  • Arwind Santos open to PBA comeback at 44 — but only if he’s playing, not cheering

Arwind Santos open to PBA comeback at 44 — but only if he’s playing, not cheering

For a player who spent nearly two decades soaring above the rim and winning championships, the competitive fire still burns in Arwind Santos. Even at 44 years old, the former Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player admitted that a return to the league he once dominated remains a possibility. When asked about the idea of suiting up again, the veteran forward did not hesitate with his response.

“Oo naman. Open ako,” Santos said when asked if he still considers making a comeback to the PBA.

The conversation resurfaced after Santos reminded fans that he still has something left in the tank during the side events of the league’s Season 50 All-Star Weekend. Playing for the Rookies/Sophomores squad in an exhibition matchup at Candon City Arena, the veteran forward showed he could still keep pace with younger players and make his presence felt on the court.

Nicknamed “Spiderman” during his prime years, Santos nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds while helping steer the Rookies/Sophomores to a high-scoring 154-150 victory over the Juniors side. He also provided leadership and stability down the stretch before coach Dayong Mendoza called him back to the bench in the final five minutes of the contest.

His performance even put him in consideration for the exhibition game’s MVP award before the honor eventually went to sophomore guard Jerom Lastimosa. For Santos, however, the recognition that mattered most came from younger players who told him he could still compete at the professional level.

“Sabi nga nila, puwede ka pa, e,” Santos recalled. “But it’s up to you guys.”

While the encouragement was flattering, the former MVP made it clear that he would only consider a return under one condition. Santos stressed that if he ever steps back into the PBA court, it would not be merely as a veteran presence on the bench.

“Sabi ko sa kanila (teammates), kung maglalaro ako, ayoko yung papalakpak lang sa bench. Gusto ko maglalaro ako,” Santos said. “Hindi ako pupunta (sa game) para mag-cheer lang.”

Few players in league history possess a résumé as decorated as Santos’. Selected second overall in the 2006 draft by the Air21 Express, he later built a legendary run with the San Miguel Beermen, where he captured all nine of his championships between 2011 and 2019.

Santos also played a crucial role in San Miguel’s dominant “Death Five” lineup alongside Marcio Lassiter, Chris Ross, Alex Cabagnot, and nine-time MVP June Mar Fajardo. That core powered the Beermen to five consecutive Philippine Cup titles and cemented one of the most dominant dynasties in league history.

Now several years removed from those championship runs, Santos is not making any guarantees about a return. But after showing flashes of his old form on the All-Star stage, the door for one more chapter in his PBA journey remains slightly open — provided he gets the chance to truly play.

  • PLDT stays grounded despite rise to top of PVL All-Filipino standings

PLDT stays grounded despite rise to top of PVL All-Filipino standings

Sitting alone at the top of the standings could easily tempt a team to start looking ahead.

But for Rald Ricafort, staying grounded remains the priority as the PLDT High Speed Hitters continue their impressive run in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

PLDT currently holds a 6-1 record with only two matches left in the preliminary round, putting the High Speed Hitters in a strong position to secure a place in the league’s four-team qualifying round. A single victory in their remaining games would be enough to clinch that opportunity, where an outright semifinals berth will be on the line.

Despite the favorable scenario, Ricafort has made it clear he wants his squad to stay away from unnecessary attention and expectations.

“Wini-wish namin na umabot kami ng top 4, pero para isipin pa namin, parang dagdag pressure pa, dagdag hype na naman na hindi naman kailangan,” said Ricafort.

“Kung ano ‘yung next na kalaban namin, dapat du’n lang mag-focus.”

It’s a mindset that mirrors Ricafort’s approach during PLDT’s championship surge last season, when the team quietly built momentum before eventually claiming titles in the PVL on Tour and the Invitational Conference.

For the coach, consistency and focus remain far more important than standings at this stage of the tournament.

OKBET is Asia’s most trusted and popular online sports gaming platform. Visit us on OKBET to stay up to date with all sports news from around the world.

The current format of the conference also demands that teams remain sharp. Even after meeting in the preliminary round, squads could face each other again later in the competition, meaning every game can serve as preparation for a potential rematch.

“At the same time, hindi porket nakalaban na namin, kakalimutan na namin ‘yung mga natutunan dahil may chance na makalaban namin sila ulit kaya every game ay very important pa rin,” he added.

PLDT still faces two crucial tests to close the elimination round, beginning with a clash against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans before taking on the Nxled Chameleons.

Both matches carry weight as the High Speed Hitters aim to secure their spot in the next phase of the tournament while keeping their rhythm intact heading into the more demanding rounds.

Ricafort, however, prefers that his players keep their focus on the immediate challenge rather than the bigger picture.

“‘Yung feeling, hindi nga ‘yung malapit na matapos ‘yung elims kasi ang bibigat pa ng remaining games namin,” said Ricafort.

“Sabi nga namin sa players, mahirap nga tumingin nang sobrang layo at one game at a time lang talaga. Happy kami na nairaos namin ‘to ngayon kasi sabak agad ulit kami sa Sabado.”

For PLDT, the message is clear: the standings may look good, but the real work is far from over.

  • Bam Adebayo drops 83, passes Kobe Bryant in historic NBA scoring night

Bam Adebayo drops 83, passes Kobe Bryant in historic NBA scoring night

For Bam Adebayo, Tuesday night felt like something straight out of a dream

The Miami Heat star delivered one of the most astonishing scoring explosions the league has ever seen, pouring in 83 points in a dominant showing against the Washington Wizards.

From the opening minutes, it was clear Adebayo was in a different rhythm. He erupted for 31 points in the first quarter alone, setting the tone for a performance that quickly turned historic as the night unfolded.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, Adebayo had carved his name into the record books with the second-highest scoring game in NBA history, trailing only the legendary 100-point masterpiece by Wilt Chamberlain.

In doing so, Adebayo also surpassed the iconic 81-point performance posted by Kobe Bryant in 2006 — a moment that carried special meaning for the Heat big man, who grew up idolizing the late Los Angeles Lakers superstar.

Speaking after the game, Adebayo admitted the magnitude of the moment hadn’t fully sunk in yet.

“To me, it’s wondering what he would say seeing somebody score 83. Obviously, you’ve seen 60, 70, but to be at 83 and pass him— in my mind it’s like, ‘What would he say to me?’ I’ve always wanted to have a conversation with him, but he’d probably say, ‘Do it again,’ ” Adebayo said.

“It’s just a surreal moment being in the company of somebody you idolized growing up.”

Bryant’s 81-point game had stood as the highest-scoring performance in the modern NBA era for nearly two decades, a mark that seemed untouchable for many players.

Yet on this night, Adebayo pushed beyond it.

As the magnitude of the achievement became clear, the Heat star reflected on the surreal company he now shares in the league’s history books.

“This is a special moment. It’s Wilt, me, and Kobe —which sounds crazy,” Adebayo said.

And for one unforgettable night, Adebayo didn’t just have the game of his life — he joined one of the most exclusive clubs basketball has ever known.

  • Dwight Ramos leads Levanga Hokkaido sweep of Kiefer Ravena’s Yokohama as B.League playoff race heats up

Dwight Ramos leads Levanga Hokkaido sweep of Kiefer Ravena’s Yokohama as B.League playoff race heats up

Dwight Ramos and Levanga Hokkaido strengthened their postseason push after completing a weekend sweep of Kiefer Ravena and the Yokohama B-Corsairs in the B.League.

Ramos delivered a steady all-around effort on Sunday, finishing with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 24 minutes as Levanga cruised to a 92-72 victory at Yokohama Arena.

The win completed a two-game set dominated by Hokkaido, which also escaped with a narrow 100-98 victory the night before.

Ramos was particularly instrumental in the opener, scoring 16 points while adding three assists, a steal and a block in a matchup that featured a head-to-head duel with Ravena, who poured in 19 markers despite the loss.

The pair are key figures for Philippines men’s national basketball team, and their clash added extra intrigue to the weekend series.

The back-to-back victories were crucial for Levanga, which had struggled in recent weeks before regaining momentum.

With the sweep, Hokkaido improved to 29-12 and moved into a three-way tie for second place in the Eastern Conference alongside the Alvark Tokyo and the Chiba Jets.

Other Gilas-linked players also made contributions in Sunday’s slate.

AJ Edu helped the Gunma Crane Thunders secure a convincing 92-68 victory over the Kyoto Hannaryz at Openhouse Arena Ota.

Edu finished with six points, five rebounds, four assists and a block as Gunma improved to 25-16.

Meanwhile, Quentin Millora-Brown chipped in five points and three rebounds to help the Chiba Jets roll past Ray Parks Jr. and the Osaka Evessa, 94-78, at Ookini Arena Maishima.

Parks paced Osaka with 20 points, but the defeat dropped the club to 15-26.

Kai Sotto also found himself on the losing end as the Koshigaya Alphas absorbed a heavy 99-65 loss to the Hiroshima Dragonflies.

Recently back from an ACL injury and fresh off joining the league’s 1,000-point club, Sotto logged eight points and four rebounds in 25 minutes.

Another Filipino prospect, Francis Lopez, also endured a tough outing after the Nagoya Fighting Eagles fell 91-69 to the San-En NeoPhoenix.

The former University of the Philippines standout tallied five points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks, though Nagoya slipped to 15-26.

With the B.League regular season entering its crucial stretch, Filipino players continue to play key roles across several teams — none more impactful over the weekend than Ramos, whose performance helped Levanga keep its playoff hopes firmly on track.

  • Rivalry lives on: Jema Galanza, Tots Carlos say Nxled clash felt like old Creamline–Petro Gazz battles

Rivalry lives on: Jema Galanza, Tots Carlos say Nxled clash felt like old Creamline–Petro Gazz battles

The uniforms may have changed, but for the Creamline Cool Smashers, the feeling of facing familiar rivals remains exactly the same.

That sentiment echoed loudly after Creamline survived the Nxled Chameleons in a gripping five-set battle in the Premier Volleyball League — a match that many inside the court felt resembled the old Creamline–Petro Gazz Angels wars.

Now wearing Nxled colors, former Angels standouts Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, MJ Phillips and Jonah Sabete brought the same intensity that once fueled some of the league’s most memorable showdowns.

For Jema Galanza, the matchup stirred a mix of emotions — excitement, nerves, and the thrill of facing opponents who always push Creamline to its limits.

“Ako, ang daming feelings,” Galanza admitted. “Excited na may kaba, na nacha-challenge kasi maganda silang kalaban. Sobrang ganda nilang kalaban — yung kailangan mong mag-isip, hindi ka lang basta papalo, hindi lang basta ipapasok. Alam mo ‘yon, kailangan mong mag-isip.”

Creamline grabbed a 2-1 lead, but Nxled responded with a dominant fourth set to send the match into a winner-take-all fifth frame.

When the pressure mounted, the Cool Smashers leaned on their experience to steady themselves and eventually pull away for the 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10 victory.

“Nacha-challenge din yung composure namin. And ngayon, yun talaga yung nagpanalo sa’min,” Galanza said.

The veteran outside hitter delivered a strong all-around effort with 19 points, along with 10 excellent receptions and six excellent digs, taking home the Player of the Game in the clash.

For Tots Carlos, the match also carried extra meaning.

Returning from a knee injury that sidelined her for much of last season, the three-time league MVP welcomed the chance to test Creamline’s composure in a high-pressure scenario — particularly against a group of players who have been part of many heated battles with the Cool Smashers.

“Siguro like what I said kanina, more of excitement kasi nga ako personally, meron akong sariling goal and sariling reason going to the game,” The PVL Player of the Week Carlos shared.

“Ako, natuwa ako na na-experience namin ‘yung ganong scenario na kasi nga sila coach, laging sinasabi na pag sumobra naman kami sa gigil, hindi makakatulong sa amin. Composure lang talaga, and ‘yun nga, trabaho lang.”

The result ultimately reinforced what both Galanza and Carlos already knew.

Even if the old Petro Gazz core now wears Nxled jerseys, the rivalry that once defined their matchups is still very much alive — only this time, it has simply taken on a new name.

  • Philippines to host inaugural SEA Plus Youth Games in 2027 to boost grassroots sports

Philippines to host inaugural SEA Plus Youth Games in 2027 to boost grassroots sports

The Philippines is set to take another step in strengthening its grassroots sports program after officials confirmed the country will stage the inaugural Southeast Asian Plus Youth Games in 2027.

The landmark event, scheduled from December 2 to 14, 2027, was formally introduced on Monday by Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and Patrick “Pato” Gregorio, who both see the tournament as a crucial addition to the country’s youth development pathway.

Tolentino, who also serves as founding president of the new regional meet, said the Philippines will take on the responsibility of hosting the first edition as the concept begins its rollout across Asia.

“As founding president of the SEAG Plus Youth Games, we will be hosting the first edition of the event,” Tolentino said during a press briefing at the PSC Media Center.

The idea for the tournament was first proposed by Tolentino to officials within the Southeast Asian Games community and eventually gained approval during a ratification and solidarity meeting held during the Thailand SEA Games last December.

Beyond staging another international competition, organizers say the new youth meet is designed to strengthen the long-term pipeline of Filipino athletes.

Gregorio, who was appointed head of the Local Organizing Committee, believes the initiative fits naturally with the Philippine Sports Commission’s renewed emphasis on developing young talent.

“It’s a great idea. In fact, it’s an excellent idea. It’s for the development of the country’s grassroots. Mag-align ito sa Palarong Pambansa and Batang Pinoy. Siyempre, shoot na shoot din ito sa programa nating sports tourism. This is really very good,” Gregorio said.

The tournament will mirror the structure of the SEA Games by gathering athletes from the region’s 11 other Southeast Asian nations, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

OKBET is Asia’s most trusted and popular online sports gaming platform. Visit us on OKBET to stay up to date with all sports news from around the world.

However, organizers plan to broaden the competition’s scope by inviting several additional Asian countries, turning the youth meet into a wider regional showcase. Nations such as Bahrain, Bhutan, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Nepal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Turkmenistan are being considered for participation.

The proposed sports program will combine traditional Olympic disciplines and regional favorites.

Mandatory events will include aquatics and athletics, while other Olympic sports under consideration include triathlon, judo, boxing, golf, skateboarding, wrestling, fencing, basketball, tennis, and gymnastics.

Several non-Olympic competitions — including jiu-jitsu, billiards, dance sports, and mixed martial arts — are also expected to be featured, alongside the Philippines’ traditional martial art, arnis.

Multiple venues are being eyed for the tournament, with competitions planned at the SMX Convention Center and the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Aquatics and athletics events, meanwhile, are expected to take place at the world-class facilities in New Clark City Aquatics Center and the nearby track oval in Capas, Tarlac.

For Tolentino, hosting the new youth tournament is also an opportunity for the Philippines to once again demonstrate its capability as a regional sports host — something the country showcased during the 2019 SEA Games.

“After the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, now is the time na ipakita ulit natin ang pagho-host,” Tolentino said.

“Tulung-tulong po tayo dito dahil ang hosting ng bansa natin ang nakataya dito.”

  • Alas Women teammates Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura set for UAAP showdown as La Salle faces Adamson

Alas Women teammates Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura set for UAAP showdown as La Salle faces Adamson

Two of the brightest young stars in Philippine volleyball will momentarily set aside their national team camaraderie when De La Salle Lady Spikers and Adamson Lady Falcons collide in a highly anticipated showdown on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The matchup carries an added layer of intrigue as national teammates Angel Canino and Shaina Nitura find themselves on opposite sides of the net.

Both players have been part of the pool for Alas Pilipinas women’s national volleyball team in recent international competitions and preparations for the Southeast Asian Games, sharing the same wing-spiker rotation that features some of the country’s most promising talents.

But on Wednesday, their focus shifts back to collegiate rivalries.

La Salle enters the clash riding a five-game winning streak after dismantling the UE Lady Warriors, while Adamson gained a surge of confidence following a stunning straight-sets upset of the UST Golden Tigresses.

The victories only intensified anticipation for what many expect to be one of the marquee matches of the round.

Canino, the former Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player who powered La Salle to the Season 85 title, remains the cornerstone of the Lady Spikers’ title defense.

Known for her explosive attacking and all-around presence, she continues to anchor the Taft-based squad alongside returning captain Shevana Laput.

OKBET is Asia’s most trusted and popular online sports gaming platform. Visit us on OKBET to stay up to date with all sports news from around the world.

Nitura, meanwhile, has quickly established herself as one of the most dangerous scorers in the collegiate ranks.

The Adamson standout captured the Rookie of the Year honors in Season 87 after a historic freshman campaign that included a UAAP-record 38-point performance and a league-leading scoring output for the season.

Both stars also showcased their talent on the international stage as members of Alas Pilipinas, where the next generation of Filipina spikers is being groomed to lead the national program in upcoming regional tournaments.

Now, however, they will stand on opposite sides of the court with their respective teams looking to strengthen their Final Four push.

La Salle may hold the momentum, but the Lady Spikers know better than to underestimate an Adamson squad energized by its recent breakthrough performance.

“Actually, these kids relaxed so we had to remind them to treat UE with respect,” La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo said after their latest win. “They should treat their opponents with respect every time.”

Canino herself acknowledged that the Lady Spikers still have plenty to clean up despite their winning run.

“Our errors, as a team, were so evident,” she said. “That’s what gave UE their confidence, so we tried avoiding those.”

Adamson coach JP Yude, meanwhile, praised the collective effort that led to the Lady Falcons’ morale-boosting victory over UST.

“All of them contributed and they always followed our instructions,” Yude said. “Overall, I’m very glad and proud of how they played today because this is what we’ve been looking for from them.”

With both teams coming off statement wins and their young stars in top form, Wednesday’s duel promises more than just another entry in the standings.

For Canino and Nitura, it will be a friendly rivalry — one where teammates in national colors temporarily become fierce competitors under the bright lights of the UAAP.

  • Nick Demusis’ wife disputes apology claim, says Romero never made amends after Dubai incident

Nick Demusis’ wife disputes apology claim, says Romero never made amends after Dubai incident

The fallout from the Dubai altercation involving Nick Demusis and former Meralco import Ismael Romero took another turn on Monday after the Fil-American player’s camp disputed claims that the issue had already been settled.

Demusis’ wife, Rizza Diaz, broke her silence through a lengthy social media post, insisting that Romero never apologized to her husband — contradicting earlier remarks from Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo.

The clarification came a day after reports surfaced that Meralco had decided to move on from Romero as its import for the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

“I am making this statement to provide clarification after Trillo declared in a radio show that Romero already apologized to Demusis in Dubai and that the information was unreported in the media,” Diaz wrote.

“This is not the case,” she added.

According to Diaz, the only interaction between Romero and Demusis happened inside a Dubai police headquarters after the Zamboanga Valientes guard filed a complaint stemming from the incident.

During that meeting, Demusis sought both an apology and compensation for medical expenses as well as the games he missed while recovering from the injuries he sustained.

Diaz claimed that while a verbal settlement had been discussed, Romero failed to follow through.

She said a face-to-face meeting was scheduled later that night at a hotel in Dubai, but Romero allegedly left the country for Manila before it could happen.

Another attempt to arrange a meeting in the Philippines with the help of Meralco officials also fell through after Romero departed again, this time for Puerto Rico.

“It was clear deception on his part and [he] left us hanging,” Diaz said.

“When Romero left the Philippines, we just took it as it was: we saw it coming. However, I believe it would be an injustice to claim that Romero has already apologized to my husband.”

Until recently, the Meralco organization had largely remained silent regarding the controversy surrounding its former import.

The only public comment addressing the situation came from Trillo during an appearance on the Power & Play podcast hosted by Noli Eala, where he suggested that Romero had already expressed remorse.

That claim, Diaz said, was the reason she felt compelled to speak up.

“This is me speaking up this one time to set the record straight,” Diaz wrote.

“This is me protecting my husband. This is me speaking the truth on his behalf, and that’s all we can do.”

The situation gained renewed attention after Meralco officially replaced Romero with Marvin Jones as the team’s reinforcement for the Commissioner’s Cup, closing one chapter of the controversy while leaving questions about the unresolved dispute lingering.

  • Oink Oink Oink Slot Review on OKBet: Features, Jackpots, and How to Win

Oink Oink Oink Slot Review on OKBet: Features, Jackpots, and How to Win

Developed by Playtech, Oink Oink Oink is a colorful online slot that combines playful piggy bank characters with feature-packed gameplay. Instead of a typical farm setting, the game unfolds inside a neon-lit vault filled with golden pigs, coins, and exciting jackpot opportunities.

Available on OKBet, the slot runs on a 5×3 reel grid and starts with 243 ways to win in the base game. However, the real excitement comes from its expanding reel mechanics, where paylines can grow to as many as 3,125 ways during special bonus rounds.

The game centers around three special coin symbols that unlock different bonus features, making each spin unpredictable and potentially rewarding.

With a Return to Player (RTP) of 95.91% and high volatility, Oink Oink Oink is designed for players who enjoy chasing big payouts through bonus features rather than frequent small wins.

Bet sizes range from $0.10 up to $500 per spin, and the slot offers a maximum win of up to 2,000× your total bet.

    Betting System and Gameplay Basics

Oink Oink Oink follows a straightforward slot structure, but several mechanics increase the chances of bigger payouts once bonus features activate.

The base game uses a 5-reel, 3-row grid, creating 243 winning combinations. During certain features, the grid expands to increase potential winning ways.

    The gameplay process is simple:

    1. Choose your preferred bet amount between $0.10 and $500.

    2. Press Spin to start the reels.

    3. Land matching symbols from left to right to form winning combinations.

    4. Watch for Red, Green, or Blue Coin symbols, which trigger the game’s special bonus features.

Because most of the big wins come from bonus rounds, players often aim to trigger these coin-based features during gameplay.

    Symbols and Standard Payouts

The slot features a mix of treasure-themed symbols along with traditional card icons.

    Higher-paying symbols include:

    • Vault symbol – The highest-paying icon

    • Gold bars – High-value payout

    • Money bag – Medium payout symbol

    • Wallet – Mid-tier payout

    Lower-value symbols include:

    • A, K, Q, J, and 10

These symbols appear more frequently and help generate smaller wins while players wait for bonus features to activate.

Red Coin Feature – Jackpot Pick

The Red Coin feature activates the Jackpot Pick bonus round, where players get a chance to win one of the slot’s fixed jackpots.

    When triggered:

    • Players select golden pig icons on the screen.

    • The objective is to reveal three matching jackpot prizes.

    Possible jackpots include:

    • Mini Jackpot – 20× your bet

    • Minor Jackpot – 50× your bet

    • Major Jackpot – 200× your bet

    • Grand Jackpot – 2,000× your bet

This feature adds a fast-paced pick-and-win mechanic that can quickly turn a spin into a massive payout.

Green Coin Feature – Free Spins

The Green Coin feature triggers the Free Spins bonus round, which greatly increases the number of winning possibilities.

    During this round:

    • Players receive 6 to 10 free spins.

    • The reel grid expands to 5×4 or 5×5.

    • Winning ways increase from 243 to 1,024 or even 3,125.

Additional Green Coin symbols that land during the round award extra free spins, allowing the bonus feature to continue and potentially build larger payouts.

This is often considered the most exciting feature in the game because of the increased reel size and expanded paylines.

Blue Coin Feature – Prize Wheel

    • Instant prizes range from 5× to 120× your bet.

In some cases, the wheel may also grant direct entry into another bonus round, such as the Free Spins or Jackpot Pick feature.

  • Willie Miller confident Mikey Williams will regain form with Converge despite slow start

Willie Miller confident Mikey Williams will regain form with Converge despite slow start

Patience will be key for Converge as it integrates Mikey Williams into its backcourt rotation for the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Deputy coach Willie Miller admitted that the Filipino-American guard is still working his way back into peak condition, but he remains confident that the former TNT star will rediscover the form that once made him one of the league’s most feared scorers.

Williams only recently returned to the Philippines after spending time in the United States, and while he has already joined the FiberXers in practice, Miller said there are still a few adjustments needed before the explosive guard reaches full rhythm.

“Yung shooting niya andun pa rin. Hindi pa rin nawala,” noted the two-time MVP.

“Tingin ko yung timing lang talaga ang kulang pa sa kanya.”

Miller, who is responsible for overseeing Converge’s guards, made it clear that getting Williams back into game-ready shape is now part of his responsibilities with the team.

“Sa mga guard ako ang assigned. Sa big men, si DI (Danny Ildefonso) diyan,” said the former Letran standout, referring to fellow assistant coach Danny Ildefonso.

    “Ikukundisyon natin yan,” he added.

Williams arrived in the country last week and wasted little time reconnecting with his new squad, attending practice just a day or two after landing.

The prolific guard joined Converge through a blockbuster trade last year that sent Jordan Heading to TNT, ending Williams’ previous chapter with the Tropang Giga where he played a major role in winning two PBA championships.

Although he has been away from competitive basketball in the league, Miller shared that Williams stayed active while in the US.

“Nagpapa-kundisyon naman siya sa US. Madalas din daw siyang maglaro sa mga pick up games. Minsan may mga former NBA players pa siyang nakakalaro,” Miller shared.

“Pero siyempre, iba pa rin talaga yung competitive games.”

Beyond Williams’ individual preparation, Converge also faces another challenge — blending a roster packed with talent.

The FiberXers feature a star-studded lineup that includes Williams, Juan Gomez De Liano, Alec Stockton, Kurt Reyson, MJ Garcia, Archie Concepcion, Calvin Abueva, Justine Baltazar, Justin Arana, and Jonnel Policarpio, along with towering 7-foot import Kylor Kelley.

For Miller, the key will be building chemistry so the team can maximize its depth without sacrificing offensive flow.

“Sabi nga ni Gov (coach Delta Pineda) good problem yan. In time, pag nakuha na yung chemistry ng team, tingin ko hindi naman yan magiging problema,” he said.

Miller pointed out that powerhouse teams like San Miguel Beer, TNT, and Barangay Ginebra have managed to succeed despite having multiple stars sharing the floor.

If the FiberXers can find that same balance, Converge may soon become one of the most dangerous teams in the conference.
