    The Play-In stage opens not as a continuation of the standings, but as a reset—one where reputations are tested, not protected. Six teams step into a format that strips away comfort and demands immediacy, where every rally can tilt the fate of an entire campaign.

     

    In this environment, there is no room for what came before.

     

    Recent wins, like those secured by the Capital1 Solar Spikers and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, offer no guarantees. If anything, they serve as reminders of how thin the margins are. Capital1 needed to fend off a determined push from the Galeries Tower Highrisers, while Choco Mucho handled the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in four sets—but both results came in matches where momentum could have easily swung the other way.

     

    That uncertainty now becomes the defining theme. Capital1 continues to draw strength from Bella Belen, whose scoring touch has returned at the right time.     “Well, of course they will study us and we have to do the same. And since the game is really on Tuesday, the first part is study and rest. But you know they have a lot of potential to be explored on the other side. 

     

    So we’re gonna see what we can counter attack. But for sure, it’s time to go,” said Capital1 head coach Jorge Souza de Brito after the Solar Spikers subdued the Highrisers last Saturday.

    For teams emerging from the Play-In, the path is undeniably harder, but it also forges something different. They arrive battle-tested, sharpened by pressure, and accustomed to playing with everything on the line.

    Two outright semifinal spots now hang in the balance as the quartet prepares for a pair of knockout clashes on Thursday, with PLDT facing Farm Fresh and Cignal set to run it back against Creamline.

     

    Creamline booked the final ticket in dramatic fashion, surviving an undermanned lineup and a relentless challenge from Cignal in a gripping five-set duel, 25-19, 25-20, 15-25, 26-28, 16-14, before a packed crowd at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

     

    In a deciding set that saw momentum swing wildly, the Cool Smashers leaned on composure and experience. Bea De Leon delivered the decisive moment, denying Jewel Encarnacion at the net to end a nerve-wracking contest and push Creamline into the next phase as the No. 3 seed.

     

    A key factor in Creamline’s late surge was Alyssa Valdez, whose impact went beyond numbers and into momentum-shifting performances. When given extended playing time, Valdez delivered 14 points in one outing and followed it up with a 21-point performance anchored by 13 excellent receptions and digs. Her all-around brilliance powered Creamline to back-to-back wins to close the preliminaries, ultimately earning her PVL Player of the Week honors and helping secure their spot in the qualifying round.

     

    That result sets up an immediate rematch, with Creamline facing No. 2 Cignal once more—this time with a semifinal berth on the line.

    If Creamline’s entry was defined by grit, Farm Fresh’s was built on authority. What had been expected as a tight, down-to-the-wire clash for a Top Four berth instead turned into a statement performance, as the Foxies dismantled the streaking Akari Power Chargers, 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, at the same venue.

    Those runs were not built on easy wins either. PLDT took down heavyweight contenders such as Creamline, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, and Farm Fresh along the way—victories that ultimately defined their push for the No. 1 ranking heading into the qualifying round.

     

    While the spotlight now shifts to the quarterfinalists, the battle continues for those left behind. Nxled finished fifth and Akari sixth, sending both teams to the Play-In stage along with the rest of the lower-ranked squads. The Chameleons will headline Group I with the Capital1 Solar Spikers and the Galeries Tower Highrisers, while Akari joins Choco Mucho and the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in Group II.

     

    From there, the path only gets tougher, with the Play-In winners still needing to defeat the losers of the qualifying round matches to complete the Final Four.

     

    For now, however, the focus is set on four teams with everything still within reach. By the end of the week, only two will move forward—but all four have already shown why they belong.

    The Chameleons enter the match clinging to their Top 4 hopes after snapping a four-game losing streak with a four-set victory over the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles. That win, highlighted by a 20-point outing from Brooke Van Sickle, also saw Nxled rediscover its defensive rhythm, an area that had faltered during its mid-conference slide.

     

    Prior to that breakthrough, Nxled endured a rough stretch that included a tough loss to powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers, where they showed flashes of competitiveness but struggled to close out sets against elite teams.

     

    That inconsistency has defined Nxled’s campaign—opening with three straight wins after a major roster revamp, only to stumble just as the race for the Top 4 intensified. Now at 4-4, the Chameleons must win and hope results elsewhere fall their way to avoid slipping into the Play-In stage.

     

    For Van Sickle, however, the focus remains on steady progress rather than the standings.

    “We just came off a win, let’s celebrate it. But next we got PLDT and they’re doing a fantastic job. So we have to prepare much better. And, you know, I think it was good that we broke the losing streak,” she said.

     

    “So now I think, again, steps in the right direction, building confidence as a team. And, yeah, just continue to keep making day by day,” she added.

    Across the net, PLDT presents a team peaking at exactly the right time. The High Speed Hitters have surged to a 7-1 record, winning four straight matches since a shutout loss to the Cignal HD Spikers.     Capital1 became the latest team to slide into the next phase following a crucial sequence of results in Sta. Rosa, where victories by Akari Chargers and Farm Fresh Foxies tightened the standings and effectively pushed the Solar Spikers out of Top Four contention. 

     

    Sitting at 3-5, Capital1 showed flashes of promise early in the conference but struggled to sustain momentum against the league’s top contenders.

     

    Their campaign opened with a strong four-set win over ZUS Coffee, highlighted by a breakout showing from their young core, but the team soon ran into consistency issues. Losses to Nxled Chameleons, PLDT High Speed Hitters, and powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers exposed gaps in execution, particularly in closing sets and maintaining scoring balance.

     

    Galeries Tower, meanwhile, saw its campaign unravel after an encouraging early stretch. The Highrisers pulled off a notable upset against Nxled and even snapped a long losing skid with a gritty win over ZUS Coffee, signaling a potential turnaround.

    The Cool Smashers were on track to secure their place early, but a four-set loss to the red-hot Akari Chargers disrupted that trajectory and dropped them to 5-2. That result not only halted their momentum but also tightened a race that now features multiple teams still in contention for the last two berths in the next phase.

     

    With the PLDT High Speed Hitters and Cignal HD Spikers already safely through, the remaining slots have become the focus of a tense scramble involving Creamline, Akari, the Nxled Chameleons, and Farm Fresh.

Should they falter in their final assignments, including a looming match against Cignal, they risk being dragged into a tiebreak scenario that could ultimately determine who advances and who is forced into a more difficult route.

    The country’s biggest volleyball stars are preparing for a night that will celebrate the sport’s growing popularity and the players who continue to elevate it.

     

     

    On May 1, the Volleyball All-Star Showcase will bring together the top talents from the Premier Volleyball League and Spikers’ Turf at the Candon City Arena, creating a rare stage where the sport’s elite gather not for standings, but for spectacle.

     

    The event highlights both the women’s and men’s professional leagues, with the PVL All-Star Game pitting Team Heart against Team Hustle, while the Spikers’ Turf All-Star Game features Team Power battling Team Passion.

     

    Each team will be composed of 14 players drawn from across the leagues, blending the sport’s most recognizable names with the season’s statistical standouts.

     

    Fans will play a direct role in shaping the All-Star starting lineups through a public voting process. Supporters can select seven starters per team — two outside hitters, one opposite hitter, two middle blockers, one setter, and one libero — from a pool of candidates identified through statistical rankings and position.

     

    Voting officially opened Sunday, March 15 and will run until April 11 through the league’s website at https://pvl.ph/allstar.

     

    The final starting units will reflect a combination of fan support and coaching input, though coaches will not be permitted to vote for players from their own teams, a safeguard designed to balance popularity with competitive fairness.

     

    Beyond the fan-voted starters, the remaining seven roster spots per team will be determined through a broader selection process involving head coaches, players, team managers, and several league bodies, including the PVL Control Committee, referee and technical committee, broadcast panel and production staff, as well as members of the PVL and Press Corps.

    Coaching assignments for the All-Star squads will also reward teams performing well in the current season. The head coaches will come from the top two teams at the end of the preliminary rounds of the ongoing Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference and the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference, with those coaches selecting their own assistants for the event.

     

    To keep the games competitive while giving every player time on the court, the showcase will follow special lineup rules.

     

    The fan-selected starters will begin the match and remain on the floor until the 16th point of the opening set. The reserve players will then take over to start the second set, ensuring the full roster gets involved early.

     

    In the third set, the starters will return and play until the eighth point before coaches are allowed to make open substitutions, giving all 14 players an opportunity to contribute.

     

    Beyond the All-Star matches themselves, the showcase will also feature several skill competitions designed to highlight individual talents across the rosters. Among the featured events are the Setter Challenge, Digging Challenge, and Serving Challenge, with participants drawn from the selected All-Stars.

    Momentum may finally be starting to build for the Akari Power Chargers.


    After pulling off a statement win over the Creamline Cool Smashers, Akari’s players believe the team’s confidence and chemistry are beginning to take shape in the 9th Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

     

    The Power Chargers stunned the Cool Smashers in four sets, 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 25-21, Thursday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, snapping Creamline’s five-match winning streak and tightening the race in the standings.

     

    At the center of the victory was libero Justine Jazareno, who turned in a defensive masterclass with 22 excellent digs to frustrate Creamline’s attackers and keep Akari alive in long rallies.

     

    But for Jazareno, the bigger takeaway from the win wasn’t just the numbers—it was the gradual growth she sees within the team.

     

    “Yung kumpiyansa ng team nag bbuild up pa, so every training pinag-tatrabaho namin and mabuild connection namin,” she said.

     

    The win lifted Akari to a 4-3 record, giving the Power Chargers their fourth straight victory since starting the conference with four-straight losses and keeping them in contention for a stronger position heading into the next phase of the tournament.

    Offensively, Ivy Lacsina paced Akari with 20 points built on 18 attacks and an ace, providing the scoring punch whenever the team needed a spark.

     

    Christine Joy Soyud added 15 points, while veteran wing spiker Grethcel Soltones chipped in 14 to give the Chargers multiple scoring options.

     

    Middle blockers Celine Domingo and Mereophe Sharma also provided timely support with seven points apiece.

     

    Despite the breakthrough win against one of the league’s powerhouse teams, Jazareno emphasized that the Chargers are far from satisfied.

     

    With another tough opponent looming, she said the team must quickly refocus.

     

    “Back to the drawing board ulit, di madali kalaban ang Galeries, we have to work hard,” Jazareno said, referring to their upcoming clash with the Galeries Tower Highrisers.

     

    For Akari, the win over Creamline may have delivered a confidence boost, but the Chargers know the real challenge is sustaining that progress as the conference intensifies.

    The relief inside the Premier Volleyball League court was unmistakable for the Nxled Chameleons—not just because they won, but because of everything they endured before getting there.

     

    After a frustrating stretch that saw the team drop four straight matches, Nxled finally rediscovered its rhythm on Thursday night, rallying past the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in four sets, 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-19, to keep its chances of securing an outright qualifying-round berth in the 2026 conference alive.

     

    For team captain Brooke Van Sickle, the victory represented more than just a mark in the standings—it was proof that the Chameleons’ belief in each other never wavered even during the toughest stretch of their campaign.

     

    “Yeah, I mean, the four-straight loss, I mean, it wasn’t, you know, it wasn’t, you know, happy times,” said the three-time PVL MVP, who led the charge with 20 points while also contributing 10 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.

     

    “But we’re able to stick together. And I’m really proud of all the girls. It’s not just me, but I feel like as a team, cohesively, we all, like, understand what we need to do and what we need to get done,” she added.

     

    The skid could have easily fractured the team’s confidence, but instead it forced the Chameleons to lean on each other even more. Van Sickle believes that stretch ultimately strengthened the group rather than breaking it.

    “And we continue to push each other in the gym and stay together. I think that’s something super important for teams, like, going through losing streaks, is to be able to stay together,” said Van Sickle.

     

    “Because going through tough times, it’s easy to be able to point fingers or be able just to be like, oh, well, it’s not going our way, and kind of just, like, roll over. But we’re really glad with this team that no matter what, we always come out and we’re like, okay, new day, let’s go. Let’s keep a positive attitude. Let’s keep trying to improve, like, work,” she added.

     

    The adversity also tested Van Sickle in her role as team captain. Yet rather than carrying the burden alone, she saw something even more encouraging—players throughout the roster stepping up to hold themselves accountable.

     

    “So it makes my job a lot easier. But I think everyone is leading themselves very well and everyone’s helping out. So it’s not just like, you know, specifically like only a couple of people. It’s like, I think, cohesively all together,” said Van Sickle.

     

    For Nxled, the win may only be one step in a long conference campaign. But after weeks of frustration, it was also a reminder that the Chameleons’ greatest strength might not be their talent—but the way they stay together when things start going wrong.
