Alex Eala’s brief homecoming is over. After spending a week reconnecting with Filipino fans and fulfilling commitments following her career-defining Wimbledon campaign, the country’s top tennis star is back on the road with her sights firmly set on the final Grand Slam of the season.
The 20-year-old departed the Philippines this week to begin the North American hard-court swing, marking the next chapter of a breakthrough year that has elevated her into the sport’s elite.
With the US Open scheduled from late August to early September, Eala is now shifting her full attention from celebrations to competition.
The Philippine Tennis Association shared a video of Eala heading to the airport after a busy week filled with appearances at various brand and promotional events, capping off her first visit home since reaching the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships.
Her first assignment will be the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C., which runs from July 27 to Aug. 2.
The tournament features one of the strongest fields of the summer and will serve as Eala’s first competitive outing since her impressive Round of 16 finish at Wimbledon—a result that propelled her to a career-high world No. 28 ranking.

Eala will have a chance to test herself against several established stars in the singles draw, including Leylah Fernandez, Madison Keys, Marta Kostyuk, Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini, and Elina Svitolina. Southeast Asian standout Janice Tjen is also set to compete in the tournament.
Beyond singles, Eala will once again team up with 14-time Grand Slam doubles champion Venus Williams.
The pair previously joined forces at the Bad Homburg Open, where they advanced to the quarterfinals, and will look to build on that promising partnership in Washington.
The North American swing will not end in the U.S. capital. Eala is also expected to compete in two prestigious WTA 1000 events—the National Bank Open in Toronto from Aug. 2 to 13 and the Cincinnati Open from Aug. 13 to 23—as she fine-tunes her game before the year’s final major.
The upcoming stretch represents another significant opportunity for Eala to continue climbing the WTA rankings.
Strong performances during the hard-court season could further improve her seeding for future Grand Slams while building on the momentum she created at Wimbledon, where she established herself as one of the tour’s rising stars.
With confidence at an all-time high and a challenging schedule ahead, Eala now turns her attention to proving that her breakthrough on grass was only the beginning of an even bigger season.
