Alex Eala lands dream partnership with Venus Williams as grass-court swing opens new chapter

Just when it seemed her grass-court season had already received a major boost, Alex Eala found herself stepping into an even bigger spotlight.

Fresh from earning a singles wild card for the Bad Homburg Open, the Filipina tennis star is now set to share the court with one of the sport’s most iconic figures after reports emerged that she will partner former world No. 1 and seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams in the doubles competition.

For Eala, the partnership represents another remarkable milestone in a year filled with breakthrough moments. Rather than facing one of the legends she grew up watching, the 20-year-old will now compete alongside her.

The pairing also creates an intriguing full-circle moment.

Earlier this year at the ASB Classic in Auckland, Eala found herself on the opposite side of the net from Williams. Teaming up with Iva Jovic, the Filipina helped eliminate the veteran American and her partner Elina Svitolina in straight sets, 7-6(7), 6-1.

Months later, Eala and Williams will be wearing the same colors.

The Bad Homburg tournament, a prestigious WTA 500 grass-court event that begins on June 21, serves as one of the final tune-ups before Wimbledon, making the partnership an opportunity for Eala to gain valuable experience on one of tennis’ most demanding surfaces.

While attention is already building around her upcoming collaboration with Williams, Eala’s immediate focus remains in Birmingham.

The Filipina ace is currently competing in the WTA 125 Birmingham Open, where she has joined forces with Czech player Nikola Bartunkova. The duo is scheduled to take on second-seeded British pair Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden in the doubles draw.

After a difficult clay-court stretch that ended with an early exit at Roland Garros, Eala now enters the grass season with fresh opportunities, renewed momentum, and perhaps the most high-profile doubles partner of her young career.

For a player continuing to establish herself on the world stage, sharing a court with Venus Williams may be another sign that Eala’s rise is opening doors few Filipino tennis players have ever experienced.
