    Even while battling gastroenteritis just a day before tip-off, Vanie Gandler refused to let illness sideline her. The 25-year-old outside spiker emerged as the driving force behind Cignal’s hard-earned 3-0 start in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, powering past a resilient Farm Fresh team at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

     

    “Right after practice yesterday, I went to the clinic to get meds,” Gandler shared. “My number one priority was to be able to eat so that I have enough energy today. I just took the meds, I rested, and thankfully I was able to play.”

     

    The Alas Pilipinas standout didn’t just play—she dominated. Gandler recorded 25 points on 24 attacks and one ace, while also contributing 14 excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions, completing a massive triple-double that underscored her all-around influence.

     

    “I just think of any way I can contribute to the team. So, if I’m in the front row, with scoring, and [when I’m in the] back row, defense. I don’t really think of the stats. It’s just where else I can help with the team to get this win,” Gandler said, demonstrating the selflessness that has become central to Cignal’s early success.

     

    The 5-foot-9 spiker has steadily been Cignal’s cornerstone, contributing 14 points in their victory over Galeries Tower and 16 against Choco Mucho, all while growing into a leader both on and off the court.

    “I’m really proud of my team because we work really hard and we really try our best to apply everything that’s taught to us. We still have many lapses, many things to work on, but I’m very happy with how we’re willing to learn and improve each training,” Gandler added.

     

    Her performance wasn’t just a personal triumph—it was a testament to the team’s growth, discipline, and unity. “I think it’s just the experiences that I’ve had and, of course, the environment that I have to always improve. My improvement is because of the help of my teammates, my coaches. So, yeah, I’m grateful for everything that they teach me and that my teammates give me confidence every time.”

     

    For Cignal, Gandler’s perseverance and versatility signal that the team is not just winning—they are building the foundation of a confident, resilient squad capable of challenging for the title.

    If the All-Filipino Conference was searching for early proof that reputation alone won’t carry teams, Tuesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena delivered it—twice. One match was about restoring order. The other was about surviving chaos.

     

    Creamline, bruised from an opening-day stumble, played like a champion unwilling to entertain doubt. Choco Mucho, meanwhile, showed fight and flair but once again learned how thin the margin is against a team built for closing moments.

     

    From the opening serve, the Cool Smashers didn’t overwhelm so much as absorb. The first set unfolded in jagged bursts—blocks, quick attacks, defensive scrambles—until Creamline leaned on composure to escape, 27-25. When Choco Mucho punched back hard in the second, leveling the match with authority, the arena sensed the familiar tension that has long defined this rivalry.

     

    That tension broke in the third. Creamline tightened the screws defensively, controlled tempo, and reclaimed momentum. By the fourth set, with Eya Laure sidelined, the Cool Smashers shifted fully into execution mode—efficient, disciplined, and unapologetically clinical—to close out a 27-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-15 rebound win in just under two hours.

     

    Bernadette Pons embodied that reset. Her triple-double—19 points, 18 excellent receptions, and 13 digs—was less about volume than reliability. After a quiet opener, Pangs Panaga (12 points) and Jema Galanza (11) rediscovered rhythm, while Tots Carlos matched Galanza’s output. Jia De Guzman, steady as ever, stitched it all together with eight points, three kill blocks, and 20 excellent sets—leadership expressed in choices, not noise.

     

    Choco Mucho showed plenty of promise. Laure’s 19 points came before she was forced out, Rondina battled to 15, and Lorraine Pecaña added 10. But when rallies stretched and decisions sharpened, Creamline once again owned the moment—improving to 1-1 while handing the Flying Titans a second straight loss.

    Earlier in the evening, composure took a different shape.

     

    Cignal didn’t dominate Farm Fresh; it endured them.

     

    What unfolded was a two-hour, 10-minute test of patience and nerve, with the Super Spikers escaping 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 30-28 to claim solo possession of first place. Leads vanished, deficits loomed, and set points came and went—but Cignal never blinked.

     

    Down five in the second set, they clawed back. After dropping the third, they stood firm in a fourth-set marathon, saving two set points and trading blows deep into extra points before finally breaking through.

     

    Vanie Gandler was the axis. Her 25-point outburst came with 17 excellent digs and 15 receptions—an all-around performance that earned Best Player of the Game and defined Cignal’s refusal to fold. Erika Santos chipped in 15, many at the most volatile junctures, while Gel Cayuna’s 19 excellent sets and timely 1-2 plays kept Farm Fresh perpetually off-balance.

     

    The Foxies were left with another near-miss. Trisha Tubu’s 19 points led the charge, Ces Molina had 18, and Royse Tubino added 14. Statistically, Farm Fresh matched Cignal blow for blow. Practically, the difference came down to errors—29 free points conceded, including the final two that sealed their fate.

     

    Two matches, two messages.

     

    Creamline reminded everyone why championships aren’t surrendered easily. Cignal showed that grit, not flash, can anchor an early run. And in a conference already punishing complacency, both wins felt heavier than a single mark in the standings.

    PLDT wasted no time reminding everyone of its growing mastery over Creamline, delivering a confident 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 sweep Thursday at the Playtime Filoil Centre. What once felt like an occasional upset has now turned into a pattern, as the High Speed Hitters stretched their unbeaten run against the league’s most decorated franchise to five straight games—an astonishing streak that has lasted 811 days.

     

    At the heart of it all was Savi Davison, who looked every bit like the reigning MVP. She detonated early, pouring in 13 points in the opening set alone to immediately seize control of the match. Creamline tried to counter with experience and pedigree, but PLDT’s pace and precision never wavered.

     

    Even the long-awaited return of Creamline’s championship core—Jia de Guzman, Bernadeth Pons, Jema Galanza, and Dij Rodriguez—failed to disrupt PLDT’s rhythm. The High Speed Hitters, nearly intact from last year’s title run save for Seth Rodriguez filling in for Dell Palomata, played with the cohesion of a team that never stopped building.

     

    Davison finished with a conference-first triple-double, tallying 26 points, 11 digs, and 10 receptions, while Kianna Dy, Jovy Prado, and the rest of PLDT’s supporting cast ensured the offense stayed balanced and relentless.

     

    Creamline, meanwhile, showed flashes of its old self but lacked its usual bite. Pons shined in her return with 13 points and a double-digit presence on defense, while Tots Carlos added 11. De Guzman’s 12 excellent sets marked her first PVL action in 922 days, yet Creamline’s biggest guns—Alyssa Valdez, Galanza, and Michele Gumabao—were largely neutralized.

     

    If PLDT asserted dominance through familiarity, Cignal showcased the value of sharp preparation.

    The HD Spikers outlasted Choco Mucho, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 25-18, in a physical four-set encounter that tested composure more than firepower. After briefly losing control in the second set, Cignal leaned into longer rallies and cleaner execution to slowly wear down the Flying Titans, becoming the first team to reach two wins this conference.

     

    Erika Santos continued her strong run from the preseason, leading Cignal with 18 points built on efficiency across attacks, blocks, and service aces. Vanie Gandler provided steady two-way production, while setter Gel Cayuna orchestrated the offense with 23 excellent sets that kept Choco Mucho guessing.

     

    At the net, Jackie Acuña proved decisive, piling up four kill blocks among her 13 points to halt Choco Mucho’s momentum at critical junctures.

     

    The Flying Titans didn’t go quietly. Newly formed star partners Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure delivered emphatic double-doubles, with Rondina posting a game-high 20 points and Laure contributing across every phase of play. Still, the inability to sustain pressure in the closing sets proved costly, handing Choco Mucho its first loss after a promising start.

     

    As the All-Filipino Conference unfolds, PLDT and Cignal have done more than just win—they’ve drawn early lines in the sand, signaling that the road to the title will demand not just talent, but cohesion, patience, and execution under pressure.

    Tin Tiamzon makes immediate impact as Cignal opens PVL campaign strong

    Sometimes, a comeback doesn’t need time to warm up.

     

    Tin Tiamzon wasted little time showing why Cignal took a chance on her, delivering a statement performance in the Super Spikers’ opening match of the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference. 

     

    Her all-around brilliance powered Cignal to a dominant straight-sets win over Galeries Tower, 25-17, 25-14, 25-11, on Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

     

    Fresh off a return from retirement last year, Tiamzon played with the urgency of someone eager to justify renewed belief. The Filipino-Canadian spiker tallied 18 points, built on six service aces, 10 attacks, and two blocks, setting the tone early and never letting Galeries find its footing.

     

    “I think I really just want to perform for the team. I want to give back to the coaches and the management for the investment they made and the risk they took in bringing me back from retirement,” said Tiamzon in Filipino. 

     

    “Over the past year, especially in 2025, I’ve learned so much from coach, and I just want to repay all the trust and investment the team has given me.”

    Cignal’s dominance went beyond one player. While many teams entered the conference reshuffled, the Super Spikers leaned on continuity—and it showed. Alas Pilipinas standout Vanie Gandler added 14 points, while PVL on Tour MVP Erika Santos chipped in 13, keeping the pressure constant from first serve to final point.

     

    For head coach Shaq Delos Santos, the performance reflected work done long before opening day.

     

    “I think one big factor is the investment we made during the offseason. One of our advantages was our training camp in Japan,” said Delos Santos.

     

    “To be honest, we saw that it really helped our movement, and we’re going to keep working to improve that even more. Especially since our upcoming games will be more intense, and of course, everyone will be preparing really hard.”

     

    The victory also marked a rough return for Galeries Tower coach Aying Esteban, whose squad struggled to keep pace with Cignal’s tempo and execution. Erika Deloria led the Highrisers with 10 points, while veteran Aiza Maizo-Pointillas was held to five.

     

    With confidence high, Cignal now sets its sights on a tougher test against Choco Mucho on Thursday at the same venue. Galeries, meanwhile, will regroup during a week-long break before facing ZUS Coffee next Saturday.

     

    For now, though, opening night belonged to Tiamzon—proof that sometimes, the biggest risks deliver the quickest rewards.
