    As the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference heads into the semifinals, the race for individual honors is heating up. Among the frontrunners, Savannah Davison of the PLDT High Speed Hitters stands out not only for her scoring and spiking prowess but also for her team’s dominance. 

     

    Davison ranks third in total points with 185, and her spiking efficiency of 34.23% has powered the No. 1 team in the conference. Her combination of elite production and playoff relevance makes her the early favorite for Conference MVP.

     

    Right alongside her in the award conversation is Mhicaela Belen of Capital1 Solar Spikers, who led the league in total points with 218. While her team’s early elimination in the play-in round weakens her MVP chances, Belen’s statistical dominance cannot be ignored. 

     

    Her high-volume scoring and consistent output put her in contention for positional honors, particularly Best Outside Spiker, where production and impact matter most.

     

    Cherry Ann Rondina of Choco Mucho Flying Titans rounds out the early frontrunners in the outside spiker category. Rondina tallied 178 points, ranking fourth in total scoring, and contributed significantly in serving and reception efficiency. 

     

    Despite her team bowing out early, Rondina’s all-around stats ensure she remains a strong candidate for positional awards.

     

    Cignal Super Spikers, the conference’s second-best team, also injects star power into the mix with Vanessa “Vanie” Gandler and Erika Santos. Gandler ranks sixth in scoring with 166 points, seventh in spiking efficiency at 31.60%, and sixth in reception efficiency, anchoring Cignal’s two-way game. 

     

    Meanwhile, Santos has delivered 139 total points, ranked third in spiking efficiency at 35.53%, and contributed with 124 attacks, showing she can be counted on in both front- and back-row situations.

     

    Their combined performance has propelled Cignal to the top tier of the conference highlighted by a combined 46-point effort to push their team past Creamline in the early qualifying round, making both players serious contenders for Best Outside Spiker and even MVP consideration should their team reach the finals.

     

    In the middle blocker category, Mary Joy Baron of PLDT and Jeannette Panaga of Creamline remain the leading choices. Baron’s defensive presence and blocking average of 0.79 per set anchor PLDT’s front line, while Panaga balances blocking and serving, providing one of the most versatile middle blocker résumés in the league. 

     

    Meanwhile, Trisha Tubu of Farm Fresh Foxies continues to dominate as Best Opposite Spiker with 189 total points, a league-leading spiking efficiency of 40.99%, and 0.71 blocks per set.

     

    Setter honors appear to be heading toward Jia De Guzman of Creamline, whose 5.44 excellent sets per set top the league, though Kim Fajardo of PLDT could mount a late challenge if her team’s strong finish continues. 

     

    The libero race is still led by Tonnie Rose Ponce of Choco Mucho, with 4.71 digs per set, but Alyssa Eroa of ZUS Coffee is close behind with elite back-row efficiency at 43.37%, making this category one of the most open.

     

    As the semifinals unfold, voters will weigh not just raw statistics but team success and playoff relevance.     Gel Cayuna proved once again why she is one of the most reliable floor generals in Philippine volleyball, guiding the Cignal Super Spikers past the Creamline Cool Smashers and into the semifinals of the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference. 

     

    Her blend of steady playmaking and scoring aggression turned what could have been a tense matchup into a showcase of poise and leadership, reminding fans why the veteran setter continues to command respect in the league.

     

    The pivotal moment came in a five-set thriller against the defending champions at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where Cayuna delivered 34 excellent sets and 11 points to fuel Cignal’s 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 17-15 win. 

     

    Facing off against the Cool Smashers’ celebrated setter Jia Morado-De Guzman, Cayuna didn’t just keep pace—she dictated the tempo, orchestrating her team’s offense while also contributing crucial points at key moments. The performance earned her the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award for March 24 to 28, a nod to her ability to rise when it matters most.

Ano ba ‘yung gusto nating gawin para manalo, which is ‘yung mga binitawan nila sa amin doon sa huddle namin,” he said. 

     

    The veteran setter’s leadership allowed the team to channel past frustrations and come back stronger, scoring a statement win over the squad that had previously defeated them in a five-set clash during the preliminary round.

     

    Delos Santos also pointed to the growth of the Cignal core as a key factor in their success. “I think may factor siya [mga hirap na pinagdaanan ng team] plus siguro ‘yung core rin nung team, kung paano sila nag-grow and nag-improve, kung paano nila ginugusto ‘yung ginagawa nila, plus ‘yung binibigay namin na mga skills, at mga situational, kung ano kailangang maramdaman, kung ano ‘yung kailangang gawin,” he said. 

     

    The combination of tactical execution and mental toughness, anchored by Cayuna’s leadership, gave the Super Spikers the edge in high-pressure situations, ultimately propelling them into the semifinals.

     

    With a couple of weeks to prepare before the Final Four begins on April 11 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Cayuna and Cignal now shift focus to the next challenge. Instead, Vanie Gandler turned those painful memories into motivation and helped power Cignal to a breakthrough 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 17-15 victory to clinch a semifinal berth in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

     

    It was more than just a win. For a team that had endured too many close losses in crucial moments, it felt like a release.

     

    Cignal had already experienced this exact kind of heartbreak before, especially against Creamline. Just five days earlier, the Super Spikers had dropped another painful five-set match to the Cool Smashers to close the preliminaries, making Thursday’s rematch feel even heavier.

     

    That recent loss, along with others before it, stayed with Vanie Gandler heading into the match.

    “We know how painful it is to lose our crucial games. We’ve been through it so many times,” she said during the post-game press conference.

     

    “So, I think that’s what we all always hold in our hearts, and we use that as our motivation to really fight with one another.”

     

    That mindset showed when the match began to tighten. Even as Creamline made its expected late push, Cignal stayed composed and refused to unravel in another high-pressure finish.

    At the center of that steadiness was Gandler, who once again showed that her value goes far beyond scoring. She finished with 22 points, 28 excellent receptions, and 13 digs, delivering one of her most complete performances of the conference.

    PLDT’s march into the semifinals wasn’t just about securing a crucial win, it became a defining chapter in Kim Kianna Dy’s steady return to form.

     

    After dropping the opening set, the High Speed Hitters regrouped and imposed their rhythm to claim an 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22 victory over Farm Fresh at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Thursday. 

     

    Dy delivered 19 points built on 17 attacks, a block, and six excellent digs, providing crucial support to Savi Davison’s 22-point output. 

     

    More than the numbers, however, it was her presence in key stretches that helped PLDT stabilize after a shaky start and maintain control through the final sets.

     

    “I guess it’s me just getting used to playing again and matagal na rin ‘yung injury ko, so na-build up ko rin ‘yung confidence ko coming into this tournament,” the 30-year-old outside hitter said.

     

    For Dy, the journey back hasn’t been simple. A patellar tendon tear in her right knee previously disrupted her rhythm during her stint with F2 Logistics and even in her early run with PLDT. But instead of rushing the process, she leaned into preparation, both on and off the court.

     

    “For me personally, I think we had a longer preparation before coming into this tournament. And, not just court-wise, but also physically. Basically, I couldn’t stop rehabbing my knee, so that’s one thing that really helped me,” said the former DLSU standout.

    Now, that patience is paying off. Dy has gradually transformed into a dependable option again, especially in high-pressure situations like their clash with Farm Fresh. 

     

    Her composure and timing have begun to mirror the form that once made her one of the league’s most consistent contributors. Still, she credits her progress to the people around her as much as to her own effort.

     

    “I guess yung support sa team, coaches, and yung supporters namin. ‘Di sila… They didn’t give up on me,” Dy said. 

     

    With the victory, PLDT becomes the first team to lock in a semifinal berth along with the Cignal Super Spikers. 

     

    Meanwhile, Farm Fresh remains in the hunt and will look to keep its campaign alive against the winner of the play-in match between Nxled and Galeries Tower.

     

    As PLDT moves forward, Dy’s resurgence may prove just as important as their place in the standings—a reminder that sometimes, the biggest wins are the ones that signal a player is truly back.

    On a night where every point carried added weight, PLDT and Cignal proved they were the teams best equipped to handle the pressure. With outright semifinal berths at stake in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference, both contenders found different ways to survive and advance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Thursday.

     

    By the end of the doubleheader, the playoff picture had changed significantly. PLDT and Cignal earned direct passage into the round-robin semifinals, while Creamline and Farm Fresh were pushed into the more dangerous play-in stage, where there is far less room for error.

     

    PLDT booked the first semifinal seat after recovering from a sluggish opening to defeat Farm Fresh in four sets, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22. The High Speed Hitters looked vulnerable early, struggling to match the Foxies’ sharp execution and energy in the first set, but gradually imposed their rhythm as the match wore on.

     

    The second set proved to be the turning point. Farm Fresh stayed aggressive and nearly carried its momentum into a 2-0 lead, but PLDT held firm just long enough to escape with a narrow 25-23 win. That frame not only leveled the match but also shifted the emotional balance of the contest in PLDT’s favor.

     

    From there, the top-seeded High Speed Hitters began to resemble the team that topped the preliminaries. The third set became their most dominant stretch of the match, highlighted by a stunning 16-3 run that transformed a 9-12 deficit into a commanding 25-15 set win and a 2-1 lead.

     

    That burst was a reflection of PLDT at its best — disciplined, composed, and relentless once its system fully clicks. The High Speed Hitters carried that control into the fourth set, where they slowly separated from Farm Fresh and built what appeared to be a comfortable 23-17 advantage.

     

    But the Foxies refused to let the match end quietly. Behind the efforts of Ces Molina and Trisha Tubu, Farm Fresh launched a late 5-1 rally that cut the deficit to 22-24, putting PLDT under pressure one final time and briefly opening the door for another dramatic turn.

     

    That made Savannah Davison’s response all the more important. After committing back-to-back errors that helped fuel Farm Fresh’s late push, Davison bounced back and delivered the finishing play that finally sealed the victory after one hour and 48 minutes.

     

    Davison led PLDT with 22 points on 17 attacks and five kill blocks, while also contributing 11 excellent receptions in a performance that showcased her all-around value. Kianna Dy added 19 points, while Majoy Baron and Alleiah Malaluan also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

     

    PLDT’s balance was just as evident in the supporting departments. Kim Fajardo expertly ran the offense with 28 excellent sets and two points, while Kath Arado once again anchored the floor with a defensive masterclass of 27 excellent receptions, 18 excellent digs, and a point of her own.

     

    For Farm Fresh, the loss was disappointing but hardly discouraging. The Foxies showed enough fight and quality to remind everyone that their rise this conference has not been accidental. They pushed the top seed into difficult moments and stayed dangerous all the way to the closing stretch.

     

    Trisha Tubu carried much of that fight, finishing with a game-high 25 points on 22 attacks and three blocks. Ces Molina backed her up with a 14-point, 11-dig double-double, while Royse Tubino contributed 10 points and 16 excellent receptions in another solid outing.

     

    With the defeat, Farm Fresh drops to the play-in round, where it will face either Nxled or Galeries Tower for another chance to make the semifinals. It is a tougher road, but one the Foxies have already shown they are capable of navigating.

    If PLDT’s win was about reestablishing control, Cignal’s triumph over Creamline was about surviving a storm. In the nightcap, the Super Spikers outlasted the Cool Smashers in a gripping five-set showdown, 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 17-15, to claim the second outright semifinal berth.

     

    The victory carried extra meaning for Cignal. Just five days after suffering a heartbreaking five-set loss to Creamline to close the preliminaries, the Super Spikers returned to the same matchup with unfinished business and found a way to finally settle it.

     

    Cignal looked in command after taking the first set, but Creamline’s championship poise soon took over. The Cool Smashers recovered to win the next two sets and appeared poised to complete yet another comeback, forcing the Super Spikers into a difficult position late in the match.

     

    This time, though, Cignal did not fold. The Super Spikers regrouped in the fourth set, rediscovered their rhythm, and pushed the match into a decider that became the longest — and perhaps most dramatic — contest of the conference so far at two hours and 30 minutes.

     

    At the center of that turnaround was Gel Cayuna, who masterfully orchestrated Cignal’s attack with 35 excellent sets while also scoring 11 points. Her steady play gave the Super Spikers much-needed control during the match’s most chaotic stretches.

     

    She was joined by two equally vital scorers. Erika Santos rediscovered her offensive rhythm and erupted for a game-high 26 points, while Vanie Gandler delivered a monster triple-double effort of 22 points, 28 excellent receptions, and 13 excellent digs in one of the conference’s most complete individual performances.

     

    Still, Creamline nearly found a way to steal the match in the end. Faced with two match points, the Cool Smashers leaned on the same grit and composure that built their dynasty, clawing back behind Tots Carlos and forcing the deciding set into a tense deadlock at 15-all.

     

    The closing stretch became a test of nerve more than execution, with both teams trading pressure-packed points and refusing to blink. But in the end, it was Cignal that managed to stay cleaner in the biggest moments.

     

    A Jeanette Panaga service error gave the Super Spikers a crucial edge, and on the next sequence, Alyssa Valdez’s attack was ruled out after Creamline challenged for a possible block touch. The review upheld the call, handing Cignal the dramatic victory and a long-awaited return to the semifinals.

     

    Creamline’s defeat was especially painful because several of its stars still produced strong performances. Bernadeth Pons, returning from a two-game absence, led the team with 20 points, while Valdez once again delivered across multiple fronts with 18 points, 19 excellent digs, and 20 excellent receptions.

     

    Panaga added 14 points, while Carlos and Bea De Leon chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively. But despite the depth of those contributions, the Cool Smashers ultimately came up just short in the kind of match that often turns on one or two late mistakes.

     

    Now, the path forward is much clearer — and much harsher for some. PLDT and Cignal move on with the luxury of direct semifinal entry, while Creamline and Farm Fresh must now survive the uncertainty of the play-in round to keep their title hopes alive.

     

    Thursday’s results did more than fill two semifinal spots. They also drew a sharp line between the teams that created breathing room for themselves and the ones now forced to keep fighting just to stay in the race.

    With the preliminary phase now in the books and the league moving into the play-in and qualifying rounds, attention shifts to the standings—where the PLDT High Speed Hitters and the Cignal Super Spikers have emerged as the top two teams in the preliminary round.

    Capital1 Solar Spikers star player Bella Belen emphasized the urgency of tightening their overall performance as they prepare for a high-stakes play-in showdown in the PVL All-Filipino Conference against the Galeries Tower Highrisers.


    With Capital1 holding an even 4-5 record for eighth place and Galeries Tower trailing at 2-7 in ninth, the upcoming clash carries significant weight for both squads. 

     

    The Solar Spikers find themselves in a must-win situation, and Belen made it clear that refining their execution will be key to extending their campaign.

     

    “Siguro yung mindset lang namin is, ayun nga, must win na eh. So kung gusto namin makaabot ng series, kailangan mas puliduin pa namin yung galaw namin,” Belen, the former UAAP MVP said.

     

    “And we all know naman na Galleries ulit yung kalaban namin. So siguro titignan namin kung ano yung pinerform namin this game. And then, ayun, mag-training kami tomorrow, tingnan namin kung ano pa yung pwede namin ma-improve para mas magpadali yung game namin on Tuesday against them,” she added.

     

    Belen pointed to one of the team’s recurring struggles—falling behind early in matches—as a major concern that needs immediate correction. 

     

    In their previous outing, slow starts allowed opponents to dictate the tempo, forcing Capital1 to play catch-up for most of the game.

     

    “Siguro huwag yung nagpapauna kami ng ilang points. So siguro yun yung kailangan namin ma-improve, lalo na yung side-out game namin na kailangan… makakuha agad kami ng point. Ang baga, point by point lagi,” the 23-year-old outside hitter of Capital1 said.

    As the conference’s current top scorer with 218 total points, Belen has consistently delivered on offense, but she acknowledged that individual production alone won’t be enough.
