Kiel “Oheb” Soriano makes the leap from MLBB to Honor of Kings

In a move that has electrified the Philippine esports community, Kiel “Oheb” Soriano, one of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s most decorated gold laners has officially embarked on a bold new chapter.

After years of competitive success in MLBB, the former champion is now stepping into the vibrant universe of Honor of Kings (HOK), marking a significant shift in both his personal journey and the broader esports landscape.

Oheb’s transfer to Honor of Kings comes after months of speculation and an indefinite hiatus following his exit from Team Liquid PH. Throughout the Filipino gaming world, fans have eagerly awaited clues about his next move.

Those rumors have now been confirmed that the Filipino sniper has officially joined the HOK roster and will look to make his mark in Hero’s Gorge.

What makes this transition even more captivating is the unexpected reunion it has sparked. Oheb’s arrival at Honor of Kings reunites him with familiar names from his Blacklist International days, including Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna, Danerie “Wise” Del Rosario, and Renejay “RENEJAY” Barcarse.

This gathering of seasoned talent has sparked a wave of nostalgia, and fans are buzzing with excitement over possible collaborations and rivalries within HOK’s expanding competitive scene.

His MLBB legacy is one of consistent excellence being a part of Blacklist International’s formidable “Main Five,” he helped secure back‑to‑back championships in Seasons 7 and 8, later adding a third title in Season 10. In the M3 World Championship, he reached the pinnacle of international acclaim, earning Finals MVP honors and etching his name into esports history.

Oheb’s success continued under Team Liquid, where he joined forces with stars like Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno and Alston “Sanji” Pabico, claiming championship glory in Seasons 15 and 16 and securing his first MSC trophy in 2025.

But after Team Liquid’s M7 World Championship run, he announced his resignation and opted to take a step back from competitive play.

During his break, he stayed active in the scene, hinting at a possible return to professional play, including aspirations within the Philippine Kings League (PKL).

Oheb isn’t the first MLBB star to make the jump to Honor of Kings, his move follows fellow Filipino pros Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera, Renejay Barcase, and John Paul “H2WO” Salonga.

Their collective shifts underscore a growing trend in esports which is the blending of competitive ecosystems and the rise of Honor of Kings as a major destination for top talent seeking new arenas to dominate.

  • PBA rejects Rain or Shine request to overturn Jaylen Johnson’s suspension

PBA rejects Rain or Shine request to overturn Jaylen Johnson’s suspension

The PBA Commissioner’s Office has upheld disciplinary sanctions against Rain or Shine import Jaylen Johnson and TNT’s Glenn Khobutin, denying the Elasto Painters’ appeal on Monday regarding Johnson’s one‑game suspension stemming from a heated altercation last Friday.

The decision arrives as Rain or Shine prepares for a crucial matchup against the Meralco Bolts, where they’ll be without Johnson, a key contributor in their bid for a third straight win at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao had argued that the disciplinary committee should reconsider Johnson’s suspension on the basis that his actions were retaliatory.

It is a response, he contended, to Khobutin’s initial attack during the fracas that erupted six minutes into the fourth quarter.

Guiao’s appeal highlighted what he saw as an imbalance in how the situation was handled, especially considering that both players were involved.

Despite Guiao’s efforts, the Commissioner’s Office swiftly rejected the appeal within hours.

“We filed [an appeal] this afternoon. It was denied after three hours. Si kume [Willie Marcial] mismo tinanong ko, ‘Kung ikaw sapakin ko, hindi ka gaganti? Gaganti daw sya … sabi ko bakit si Jaylen hindi pwede gumanti?” Guiao said, questioning the consistency in how retaliation was judged.

OKBET is Asia’s most trusted and popular online sports gaming platform. Visit us on OKBET to stay up to date with all sports news from around the world.

Under league sanctions, Khobutin, 34, received a two‑game suspension and a ₱70,000 fine, while the 6‑foot‑9 Johnson was slapped with a one‑game ban and a ₱50,000 fine.

Both players were summoned to the PBA office on Saturday to present their accounts of the incident to Commissioner Willie Marcial, as part of standard protocol after on‑court altercations.

Marcial described both players as remorseful during their meeting, particularly Khobutin, who reportedly expressed regret over his actions as he detailed his perspective.

Johnson, meanwhile, had already apologized in postgame interviews and reiterated his apologies in subsequent statements, emphasizing that emotions ran high in the thick of competition.

The ruling not only impacts Rain or Shine’s rotation but also underscores the league’s strict stance on player conduct. With stakes rising as the PBA season unfolds, how teams adapt to disciplinary setbacks like this could prove pivotal in the race toward the playoffs.

  • NU Lady Bulldogs head coach under fire as fans demand Camilla Lamina return amid UAAP Season 88 struggles

NU Lady Bulldogs head coach under fire as fans demand Camilla Lamina return amid UAAP Season 88 struggles

As the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament continues, defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs are facing a more turbulent path than expected after a second‑round defeat to the FEU Lady Tamaraws.

The loss at the Smart Araneta Coliseum sparked a wave of frustration among Lady Bulldogs supporters, who loudly called for veteran setter Camilla Lamina to be given more playing time.

A viral video on social media captured fans inside the arena expressing their displeasure, chanting for Lamina’s insertion and leveling harsh remarks toward the coaching staff.

NU’s head coach, Regine Diego has drawn criticism from some sections of the fanbase for opting to keep Lamina on the bench in favor of sophomore Abegail Pono as the team’s starting setter.

The decision has been controversial given Lamina’s pedigree who is a two‑time UAAP Best Setter (Seasons 84 and 87) whose numbers have dipped to 1.68 average sets per game this season from 5.34 during their 2025 championship run.

Lamina, standing at 5‑foot‑7 has started just three of NU’s nine matches so far, managing double‑digit production only twice this year.

OKBET is Asia’s most trusted and popular online sports gaming platform. Visit us on OKBET to stay up to date with all sports news from around the world.

NU’s recent struggles are also a product of roster changes entering Season 88. The Lady Bulldogs, historically one of the UAAP’s most successful programs with five overall championships, have seen several core players graduate after a dominant stretch that included a back‑to‑back title in Season 87 and multiple finals appearances in recent years.

Adding fuel to the clamor, Lamina has battled minor injuries this season — including an index finger issue that occasionally limited her availability — which may have influenced the coaching staff’s cautious approach.

Rather than a simple benching, observers say the move could be aimed at managing her health and preserving her effectiveness throughout the grueling UAAP schedule.

Fans, however, remain unconvinced, insisting that NU needs Lamina’s championship experience now more than ever if they are to retain positioning near the top of the standings.

The Lady Bulldogs have shown flashes of resilience despite setbacks. After suffering earlier losses this season, supporters are still calling for clearer adjustments as NU prepares to face the Ateneo Lady Eagles on Saturday, March 28, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion, a crucial match that could shape their Final Four hopes.

  • Filipino runner Edsel Moral secures victory at the 2026 Da Nang Marathon in Vietnam

Filipino runner Edsel Moral secures victory at the 2026 Da Nang Marathon in Vietnam

Balancing long hours at work with the demands of elite training, Edsel Moral proved that discipline can translate into dominance, emerging as the top finisher in the Da Nang International Marathon on Sunday in Vietnam.

In a race that featured more than 1,500 runners in the full marathon, Moral separated himself not with bursts of speed, but with relentless consistency.

He crossed the finish line in 2:30:43, sustaining a steady 3:34 per kilometer pace across the demanding 42-kilometer course—an effort that reflected both discipline and control rather than sheer aggression.

At 29, Moral’s rise is no longer a surprise within running circles. His victory in Da Nang builds on a growing list of achievements, including his title run in the 2025 Trilogy Run Asia National Finals.

Known for his consistency and frequent podium finishes, he has quietly built a reputation as one of the Philippines’ most reliable long-distance competitors. Behind that success is a routine defined by perseverance, training after work, and pushing through fatigue in pursuit of improvement.

Yet the significance of the race extended beyond his individual triumph. The Philippines made its presence felt across the leaderboard, signaling depth in the country’s endurance scene.

Fellow Filipino Cronie Melliza, a student-athlete from the University of Santo Tomas, impressed in his marathon debut, finishing third with a time of 2:38:51.

While, Japan’s Tomoki Tezuka placed second in 2:36:19, while M.A. Alforque added to the national effort with a 10th-place finish at 2:57:26.

The performances drew praise from supporters, including Under Armour Philippines.

“We are incredibly proud of Edsel and Cronie,” said JP Regodon, senior marketing manager for the brand.

“Their success in Da Nang is a testament to the world-class caliber of our homegrown talent,” he added.

Since its launch in 2013, the Da Nang International Marathon has steadily grown into one of Vietnam’s premier running events. This year, nearly 9,000 participants joined across various race categories, reflecting the sport’s expanding reach in the region.

Beyond competition, the event also contributes significantly to the local economy, with reports estimating a $5.4 million boost for the host city.

More than just a race, the 2026 edition carried a deeper purpose. The marathon reinforced its role as a platform for community engagement—where every stride contributes not only to personal achievement but also to meaningful change.

  • Yeng Guiao questions PBA ban on Jaylen Johnson, warns of precedent in heated Rain or Shine-TNT clash

Yeng Guiao questions PBA ban on Jaylen Johnson, warns of precedent in heated Rain or Shine-TNT clash

The fiery encounter between Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and TNT Tropang Giga last Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum did more than ignite the crowd—it sparked debate over discipline in the league.

It erupted late in the fourth quarter when Rain or Shine import Jaylen Johnson and TNT’s Glenn Khobuntin came to blows under the basket, leading to swift league sanctions.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial handed Johnson a one-game suspension and a P50,000 fine, while Khobuntin, identified as the instigator, received a two-game ban and a P70,000 fine.

The ruling immediately drew criticism from Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao, who questioned the fairness and logic behind punishing his import for what he describes as self-defense.

“I question the fairness and the wisdom of the commissioner with this decision,” Guiao said a day after the sanctions were announced.

OKBET is Asia’s most trusted and popular online sports gaming platform. Visit us on OKBET to stay up to date with all sports news from around the world.

“Jaylen was punched first and he reacted in self defense, which is a totally rational human reaction. It was the officials’ incompetence and Khobuntin’s lost of temper that precipitated the incident. Jaylen was just reacting as a normal human being would, protect himself,” the 67-year-old veteran coach said.

The altercation unfolded in the final six minutes of the game as the two players wrestled for position.

Khobuntin reportedly landed an uppercut to Johnson’s jaw, prompting the import to retaliate with a straight right before officials intervened.

“It’s just too bad that it happened. Jaylen’s a good guy, but napikon siya dahil pinikon siya,” Guiao added, reflecting on the unfortunate chain of events.

Beyond defending his player, Guiao warned that suspending an import could set a troubling precedent in the league.

“In a conference of unlimited height, suspending an import is practically gifting the other team a victory. This means we could’ve lost two games just by an inconsequential player throwing a punch on our import. This is a precedent we should avoid as a league,” he said.

The coach added that Johnson’s absence could seriously impact the team’s chances, “The commissioner can suspend Khobuntin for two games or two years and it would not make a lot of difference for TNT.”

Despite the looming suspension, Johnson showcased his value on the court, putting up 33 points with nine rebounds and three assists, leading Rain or Shine to a narrow 112-109 victory over the Tropang 5G.

However, Rain or Shine faces a critical challenge as they prepare to confront the Meralco Bolts on March 27 at the same venue, now without the presence of their fiery import.

Guiao’s public questioning of the PBA’s disciplinary measures adds a new layer of tension to the league, highlighting the debate over how on-court retaliation and self-defense should be addressed in professional basketball.

  • EJ Obiena comes up short, places ninth at World Indoor Championships

EJ Obiena comes up short, places ninth at World Indoor Championships

EJ Obiena settled for a joint ninth-place finish in the men’s pole vault event of the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2026 in Torun, Poland, as the Filipino Olympian struggled to keep pace with a record-breaking field.

Obiena cleared 5.50 meters and 5.70 meters but failed to hurdle the 5.85-meter mark after three attempts, ending his campaign earlier than hoped. He shared ninth place with Christopher Nilsen, who posted the same result.

The event was dominated by Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, who delivered a flawless performance en route to a new championship record.

Duplantis cleared every height on his first attempt, needing just one try at 5.50m, 5.85m, 6.00m, 6.10m, 6.15m, and 6.25m before sealing the gold.

Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis took the silver medal after clearing 6.05 meters, while Australia’s Kurtis Marschall secured bronze with 6.00m.

Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen finished fourth with 5.95 meters, followed by the United States’ Zachery Bradford, also at 5.95 meters.

France’s Baptiste Thiery, the Netherlands’ Menno Vloon, and France’s Thibaut Collet all cleared 5.85 meters to round out the next group of finishers.

In the same competition, Norway’s Simen Guttormsen placed 11th with 5.70 meters, while Czechia’s David Holy ended at the bottom with 5.50 meters.

Meanwhile, fellow Filipino Olympian John Cabang Tolentino failed to advance in the men’s 60-meter hurdles after finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 7.77 seconds. His run was not enough to secure a semifinal berth in the 46-athlete field.

The event was later ruled by Poland’s Jakub Szymański, who clocked 7.40 seconds to top the competition on home soil.

Despite falling short of podium finishes, both Obiena and Cabang gained valuable exposure against the world’s top athletes in one of indoor athletics’ premier events.

For Obiena, the result marks a rare finish outside medal contention, but it also highlights the consistency he has built over the years as one of the sport’s elite vaulters.

  • Momentum shifts and statement wins define UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball weekend

Momentum shifts and statement wins define UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball weekend

The race for positioning in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball took on a sharper edge over the weekend, as contenders asserted themselves and redemption stories began to take shape midway through the second round.

Saturday action at the Smart Araneta Coliseum set the tone, with the UST Golden Tigresses showing composure after dropping the opening set against the Ateneo Lady Eagles. What followed was a dominant response, as UST tightened its grip on the match to secure a four-set victory and extend its winning streak to three.

The Tigresses leaned on the consistent firepower of MVP contender Angge Poyos and Reg Jurado, who combined for 20 points, while Jonna Perdido added 11 markers. Setter Cassie Carballo orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying 22 excellent sets along with two points of her own.

On the other side, Ateneo continued to search for rhythm. Rookie Ana Hermosura stood as the lone bright spot with 13 points, as support from Zel Tsunashima and Alex Montoro proved insufficient to halt the team’s slide in the standings.

Later in the day, the DLSU Lady Spikers once again demonstrated why they remain the team to beat. Despite a brief stumble, La Salle preserved its unbeaten run with a gritty four-set win over the Adamson Lady Falcons.

Canino delivered 21 points to anchor the Lady Spikers, with Amie Provido adding 18 and Laput contributing 10. Adamson, however, showed resilience behind Nitura’s 23-point outing, alongside support from Joy Aseo and playmaker Fhei Sagaysay, who dished out 30 excellent sets. Still, the Falcons slipped to a 4-4 record, settling in fifth place.

Sunday’s matches shifted the spotlight to both dominance and redemption. The UP Fighting Maroons wasted no time asserting control, sweeping the still-winless UE Lady Warriors in straight sets to solidify their standing.

But the day’s most compelling narrative belonged to the FEU Lady Tamaraws, who flipped the script against the defending champions, the NU Lady Bulldogs. After suffering a painful reverse sweep in their first-round meeting, FEU refused to let history repeat itself.

In a tense five-set battle, the Lady Tamaraws held their ground and displayed collective resolve, outlasting NU in a dramatic extended fifth set. This time, it was FEU that showed composure under pressure, proving that lessons from past defeats can fuel defining victories.

As the second round progresses, the weekend’s results highlight a shifting landscape—where streaks are built, redemption is earned, and every match carries greater weight in the race to the top.
