    At the Playtime Filoil Centre, the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference tightened even further Tuesday night as Creamline Cool Smashers and Choco Mucho Flying Titans delivered statements in contrasting but equally telling fashion.

     

    Creamline, wary of a brewing upset, slammed the door on Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, refusing to let momentum slip twice in the same night.

     

    The 10-time champions were reminded early that Galeries Tower would not simply fold. After cruising through the opening set, the Cool Smashers were stunned in the second as the Highrisers flipped the rhythm and forced extended rallies that took Creamline out of sync. But what followed in the fourth set was the clearest reflection of championship composure — a blistering 12-1 start that left no room for another surprise.

     

    Veteran steadiness proved decisive.

     

    Tots Carlos once again anchored the attack with 19 points and 13 digs, while Bernadeth Pons and Jema Galanza combined for 27 markers and relentless floor coverage. Pangs Panaga imposed herself in the middle with 11 points, including two timely blocks, and Jia de Guzman orchestrated the offense with 22 excellent sets that kept Creamline’s hitters in rhythm when the match threatened to tilt.

     

    Galeries Tower had its moments. Deloria and Asis provided consistent scoring, and the Highrisers trimmed a third-set deficit to just two at one point. But every push was met by a veteran response, including a crucial four-point run capped by a Panaga block that restored order.

     

    Creamline secured its fourth win and stayed firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish — a reminder that while challengers are rising, the champions remain difficult to unseat.

    The Flying Titans outlasted Nxled Chameleons, 27-25, 28-26, 16-25, 25-19, in a match that swung wildly before settling in their favor.

     

    It was a personal milestone for Eya Laure, who faced older sister EJ for the first time in league play. When the fourth set tightened, Eya delivered six of Choco Mucho’s final nine points in a decisive 16-4 closing tear that silenced Nxled’s comeback hopes.

     

    Sisi Rondina powered the charge with 24 points and 20 receptions, absorbing pressure in long exchanges and answering every late surge. Laure added 13 attack points, most coming in the pivotal fourth frame, while Kat Tolentino chipped in 15 markers. Deanna Wong dished out 23 excellent sets and Thang Ponce anchored the floor defense with 21 digs.

     

    “Sobrang happy ako sa naging performance ng team namin kasi ito naman talaga ‘yung hinahanap namin sa kanila kung paano talaga dapat maglaro,” said Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin.

     

    The first two sets alone foreshadowed the drama. Choco Mucho squandered multiple set points in the opener before regaining composure, then survived another tense exchange in Set 2 that featured clutch hits, miscues, and momentum swings at the net. Nxled’s third-set explosion — a stunning 16-5 run after trailing early — briefly flipped the script and exposed cracks in the Flying Titans’ rhythm.

     

    But unlike in past outings, Choco Mucho steadied itself.

     

    For Nxled, the loss deepened a troubling slide. After opening the conference with three straight wins, the Chameleons have now dropped three in a row. Brooke Van Sickle’s 20-point, 18-reception effort and MJ Phillips’ steady production went unrewarded as late-game execution once again proved costly.

     

    With Creamline tightening its grip near the top and Choco Mucho climbing back to .500 at 3-3 alongside Nxled and Capital1, the middle of the standings is turning into a battleground.

    Parity has arrived early in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball. With the first round gaining intensity, the UAAP Season 88 women’s tournament has produced a three-way deadlock at 2-2 between the UST Golden Tigresses, FEU Lady Tamaraws, and Adamson Lady Falcons. 


    With every set now carrying added weight, the race toward the Final Four is beginning to take shape far earlier than expected.

     

    UST’s path back to relevance has been swift. After stumbling with two straight losses to open the campaign, the Golden Tigresses recalibrated and found their rhythm. 

     

    Their latest statement came in dominant fashion with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 dismantling of the UE Lady Warriors last Saturday.

     

    Angge Poyos provided steady production with 11 points and three digs, while Jonna Perdido delivered an impactful return. After missing last season due to a knee injury, Perdido tallied 10 points built on five attacks, three aces, and two blocks, while adding six digs and four receptions.

     

    But UST’s climb will face immediate resistance. On March 7, they square off against Adamson in a pivotal showdown that guarantees one team will rise to 3-2 while the other slips behind the pack.

    Meanwhile, Adamson Lady Falcons enter the matchup seeking stability. The Lady Falcons were unable to sustain their momentum in a four-set loss to FEU, 22-25, 30-28, 25-17, 25-20, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Sunday. The defeat dropped them into the same 2-2 cluster they now share with their rivals.

     

    Shaina Nitura did everything she could to tilt the match in Adamson’s favor, exploding 22 points, 13 digs, and 33 excellent receptions. Her all-around effort kept the Falcons competitive, but FEU’s late-match execution proved steadier.

     

    For FEU, the victory marked a timely return to form. Faida Bakanke powered the Lady Tamaraws with 22 points anchored on 17 attacks and five blocks, while Aly Devosora added 18 markers. 

    The Morayta squad’s balanced scoring and defensive grit allowed them to close strong and join the standings at 2-2.

     

    Their momentum will be tested again on Wednesday when FEU faces the Ateneo Lady Eagles. Another win would push them to 3-2 and potentially out of the gridlock and a loss would drop them into negative territory in an already crowded race.

    For the Akari Chargers, that spark has come in the form of Fifi Sharma. The 5-foot-11 middle blocker has transformed into the Chargers’ emotional engine in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, turning hustle plays and net defense into statements. 


    After a rocky four-game slide to open the season, Akari needed more than adjustments — it needed fire and Sharma supplied it.

     

    In a gripping five-set victory over the Cignal Super Spikers, 25-23, 20-25, 11-25, 25-23, 15-12, Sharma delivered 16 points built on 11 attacks and five crucial blocks. 

     

    The win not only snapped lingering doubts but also knocked off the former league leaders, restoring belief inside the Akari camp. But Sharma’s impact goes beyond the stat sheet.

     

    “Yes, super yes for me, especially kasi yun yung nakakapag-contribute, like yung energy ko sa loob ng court. Yun kasi yung nagbibigay sa akin ng purpose to play for my teammates kasi ayoko silang naaapi or ayoko silang — basta, ganun ako. Ako na lang yung mag-step up. Sige, bigay niyo na sa akin ’to, ako na yung magra—‘rawr.’ I love that!” Sharma said. 

     

    When rallies stretch and pressure mounts, Sharma has embraced the responsibility of stepping forward, not waiting for someone else to seize control.

    For the former De La Salle University standout, the victory represented more than a tally in the win column.

     

    “This game talaga. I feel like monumental sa team, especially to get our momentum going, kasi nga we had a very bad start. So ngayon yung chance namin para magkaroon ng magandang momentum, and I feel like that’s my motivation playing for my teammates and contribute as much as I can to get the win,” said Sharma, the 24-year-old middle blocker.

    Head coach Tina Salak sees the bigger picture. The comeback win highlighted not just skill, but composure.

     

    “Magandang start yung makikita mo sila in a body language na… Yun nga, sabi nila competitive and energized sila, not because of other people, because kailangan din namin makuha yun,” Salak said. 

     

    That balance between emotion and discipline may define Akari’s trajectory moving forward. The Chargers now prepare for another high-voltage encounter against the Capital1 Solar Spikers at the FilOil Centre on Saturday.

    Just ask Creamline Cool Smashers, after stumbling early, the perennial contenders have rediscovered their rhythm, stacking three straight wins to reassert themselves in the thick of the All-Filipino Conference semifinal chase. Their offense has flowed cleaner, their defense has stiffened, and the aura that once made them the league’s standard bearer has quietly returned.

     

    But Tuesday offers no guarantees. Across the net stands Galeries Tower Highrisers — a team that has made unpredictability its calling card. Win, loss, win, loss — through five games, the Highrisers have refused to settle into a pattern. That volatility makes them dangerous, especially in a tournament where momentum shifts faster than the scoreboard can keep up.

     

    Creamline enters the 6:30 p.m. duel as the slight favorite, a status earned after emphatic responses to adversity. Following a straight-sets defeat to PLDT High Speed Hitters, the Cool Smashers bounced back with statement wins over Choco Mucho Flying Titans and ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in four sets, then flexed their depth in a sweep of Capital1 Solar Spikers.

     

    Yet labels mean little in this conference, Galeries Tower nearly carved out consecutive victories before letting a 2-1 set edge slip away against Choco Mucho in a five-set heartbreaker. 

     

    The Highrisers have shown they can ride the hot hands of Erika Deloria, Jean Asis and Gayle Pascual, while Aiza Pontillas and Roselle Baliton steady the floor and setter Julia Coronel orchestrates the offense. Their issue hasn’t been talent — it has been finishing.

     

    Creamline, by contrast, has leaned into its depth. Tots Carlos continues to be a reliable scoring outlet, Jema Galanza and Bernadette Pons bring balance on the wings, and the middle duo of Pangs Panaga and Bea de Leon fortify the net.     In a race this tight, the margin between contender and casualty might come down to a single service error, a single block touch — or a single lapse in focus.

    After weeks away due to a viral infection, veteran head coach Jerry Yee returned to the bench for the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, bringing with him a sense of steadiness the team has sorely missed.


    Yee had stepped aside after the Thunderbelles’ opening game to focus on his health. Missing four matches while undergoing medical evaluation. 

     

    Though some procedures were initially considered, the diagnosis turned out to be less severe than feared.

     

    “Yes naman. Okay naman since the discharge. Buti, hindi na kailangan ang mga procedures. It’s a viral infection pala, so ayun,” Yee shared, relieved as he reflected on the ordeal.

     

    His return came against powerhouse PLDT High Speed Hitters, the reigning champions in the PVL. The Thunderbelles showed flashes of fight, pushing the favorites to tight 23-25 losses in the first two sets before fading in the third, 13-25. 

     

    The result underscored both their potential and the work still ahead. But Yee’s impact extends beyond the professional court. 

     

    Even while recovering, he remained immersed in volleyball, attending College of Saint Benilde’s recent NCAA loss to Letran. For a coach known for his development-driven philosophy, staying connected to the grassroots and collegiate game is part of the larger mission.

     

    The Thunderbelles’ early 1-5 record tells only part of the story. The absence of rookie middle blocker AC Miner is a crucial piece during their run to the Reinforced Conference finals — has forced constant lineup recalibrations. With several new faces in the rotation, chemistry remains a work in progress.

    “We’re trying to get everybody back. Pati ‘yung game, ‘yung pattern. Recovering,” Yee explained.


    “Malaking bagay yung mga nawala sa amin na players, pero ‘yan ang line-up natin. Maraming bago, so we’re trying to incorporate everybody into the rotation, kung anong rotation that will work for us. And yes, me, kababalik-balik ko lang din sa practice.”

     

    The adjustment period mirrors Yee’s own return — measured, deliberate, and rooted in patience.

    The UAAP women’s volleyball tournament delivered more than just wins and losses over the weekend, it revealed separation at the top, resilience in the middle, and urgency at the bottom.

     

    UST Golden Tigresses wasted little time asserting control last Saturday after dismantling the UE Lady Warriors in straight sets, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

     

    It was a clinical display that reinforced UST’s growing rhythm this season. Angge Poyos and Jonna Perdido  chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Steering a balanced attack that never allowed UE to find its footing. 

     

    While, on the other end, Khy Cepada’s nine-point effort was not enough to lift the Lady Warriors, who slipped to 0-4 and remained anchored at the bottom of the standings.

     

    If Saturday’s opener was decisive, the second match was unforgettable. The UP Fighting Maroons staged one of the season’s most stirring reversals, erasing a two-set deficit to topple defending champions NU Lady Bulldogs, 16-25, 16-25, 25-22, 31-29, 18-16.

     

    Still reeling from a previous loss to DLSU Lady Archers, UP showed resolve when it mattered most. Nina Ytang, Casiey Dongallo, and Jelai Gajero fueled a comeback from 9-13 in the deciding set, saving three match points in a dramatic fifth-frame finish.

     

    NU’s bid to stay unbeaten was complicated by the absence of rookie standout Sam Cantada in the fourth and fifth sets after sustaining a minor lower-leg injury late in the third. Cantada had already delivered 10 points built on four aces, three attacks, and three blocks, alongside seven excellent digs.

     

    UP seized the opening, first dominating the third set before clawing back from a 21-24 deficit in the fourth, a shift that ultimately handed NU its first loss of the season.

    On Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the DLSU Lady Spikers tightened their grip on first place with a four-set win over the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17.

     

    Even without ace Shevana Laput due to illness, DLSU absorbed its first dropped set of the season without losing control of the match. 

     

    Middle blocker Lilay del Castillo erupted for a career-best 18 points highlighted by eight blocks, while Angel Canino and Amie Provido poured in 21 and 17 markers, respectively.

     

    Ateneo, now 0-4, continued to search for a breakthrough despite strong outings from Anna Hermosura (18 points) and JLo Delos Santos (15).

     

    The weekend concluded with the FEU Lady Tamaraws restoring balance to their season by defeating the Adamson Lady Falcons, 22-25, 30-28, 25-17, 25-20.

     

    FEU’s win established a three-way tie with UST and Adamson at 2-2, compressing the middle of the standings and setting up a volatile race for positioning.

     

    Though Adamson narrowly edged FEU in spikes, 60-59, the Lady Tamaraws ruled the net with an advantage in blocks. Faida Bakanke led the charge with 22 points, including five rejections, while Jaz Ellarina added 11 markers.

     

    While Adamson leaned heavily on Nitrua, who produced 24 points and anchored the floor defense with 31 excellent receptions and 15 digs. But FEU’s defensive wall proved decisive, punctuated by Alyzza Devosora’s crosscourt kill that sealed the pivotal extended second set.

     

    By the end of the weekend, the UAAP landscape looked markedly different. DLSU stands alone at the top. NU has been reminded it is vulnerable. UP has reintroduced itself as a threat. UST continues to surge. FEU and Adamson are locked in the scramble. Meanwhile, UE and Ateneo are still searching for their first breakthrough.

The 6-foot-1 opposite hitter delivered back-to-back 20-point performances to lift the Chargers to two crucial victories, stabilizing a campaign that risked slipping early.

    For powering Akari’s breakthrough stretch, Lacsina earned unanimous selection as the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week presented by Pilipinas Live for the period of February 24 to 28.

     

    The former National University standout began her surge with a dominant showing against sister team Nxled Chameleons at the Filoil EcoOil Centre. She produced 20 points—all from attacks—alongside 10 receptions in a four-set victory that finally put the Chargers in the win column.

     

    More importantly, it marked a shift in rhythm for Akari. Lacsina’s consistency gave the team a reliable scoring option while also strengthening its defensive structure in the backcourt.

     

    She followed it up with another statement performance against the Cignal HD Spikers, delivering 20 points built on 16 kills, three blocks, and an ace, plus 11 excellent receptions in a dramatic five-set triumph. The match highlighted her evolving role—not just as a scorer, but as one of the team’s emotional stabilizers during pressure stretches.

    “Mas kumapit lang ako sa kasama ko talaga, and team effort to eh. Parang ‘yun talaga, ayaw ko masayang yung pinapaguran ng teammates ko ng coaches ko, so wala nang rason para hindi ilaban,” said Lacsina.

    “Sa akin naman po ’yung naging mindset ko talaga, hindi lang bilang ate, kundi bilang leader din,” Lacsina said.

     

    “Tapos na kami sa era na si ate Grethcel lang yung ate namin. Gusto namin lahat kami mag-step up. At siyempre, nakakataas din ng confidence ’yung result ng game.”

    In a grueling five-set battle against the Farm Fresh Foxies, Belen delivered 23 points built on 20 attacks and three blocks, while also anchoring the floor with 12 digs and 19 receptions. More importantly, she struck the decisive point in the closing stretch of the fifth set to seal Capital1’s third win of the conference after a marathon two-hour, 28-minute contest.

     

    Her latest outing reinforced a growing pattern: Belen is no longer producing isolated scoring explosions—she is delivering sustained offensive output regardless of opponent or match situation.

     

    That consistency has been tested repeatedly. Just days earlier, the Solar Spikers absorbed a reality check at the hands of the defending powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers, who leaned on balanced scoring from veterans Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons to complete a straight-sets victory.

    The Capital1 Solar Spikers continued their climb up the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference standings with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Farm Fresh Foxies at the FilOil Center on Thursday, February 26. The match, which ended 26-24, 20-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-11, showcased a blend of star power, resilience, and the emergence of a surprise hero in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

     

    While UAAP standout and team centerpiece Bella Belen once again dominated the scoreboard, tallying 23 points in her sixth consecutive 20-plus performance, the win was a team effort, with several key contributors stepping up at critical moments.

     

    Outside of Belen, the Solar Spikers saw impressive contributions from Shaya Adorador, who recorded 14 points, and both Pauline Gaston and Cherry Nunag, who added eight points apiece. However, the most remarkable story of the night came from Sydney Niegos, who erupted for a career-high 20 points, including clutch plays during the deciding fifth set.

    Niegos’ performance carried added weight, given her journey over the offseason. After the team decided not to renew her contract, she spent weeks grappling with disappointment and a sense of uncertainty about her volleyball career. At one point, she even began a new role outside of sports, enrolling as an enforcer with the Land Transportation Office, before receiving a second chance from head coach Jorge Souza De Brito.

     

    “When I got removed from the team, I was really down. For a whole month, I didn’t even look at volleyball or step on the court. I didn’t play at all. I got accepted to be an enforcer at the Land Transportation Office. I was already in the seminar when I got a call from Jorge Souza De Brito,” Niegos said during the post-match press conference.

     

    The former Jose Rizal University standout did not hesitate to return. “It’s different when the coach calls you; it means he believes in you. I didn’t want to waste the opportunity. You know how it is in volleyball — only a few make it to the pros. So I grabbed it.”

    Niegos’ redemption arc was on full display as she helped Capital1 overcome Farm Fresh, a team the Solar Spikers had never beaten in their two-year history. “I just want to prove to the coach that bringing me back wasn’t a mistake. I want to help Bella and contribute to the team. I just want to give my all so we can win, especially against Farm Fresh. We have been together for two years and had never beaten them until now, so I’m really proud that we finally did,” she said.

     

    Coach De Brito echoed his confidence in Niegos’ ability to continue producing on the court. “I’m really confident that she can deliver more than this and be more consistent. But for now, I’m happy because she trusts the process and also trusts her teammate,” he said.

     

    This victory sees Capital1 improve to a 3-3 record, moving up to sixth place in the All-Filipino Conference standings. While their record is balanced at the midpoint of the tournament, the team is beginning to hit its stride, blending Belen’s scoring dominance with Niegos’ renewed energy and the supporting cast’s timely contributions.

     

    The win also underscores Capital1’s ability to perform under pressure. Each set was fiercely contested, with multiple points decided by razor-thin margins. The Solar Spikers’ resilience, particularly in the decisive fifth set, demonstrates their capacity to withstand adversity and execute in high-stakes situations — a quality that could prove crucial as the conference progresses.
