only recently joining the squad, Mrowka noted how quickly he has begun adjusting to the system, crediting senior players in midfield for helping him settle in.

     

    “My first three training sessions and now a game. So it’s difficult when you haven’t played with people before so you kinda have to build those connections on the pitch,” he explained.

     

    “There’s obviously a lot of experience especially with the midfield, with Sandro and all of them. So they’ve been giving me their advice. And honestly the support they’ve given me is very easy,” he shared.

     

    Mrowka, who has been part of MLS club Columbus Crew since 2024 and spent time on loan with Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the USL Championship, now turns his attention to building on his debut.

     

    The Philippines will continue their Tri-Nations campaign on June 9 against Myanmar at the same venue, where Mrowka is expected to have another opportunity to contribute.

    The 2026 FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers have quickly turned into a two-team race, and the stage is now set for a winner-take-all showdown.


    Gilas Pilipinas Girls continued their commanding run in the regional tournament after dismantling Thailand, 86-48, on Thursday at the STI West Negros University Gym in Bacolod, extending their unbeaten streak to three games and moving within one win of the SEABA crown.

     

    With Indonesia also preserving its spotless record earlier in the day, Saturday’s meeting between the two squads will determine the tournament champion and the region’s representative moving forward.

     

    The Filipinas have barely been challenged throughout the competition. They opened with a 93-42 demolition of Vietnam before dispatching Singapore, 83-53. Against Thailand, Gilas delivered perhaps its most complete performance yet, seizing control from the opening minutes and never allowing the Thais any chance to recover.

     

    Lea Pinuela spearheaded the balanced attack with 16 points on 50-percent shooting while adding five rebounds and two assists. Ruiza Olmos made the most of her limited floor time, scoring 11 points on a perfect shooting night in just 13 minutes.

    The Indonesians rolled past Vietnam, 81-32, to improve to 2-0 and keep pace with the Philippines atop the standings.

     

    Richelle Widjaja scored 14 points to lead Indonesia, while Mabekou Talla Valerie posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Praisey Blessed delivered an all-around effort with eight points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

     

    Vietnam absorbed its second straight defeat and slipped to 1-2. With both contenders yet to taste defeat and each winning its games by wide margins, Saturday’s clash between Gilas Pilipinas Girls and Indonesia promises to be the defining game of the tournament.

    The former Adamson Lady Falcons standout, Barbie Jamili became Creamline’s lone selection at No. 8 overall, creating an intriguing connection between two generations of Adamson outside hitters Jamili and veteran star Jema Galanza.


    For years, Galanza has been one of the faces of Creamline’s dynasty. Now, Jamili arrives with many fans already drawing comparisons between the two, citing their shared Adamson roots, athletic playing styles, and ability to energize supporters on and off the court.

     

    The similarities have not gone unnoticed, but for Jamili, the opportunity to become teammates with Galanza is still difficult to believe.

    While Jamili is only beginning her professional journey, Galanza is already looking forward to helping the rookie navigate the challenges that come with joining one of the PVL’s deepest and most competitive rosters.

     

    “Super excited talaga ako lalo na yung dumagdag na outside hitter is from Adamson, na-excite ako sa kung anong kaya kong maitulong sa kanya,” Galanza said.

    For Galanza, Jamili’s arrival is particularly meaningful because it brings another Adamson-developed outside hitter into the Creamline system—a position the team has not replenished through the draft in quite some time.

     

    “Kasi sobrang tagal bago nagkaroon ulit ng outside hitter. Hindi ko rin alam kung ano pa yung maibibigay ko sa kanya pero excited lang ako na makasama sila sa training,” she added.

     

    The mentor-mentee dynamic could prove valuable as Jamili adjusts to the professional level. Despite being one of the most promising prospects in the draft, the rookie understands that opportunities will have to be earned on a roster filled with established stars.

     

    Rather than focusing on playing time, Jamili is embracing the chance to learn from veterans like Galanza, who once made the same transition from Adamson standout to Creamline champion.

     

    “Ibibigay ko lang best ko kung ano meron ako and I’m willing to learn sa bagong team ko ngayon and sa ates ko,” Jamili said. 

     

    Jamili enters the PVL with impressive credentials. During the Draft Combine, she showcased elite athleticism by posting the fastest Pro Agility 5-10-5 time at 5.109 seconds, recording the best Hop Test mark at 3.36 m/s, and leading the 10-meter sprint with a time of 1.759 seconds.

     

    Those numbers helped elevate her draft stock and convinced Creamline to invest in her potential.

     

    Now, Jamili’s next chapter begins alongside a player many believe she could someday emulate. Whether the comparisons to Galanza grow stronger remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, the former Adamson star will have one of the best mentors in the league guiding her through the transition.

     

    For Creamline, the addition of Jamili is about more than adding another talented rookie. It is the continuation of a successful pipeline that has already produced one franchise icon—and perhaps, in time, could produce another.

    TNT Tropang 5G’s import Bol Manute was nowhere near the hardwood on Wednesday night, but his presence was impossible to miss.


    As TNT opened its PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup Finals series against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the team carried a visible reminder of the import who helped bring them to the championship stage.

     

    Each TNT player took the floor wearing a white jersey adorned with a yellow No. 1 patch—a tribute to Bol’s jersey number and a symbol that the injured reinforcement remains very much part of the team’s title pursuit.

     

    For TNT guard Jordan Heading, the gesture was about recognizing the impact Bol made before a devastating injury cut his conference short.

     

    “I think it was just carryong Bol along with us for the series,” Heading told reporters after the game.

     

    “Really meant a lot to us that he came out here to the Philippines and was part of our journey. And he’s stil a part of our journey, so we just wanted to have him here with us that way.”

     

    Bol’s Finals dream came to an abrupt halt during Game 2 of TNT’s semifinal series against the Meralco Bolts when he suffered a partial Achilles tear on a non-contact play. The injury ultimately required surgery, which team manager Jojo Lastimosa confirmed was completed just a few days ago.

    Before his season-ending setback, Bol had established himself as one of the conference’s most dominant imports.

     

    The 7-foot-3 reinforcement averaged 35.8 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, serving as a cornerstone of TNT’s campaign and helping propel the franchise back into the championship round.

     

    His injury forced the Tropang 5G into an unexpected mid-playoff adjustment, leading the team to sign former PBA import Chris McCullough in an effort to defend its Commissioner’s Cup crown.

    While Bol’s contributions can no longer come through points, rebounds, or blocked shots, TNT’s tribute served as a reminder that his influence on the team extends beyond the box score.

     

    As the Tropang 5G prepare for a crucial Game 2 on Friday at Smart Araneta Coliseum, they will once again be chasing a championship with one of their most important players watching from afar—but still very much part of the journey.

    The Akari Chargers walked away from the 2026 PVL Rookie Draft without a single rookie addition.

    In one of the draft’s biggest surprises on Wednesday, Akari chose to pass on its No. 5 overall pick and ultimately did not select any player despite holding both first- and second-round selections.


    The decision immediately surrounded questions especially after four highly regarded prospects came off the board before Akari’s turn. Setter Camilla Lamina went first overall to the Galeries Tower Highrisers, while libero Detdet Pepito was selected second by Capital1. Also chosen ahead of the Chargers were Tin Ubaldo and Nicole Ong.

     

    For Akari assistant coach Eddieson Orcullo, however, the move was the result of a clear draft strategy rather than a lack of available selections.

     

    “Actually meron. May first and second, kaya lang talagang dumating lang sa point na hindi namin [nakuha],” Orcullo said after the draft.

     

    The Chargers had identified specific players they believed could immediately address their needs, and once those targets were gone, the organization decided against making a selection simply for the sake of adding a rookie.

     

    “Siguro ‘yung dalawa na ‘yun talaga ang kailangan talaga ng team natin, pero dahil nga napunta sa naunang team na mag-select, kaya we decided to pass na rin.”

    The two players Orcullo referred to were Lamina and Pepito, both of whom were taken before Akari’s No. 5 selection.

     

    Rather than scrambling for an alternative option, the Chargers chose discipline over urgency. According to Orcullo, the coaching staff and management were united in the decision.

     

    “‘Yung management at si coach Tina (Salak), ‘yung coaches actually nakapag-usap naman kami regarding dun kaya so far okay naman kami dun sa result na nangyari tonight,” he said. 

     

    Akari still had other prospects on its draft board, but the organization remained firm in its evaluation process.

     

    “Meron pero ‘yung dalawang tao sila dapat na makukuha namin pero dahil nga wala dun na nag-pass na rin,” the veteran FEU coach said. 

     

    The Chargers enter the new season with one of the league’s deepest cores already intact. 

     

    Leading the roster are established standouts Ivy Lacsina, Fifi Sharma, Grethcel Soltones, and Ced Domingo, while offseason acquisition Tin Tiamzon adds another experienced option to the lineup.

     

    Instead of introducing a rookie into the mix, Akari is doubling down on chemistry, familiarity, and a group that has already spent time building its identity together.

    The FIFA World Cup trophy made a stop in New York on Tuesday as part of the Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup 2026 Trophy Tour, giving fans a chance to see football’s biggest prize up close ahead of next year’s tournament.


    Germany World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger joined New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at the American Museum of Natural History for the unveiling.

     

    One of the few people allowed to lift the trophy, Schweinsteiger held and kissed the prize he won when Germany defeated Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final.

     

    The former Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Chicago Fire midfielder said seeing the trophy again gave him “goosebumps” and highlighted how difficult it is to win football’s biggest honor.

     

    He also believes the tour can inspire young players by allowing them to see the trophy in person.

    “Let’s go Germany,” Schweinsteiger said as he lifted the trophy.

     

    The event also underscored New York’s role in the 2026 World Cup, with the New York/New Jersey area set to host eight matches, including the final, from June 13 to July 19.

    Rey Nambatac delivered a strong fourth-quarter push, but it wasn’t enough as TNT Tropang 5G dropped a narrow 102-100 decision to Barangay Ginebra in Game 1 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.


    While Ginebra took the early advantage in the series, much of the late-game momentum belonged to TNT’s guard, who helped turn what had been an 18-point deficit into a tense finish.

     

    Nambatac finished with 19 points, three rebounds, and three assists, with 13 of those points coming in the fourth quarter as he orchestrated TNT’s comeback attempt. 

     

    His scoring burst helped the Tropang 5G seize control briefly, taking a 95-90 lead with 3:06 remaining.

     

    The rally put TNT in position to steal Game 1 on the road, with Nambatac at the center of the offensive surge.

     

    Despite the loss, the former Finals MVP against Ginebra said the matchup carried added motivation for him.

     

    “I won Finals MVP last year so that doesn’t mean they’ll leave me alone. They made some adjustments on me and it had some good outcomes,” he said.

     

    “I was limited in the first half but it’s extra motivation for me that I won a Finals MVP against Ginebra (last year).”

    He also emphasized TNT’s ability to compete despite the result.

     

    “I don’t have any regrets because we gave them a good fight and we gave the fans a show. Actually, this is what I wanted, to have my rhythm, timing and confidence. After some three-point shots, I struggled again but personally, my rhythm and timing are there,” Nambatac said.

     

    Ginebra, coached by Tim Cone, managed to weather TNT’s late surge in the final minutes. Cone’s squad leaned on Justin Brownlee for steady production and RJ Abarrientos for the decisive plays down the stretch. 

     

    Abarrientos connected on back-to-back four-point plays in the last 91 seconds, swinging the lead back to Ginebra and sealing the 102-100 victory.

     

    The result gave Ginebra a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, despite TNT’s strong finish by Nambatac.

     

    Game 2 is set at 7:30PM on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where Nambatac and his squad will look to build on its late-game adjustments and avoid falling into an early series hole.
