Alex Eala will get another opportunity to strengthen her Wimbledon campaign after securing a main-draw wild card for the Berlin Tennis Open following her second-round exit at the HSBC Championships.
Tournament organizers announced Thursday that the Filipina tennis star will compete in the WTA 500 event in Berlin from June 15 to 21, giving her a crucial chance to earn ranking points ahead of the year’s third Grand Slam.
The wild card comes just days after Eala’s grass-court winning streak came to an end at Queen’s Club.
The 21-year-old bowed out in the second round after a straight-set defeat to World No. 19 Iva Jovic, 6-2, 6-2.
The loss snapped Eala’s six-match winning streak on grass, a run that included her title-winning campaign at the WTA 125 Birmingham Open.
Despite the setback, the Filipina remains on an upward trajectory heading into the busiest stretch of her grass-court season.
Berlin presents a significantly tougher challenge as Eala joins one of the strongest fields on the WTA calendar.

The tournament is expected to feature recent Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, and World No. 5 Amanda Anisimova.
For Eala, the tournament carries added importance beyond the quality of competition. Her performance in Berlin could play a key role in determining whether she secures a seeded position for Wimbledon, which runs from June 29 to July 12.
The Berlin Open also serves as the penultimate stop in Eala’s Wimbledon preparations.
She is also scheduled to compete at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, where she is reportedly set to team up with Venus Williams in doubles.
After falling short of a deep run at Queen’s Club, Eala now shifts her focus to Berlin, hoping to rediscover the form that recently delivered her first grass-court title and continue her rise on the WTA Tour.
