    “We want to design this European League for success, it means that the partners who invest in this league will understand that any revenues that exceed expenses, will need to be reinvested in the enterprise and to grow the sport,” Silver said, noting that long-term sustainability—not short-term profit—will guide the league’s structure.

     

    He expanded on the cultural aspirations behind the project, pointing to the singular passion seen among European football supporters:

    “To even dream of creating this sort of relevance that these top European football clubs have, that’s something that we don’t necessarily experience in the US, the depth of the religious fervor of some of these clubs, the way that the traditions are passed down from generation to generation. It is something that I wish every American sports fan could experience,” he added.

     

    As part of the planning phase, Silver has initiated conversations with top European football organizations—many of which have diversified into multi-sport operations. Among them is French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, which already operates a successful handball program and has explored basketball expansion in the past. According to Silver, PSG is one of several clubs evaluating the opportunity.

     

    “They are certainly one of the clubs we have had conversations with. We have enormous respect for their operating capabilities. They are obviously operating at a premier level of competition. We know that they have the know-how to operate a basketball club at the highest level, should that be of interest to them. The direct answer is yes. They are an organization we have had discussions with,” Silver continued.

     

    The commissioner also signaled an unusually broad investment strategy for the league—broader even than what is permitted within the NBA’s existing ownership rules. Although sovereign wealth funds and private equity are restricted in the NBA, the European project will adopt a more flexible model in order to accelerate growth and infrastructure development.

     

    “We are talking to families that currently invest in sports, some who have not had the tradition of investing. In addition to talking to sovereign wealth funds, there are more traditional investment funds that have had some experience investing in sports, and then some just more traditional private equity funds that see sports as an asset class,” he concluded.

     

    If executed, the league could represent a transformative moment for international basketball. It would provide a unified NBA-FIBA framework for elite European clubs, potentially reshape player development pipelines, and strengthen the NBA’s influence in one of the world’s most talent-rich regions.     Filipino-American outside hitter Brooke Van Sickle has firmly established herself as one of the Premier Volleyball League’s (PVL) most dominant forces in recent years. Her explosive scoring, elite all-around skillset, and consistency with the Petro Gazz Angels have elevated her to the status of arguably the best player in the country today.

     

    Van Sickle played a pivotal role in Petro Gazz’s recent championship run, helping the Angels capture both the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference title and the 2025 Reinforced Conference crown.     “It was very sad to hear the news, actually. Coming off a championship last conference to having a leave of absence, it was heartbreaking but understandable. We are definitely keeping our spirits up and we’re just really grateful that the core decided to stick together and by no means were forced,” Van Sickle said.

    “I know there were a lot of allegations being said but we kind of all, as players, like have a common goal that we make sure that the core sticks together and you know, continue to build something special, especially with the Nxled group like we think we can do that. It was all part of the plan, I guess. Things happen, it’s uncomfortable and you just gotta be optimistic and still hungry,” she added.

     

    With Petro Gazz stepping away from competition, the league suddenly found itself with several sought-after free agents—and Nxled Chameleons acted swiftly.     “So far the practices have been super awesome, they’re very awesome. It’s just really awesome to be able to have an Italian coach and he has so much experience from around the world and to be able to bring that to the gym is awesome.

     

    “I feel like this is probably the most prepared I’m gonna be for a conference, personally, just because the amount of touches and just like the quality of practice is really good, especially all the girls are absolutely pushing each other in the gym so it’s really highly competitive so with that being said — yeah, our goal is to win,” Van Sickle concluded.

    Filipino Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) standout Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga is finally set to make his long-awaited debut for BRAVE Combat Federation, more than a year after signing a multi-bout contract with the Bahrain-based promotion.     Zamboanga initially inked his deal in 2025 and was scheduled to compete in May of that year against Ramazan Gitinow in a lightweight bout.     “I have been away long enough, and I am hungry to compete again. I signed with BRAVE CF to fight, and I want to maximize this contract. My body feels great now. The rehab was tough, but it worked. I am healthy, I am training at full intensity again, and I am starting to feel my groove come back every day,” Zamboanga said in a media interaction.

     

    Before joining BRAVE CF, Zamboanga built a formidable résumé in the Philippines’ premier MMA organization, the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC). Known for his explosive striking and relentless pressure, he captured the vacant bantamweight championship in 2017 by finishing countryman Rex De Lara via technical knockout. He cemented his status as one of URCC’s elite fighters two years later, successfully defending the title with a doctor’s stoppage victory against South Korea’s Seung Hyun Cho.

     

    With a professional record of 14 wins and 6 losses, including 11 finishes, Zamboanga has earned a reputation as a dynamic and dangerous competitor capable of ending fights in multiple ways. His new chapter in BRAVE CF represents not only an opportunity to compete internationally but also a chance to re-establish his presence in the global MMA scene.
