The Philippine Men’s National Football Team wasted no time setting the tone in the PFF Tri-Nations Friendlies, opening their campaign with a commanding 5-1 win over Guam on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium and the night marked a memorable introduction for newcomer Cole Mrowka, who made an immediate impact in his first appearance for the national side.
Named in the Starting XI, the Filipino-American midfielder needed just six minutes to introduce himself, striking the opening goal and putting the Philippines in control early. From that moment, the match not only became a dominant performance for the home side but also a breakthrough stage for one of the team’s newest additions.
For Mrowka, the debut carried more than just statistical significance—it came with the atmosphere of a home crowd and the pressure of expectations that he quickly turned into motivation.
“Scoring goals is always fun but when you hear the crowd, cheer in that way, it’s amazing,” Mrowka said.
The 20-year-old midfielder emphasized that while scoring was a special moment, his focus remains on fitting into the team’s system and building chemistry with his new teammates.
“Obviously as a team you know you want to win. The goal always when you step on the field is to win. I would say, personal goal is to just play well and combine with my teammates. And kind of build those connections,” he added.

Beyond the goal, Mrowka’s debut was also part of a wider team performance that saw the Philippines control proceedings and secure a comfortable victory to start their Tri-Nations campaign on a strong note.
The midfielder described the win as an important step in preparation for tougher challenges ahead, including their next match in the series.
“It’s important. We knew like it’s a result that we should have. But you still have to do the steps to get there at the end of the day. It’s important and it’s a good building block into a tougher opponent. And you know we’ll see what happens,” Mrowka said.
Despite only recently joining the squad, Mrowka noted how quickly he has begun adjusting to the system, crediting senior players in midfield for helping him settle in.
“My first three training sessions and now a game. So it’s difficult when you haven’t played with people before so you kinda have to build those connections on the pitch,” he explained.
“There’s obviously a lot of experience especially with the midfield, with Sandro and all of them. So they’ve been giving me their advice. And honestly the support they’ve given me is very easy,” he shared.
Mrowka, who has been part of MLS club Columbus Crew since 2024 and spent time on loan with Colorado Springs Switchbacks in the USL Championship, now turns his attention to building on his debut.
The Philippines will continue their Tri-Nations campaign on June 9 against Myanmar at the same venue, where Mrowka is expected to have another opportunity to contribute.
