While the New York Knicks continue to push closer to an NBA title, Filipino-American guard Jordan Clarkson has embraced a quieter but crucial role, staying ready for any moment no matter how limited the opportunity.
For Clarkson, the journey through the Finals has been defined less by minutes played and more by mindset maintained.
The Knicks are now just one win away from the championship after staging a stunning comeback in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, erasing a 29-point deficit to escape the San Antonio Spurs, 107-106, and seize control of the series.
After not seeing action in Game 2 and slipping out of coach Mike Brown’s primary rotation during stretches of the postseason, Clarkson responded in Game 3 with one of his more impactful outings of the series despite a 115-111 loss, showing his ability to step in when called upon.
In Game 4, his role was reduced again, logging just five minutes—but still managed to contribute two points, reinforcing the same approach he has carried throughout the playoffs.
“Just staying prepared for the moment. Staying my same routine work. It hasn’t changed for me. Staying locked in. You know it’s been the same thing everyday. For all of us. Just come here trying to make an impact when I get the opportunity, stay with it,” Clarkson said.

Even with fluctuating minutes, Clarkson said the experience of playing in the NBA Finals after 12 years in the league carries a different weight, one that demands mental consistency as much as physical readiness.
The physical tone of the series has also stood out, with both teams engaging in high-intensity, bruising battles that have shaped the Knicks’ approach moving forward.
“Our thing has been physicality all year, that’s something that next game we’re definitely focusing on. They all come in playing physical, but that’s the game we like to play and we ready,” he said.
Beyond the Finals stage, Clarkson also kept the door open for a future return to international duty with Gilas Pilipinas, continuing to express willingness to represent the country again when the opportunity arises.
“I mean hopefully I have the opportunity to do that, compete for the country, represent again but definitely right now just focus on the playoffs and finishing the whole year. But if I get the opportunity go do that, I definitely want to,“ he said.
As the Knicks head into Game 5 with a chance to close out the series, Clarkson remains locked into the same assignment he has carried all postseason and that is to be ready, steady, and impact the game whenever his number is called.
